Bikes: TBL Onyx Pro(ss converted), Pake SS (starting to look kinda pimped)

It reads so completely surreal. I'm reading on CP24, ....this 'Toronto police Sgt. Tim Burrows' fellow is speaking in weird tongues. His quote's read like he's either trying REALLY hard to be impartial, or he's the man who lays the groundwork for The Rich and Powerful™ to skate charges. Most importantly though is finding out who the victim is.

Damn. His name was Al, he was a messenger.

2008 KHS Flite 100 - $500.00 (Used)
Fuji Fixed Gear ? - $350 (Used)

I could probably talk the price down on the KHS...it seems a little steep for a bike that retails for $750.00. The One Way looks a little heavy, but sells for $800 at most shops in the city. I have no idea about the fuji...I've written the seller to ask about the size.

Would love your thoughts on the three bikes.

Cheers!
I'd get the One Way; it has everything you need and it is very cheap.

The Fuji is a road frame that has been hacked-together and is not a track frame.

I took a dim view of Sgt. Burrows after he spoke out about the incident involving the pedestrian on Kennedy road; sent him an email asking him to substantiate some of his allusions, but he never replied. Thought I'd never hear of him again.

Michael Bryant. Hubris has got to be involved here along with all the usual issues.

Bloor St. I ride it every day between Sherbourne and Church. ON THE SIDEWALK. Take that and stuff it Sgt.

That's a good price on the One Way, and it has everything you need. You are right in thinking that it's a bit heavy, but most fixed bikes in this price bracket will be about equal once you add fenders, fat tires and a pump.

On another note, is anyone here using a Crumpler Mahboubar? I'm thinking of getting one to replace my little backpack from 4 years ago, but the price at the Crumpler store is a little bit high, especially after reading the thread in the main SS/FG forum where people were getting them for $40 US...

I've got a crumpler bag, I think it was called the beer back. It's awesome and I really like it. one thing to check for with the mahoubar is that some of the flap top bags don't have zippers they only have the flap, which I personally wouldn't be totally comfortable with. Like I said though, I really like my bag

The One Way looks like a solid bike. Can't complain about the price, too. I do like the geometry of the KHS Flite 100 a little better, though. Has anyone here taken one for a spin? What's a fair price for a 2008?

If I buy the One Way, I'll be changing the handlebars to bullhorns. I guess I'll need new brake levers, too. Does anyone know how much that swap would cost?

Cheers!

I just heard that another cyclist may have gone down just moments ago at McCaul and Orde (I have only a partial view of the intersection from my office window, can't tell what's going on there). I hope I've been given bad info about this.

Bikes: Old nakamura SS conversion

Listening to the witnesses on that CTV video .... sounds completely deliberate. He's going to be let off, no doubt. He should be charged with murder, manslaughter at the least. You don't drive a car and try to "knock" someone off without realizing what consequences may befall them.

from a few minutes ago, ... I think they are going to go the "I was terrified" route otherwise it's full on murder.
I can;t get out of my head the fact Bryant is a boxer, could a popped him off the car at any point. Also hands like iron.

Would a biker not let go at some point? Here's the kicker that chills me...... just a thought .... Mr. Power Player vs. Bike Messenger. Get in altercation, biker approaches car. blah blah yak yak. At what point does biker think it good to hang on as buddy floors the car. A bit I can see but that speed? He either froze in fear, or was held on by Bryant, who boxes and has a grip like iron. I can picture it, Mr Untouchable pulling an Al Capone routine on Bloor street and deliberately slams AL against the mailbox. I'm not saying this is how it happened BUT this chilling possibility occurred to me. Time will tell.

This whole thing is making me sick to my stomach.

Full name is "Al Sheppard", btw. Looks like "Darcy Allan Sheppard" on Facebook..? Picture doesn't look familiar to me, but sometimes it's hard to recognize a person you know from cycling when they're not all kitted up or whatnot.

Jeez that's messed up... I remember Al from a couple of events too - in fact, I saw and chatted to him Thursday morning last week on my ride to work. ****

Hope Bryant gets slammed for this, from the witness reports it sounds like a pretty messed up situation gone horribly bad.

RIP, Al.

Yes that's him on FB, that pic was on the CTV site. No charges yet as new witnesses keep coming forward.
Al was a daddy too, just for that extra bit of whatever. *feels more ill now*

Al was kind of an intense guy. Something probably happened and he grabbed on to the headrest, and then at that point you're stuck because who's going to let go of a speeding car and chose to hit the ground that fast

Witnesses say the tires squealed when the car left the lights, so he was haulin' ass right away.

I just tweeted the memorial deets. I'm going to try and make it out if I can get away from work.

Also going to try and make it back into town for this.

Glad to hear of actual charges, let's hope they stick. Mr Bryant being a former AG worries me that he'll snivel his way out of this.
