Hey how about a St. John's ambulance at the race? Adds a certain preparedness/respectability to the event, and some fast response in case of a major slam... *fingers crossed on this never happening*

Oh Rob...

Keith this wasn't after the sprint with me and Flimflam and (Dave?)was it?

I might be hitting up the race tomorrow.... I haven't officially hit up to work a check point or anything so I'll more than likely hit up early-ish and see where I can help.

Yeah...the crash happened after everyone was getting ready to head out. As for St. John's...unless we are planning on some kind of "official" status ie: waivers...permission from the venue etc...I think having a few folks trained in first aid and a decent kit on hand should be enough. I would say that having a vehicle on hand is a good idea. It was quite fortunate that Milos brought his truck as he flatted on his way out and headed back home for his truck. Otherwise an ambulance prolly would have been required. I have never been a helmet nazi but after last night I think mandatory helmets are a good idea.

TRaffic Jammer 10-25-07 09:46 AM

I concur with the helmets idea. A vehicle on site is definitely a good idea if we can't have an ambulance on site. Any really experienced sprinters/racers/coaches that could toss out a clinic in sprinting to help us become better/safer sprinters?

Sirrobinofcoxly 10-25-07 09:54 AM

some pics from last night's sprints. Some didn't turn out all hat well, but on the other hand some did.

somnambulant 10-25-07 09:55 AM

I was nearly doored at that very same spot on t he way to the sprints last night. The door came so close to hitting me that the lady driver screamed.

I won't be heading out for another 30 mins or so, but I might head into Kensington for cheap foods. If you're gonna be around I'll head past ideal.

TRaffic Jammer 10-25-07 10:04 AM

Doored into the path of an on-coming car? That reads to me as wrong way cyclist on Bloor?
The whole stretch of Bloor between Bathurst and Spadina is pretty hairy at the best of times, once the sun goes down... it's worse.

jet sanchEz 10-25-07 10:07 AM

That sucks about Rob, I hope he is okay. In my experience, a broken jaw is very painful and if he was able to function in a normal manner ie: answering questions, walking, etc, it may have looked worse than it actually was; let's hope that is the case.

duppy.conqueror 10-25-07 10:08 AM

damn get better r0bz0r

yo is that rent-a-po-po I see in some of those pics? did they give you guys a hard time?

I_bRAD 10-25-07 10:15 AM

Wes: I might be out and about for lunch. Care to meet somewhere?

The sprints venue changed? I was hoping to make it last night, but ended up working til 8:30 and didn't feel like going out again.

As of today, for the first time since I was 15, I no longer own a car. Weird.

TRaffic Jammer 10-25-07 10:15 AM

they seemed pretty cool overall.... maybe that's because there was only two of them.
Word to car free... you simply don't need one in the city.

Nice! Congrats on the sale!

I'll be in Kensington.. I'm on foot though as I don't relish the idea of locking up my fancy bike in the market. :) Give me a call if you want.. four-one-six six-zero-two seven-two-nine-eight

I_bRAD 10-25-07 10:24 AM

I'll be on bike. I don't relish the idea of hoofing it all the way to kensington!

TRaffic Jammer 10-25-07 10:30 AM

what is this walking you speak of?

I_bRAD 10-25-07 10:34 AM

It's what you do to get from your bed to your bike!

It is pretty weird but it grows on you. I dumped my POS nearly a year ago and am not missing it at all, except for the inability to do spontaneous middle of the night road trips. It took me a little longer to dump the other car stuff (tools, axle stands etc.) but luckily Pyze had just bought a babymobile. I still have the Kenwood basstube sitting in my living room, though. I was thinking of wiring it up to a pooter power supply and using it as a sub for my home stereo.

Car free is nice, though. As TJ said, a car in Toronto is unnecessary

my bad, that ought to read passing car. that's what i get for going back to work instead of proof reading my posts! apparently it was some schmancy lawyer's car, and he drove her to the hospital. the culprit supposedly followed, but this is all hear-say. my client said he locked her bike up at the scene.

Well that's kinda cool. Is more help needed with tomorrow's race? Does anyone have a link to the previous weeks sprints?

nerdsgirth 10-25-07 11:06 AM

Hi everyone. Will and I spent the night at St. Joes with Rob. One of the most surreal experience I have ever had. Things aren't great. While I didn't see the accident, he had a very blunt force hit to his orbital bone above his eye causing a fracture and major concussion - short term memory loss (determined by exray and scatscan). His Specialized helmet was cracked in the accident. He went through various stages of questioning and understanding. We took very funny minutes, which will be posted when appropriate. You will totally understand if you know Rob's sense of humour.

He is going to be seeing a "plastic surgeon" today. I plan on going back sometime to re-establish the connection with the wonderful (cute young) nurses and drs.

Many thanks to all those involved in his care. The lift from Milo was a godsend. I always knew Will was an awesome guy, but he confirmed it in close quarters. Wishing the best for Rob. 416 five too sevn o too sx svn.

jet sanchEz 10-25-07 11:08 AM

Wow, sounds like he was very lucky to have been wearing a helmet.

nerdsgirth 10-25-07 11:21 AM

Update: Just called st. Joseph's for an update. He is still in emergency waiting for admission to surgery. I am going to head over there to see how he is doing. Give me a shout if available. I am going to leave in 30 min. (see previous post)

TRaffic Jammer 10-25-07 11:31 AM

As long as he comes out of surgery a Rob not a Roberta....
Sending all sorts of good wishes and good karma into the ether.

cavit8 10-25-07 11:34 AM

Do well Rob. Get marinol. As an aside, how is the other rider?

shapelike 10-25-07 11:34 AM

Be a pal and Sharpie his Rob Jr. "DO NOT REMOVE!"

MattRennick 10-25-07 11:47 AM

Woah - I met Rob for the first time "IRL" last night just before I left. Hopefully I didn't rub my bad luck off on him, causing him to crash. ;)

In all seriousness, I hope you get well soon, Rob!

You make me feel even better about not evening looking into that job that you/ryan had mentioned a while back. :P

Also: While it sounds like Rob got broked up good, it's probably A Good Thing(TM) that his jaw wasn't broken. My buddy's bro smashed his jaw (riding in Vancouver) this Summer and spent a good portion of the prime Summer season with it wired shut. Not fun. Heal up fast!

Flimflam 10-25-07 11:50 AM

Wow, that sounds pretty crazy - thanks nerdsgirth. I live a gnats pube away from St. Joes - I'll call when I'm heading home for an update if he's still there (sounds like he will be).

I was talking to Rob about his nice fancy helmet, RRRRRP was around $300 he said :(

And yeah, since nobody's mentioned it I assume the other rider got away relatively unscathed?
