I just noticed that Soma makes a bar very similar to my weirdo bar that I found in the basement at Cavern last year.. http://www.somafab.com/arcbar.html

I think I'm gonna throw that back on if I do polo on Sunday. Probably easier than drops. :)

I'm doing it (I have yet to register though). 47/16 might be a bit steep, although I rode it at 46/16 last year. The downside of too low a gearing is the insane spin you can get if you're not careful (particularly on the first descent off the Gardiner north bound. As I recall, none of the hills were real mashers, just longish grades so you may need to stand up a bit with 47.

somnambulant 05-10-07 01:17 PM

I might hit High Park after dinner if anyone's interested in doing some laps.

I am. I'm doing the 75 km route 52X18. Thats the plan anyways. We will see if I can make the whole thing. Wish me luck and see you there.

I'm at 42/14 and will most likely stay there for the ride. Maybe go 42/15 if I can find the cog.

I noticed about a month ago that Bikes on Wheels in Kensington had pretty good deals on last year's lids. Bells (swoop?) Giro...

last time i did the ride for heart was on a 75" gear (46x16) but a 70" is probably best (42x16).

jeremywhitehorn 05-10-07 03:02 PM

the neighbour who put the KHS at the curb a few weeks ago (the one i fetched and am now building) put out the front wheel i was missing! now a matching wheelset for me. build almost complete, dollars invested: $0.

I can't hate you.... I want to, but I can't.....

operator 05-10-07 03:13 PM

I did 46x16 last year with Shiz, perfectly fine.

yeah, i'm easy to love, friend.

Wheee. I just finished totally clearing up all the work I have been letting backlog for months. If I work really hard tomorrow I might actually find myself in a situation where I have nothing to do, which is kind of scary because I'll obviously be given some huge project if word gets out that I am idle.

Dang I was just there.....did I miss you? Saw Ronin and Toby
I saw the brain bucket you speak of.....not bad at all.

I've been happy with Giros for the past few years. Expensive but nice if they fit your head well.

operator 05-10-07 05:54 PM

Only one helmet fits my head well, it's that one that comes in small-medium and only urbane has it. Very lame colour scheme though.

The DT-Swiss RR1.2's go down to 20h... no idea about availability/etc though.

It's not for me, it's for someone else's pet pursuit wheelset project.

 Ok fess up who posted?

jeremywhitehorn 05-10-07 06:50 PM

TJ - i like Giro helmets but i find they are a bit shallower than others so they sit on the very top of my head. for someone with a gigantic planet-sized conehead such as myself a Bell helmet would probably fit better. i've been wearing a giro pneumo (sp?) roadie helmet for a few years now. nice and cool etc. but then again, fitting a helmet is personal like fittin shoes so try em on partner...
