Another way to ask the question is: "would you rather have a dork, or a ****** for a girlfriend?"

****! I totally forgot to have a look at the tools... I guess I snooze I loose...

zippered 11-25-07 05:25 PM

matt, were you doing a shopping run on spadina this afternoon?

Flimflam 11-25-07 06:17 PM

I can barely skate, operator, so don't feel bad - come learn!

I've got a hockey/skating helmet, but I've not worn it on the ice yet - I wear a toque and that's about it.

Weirdness this afternoon, I just happen to remember about cavernmechs' post above re: tools as I'm approaching the store, and think about it for a sec and there was the man himself. Down the road (Queen) a bit east, I'm sure I saw shapelike too, but having never met him in person I'm not sure (on bike ~1pm?).

Anyway, nice day out there - I took a detour home and went on the spit a bit and down Unwin and the trail - windy, but a nice recreational run.

Both! Seriously though nerdy girls rule.

cavit8 11-25-07 08:29 PM

as long as they don't drool...

jeremywhitehorn 11-25-07 09:16 PM

i second the nerdy girl awsomeness but i have to remain old-school in the skating helmet debate. i would say not really needed as recreational skaters aren't exactly going breakneck speed. playing hockey sure, but doing laps in the rink, i dunno.

jeremywhitehorn 11-25-07 09:21 PM

man that CX in the snow looks like fun. although you guys should wear dirt coloured jerseys.

jeremywhitehorn 11-25-07 09:24 PM

i forgot to mention this a while ago: if anyone is thinking of picking up a walz cap i offer my endorsement. great caps and well made for the price of the cheap caps you buy in shops (and they ship for free). oh and they fit huge melons like mine and the plaid makes you look like you're solving dickensian mysteries:

Yeah I agree, I should have clarified that. Nerdy girls are hawt. Helmets are unnecessary for recreational skating in my opinion. I do not necessarily see any connection between these two things.

I have a grey wool and a black and plaid. One had a defect when sent. They got back to me within a day and sent out a replacement. stitch stitch... three caps for two!

I don't think I did any shoppin' on Spadina but I definitely did some riding on Spadina today. Beautiful day to be out and about for sure!

Agreed - I have the same as pictured. If I have one complaint it kind of comes to a point on top but that probably has more to do with my head than the cap itself. ;)

That is one muddy-ass course. Wes, have fun cleaning the bike :p

TRaffic Jammer 11-26-07 07:06 AM

Man that looked like a BLAST!!!!! I soooooo need to get out there next season....oh yes. Nice pictures, Mike is that your SO taking those? Is it some sort of sick joke to outline a course in the snow with white though? Man. anyone that has experienced snowblindness of any sort would have trouble seeing those corners... How evil was the ice on the striaght-away looking shots? The middle of the road looked clear of ice but just a filth run. An adult learning to skate....I'd recommend a helmet..least for a couple times.higher centre of gravity = a pretty good likelihood of a headslap until accostomed to falling on skates. It always seems to be fighting the fall that causes the injury, if you're goin' down, just fall, fighting it never leads to anything good. Yea we should all get out for a skate, that'd be a hoot!!

sorry, not to sound like a stalker, i just passed a gentleman riding leisurely in pink shoes with a shopping bag at queen and spadina. i thought it might have been you, but i wasn't sure, so i didn't say hello. i've been in fred mode.

re: caps i'm personally a fan of the urbanite caps for when it snows. almost covers my piercings entirely, and with a light balaclava underneath it's good for just about the coldest blizzards (if it's just cold windstopper layers slightly beats it out, but not for fashion!)

now if they only made them in argyle...

I was going to ask if anyone had tried the urbanite cap vs the walz. The urbanite caps look really odd on me. Like some sort of futuristic retro-modern chinaman. I'm up for a skate date.

I_bRAD 11-26-07 07:28 AM

I think it's worth noting that I was the only person wearing a helmet at harbourfront last night, but I think I was also the only grown-up that fell. pfft. Everyone else obviously wasn't trying hard enough.

Flimflam 11-26-07 08:01 AM

no new simpsons last night? nothing on torrents :(

looks wet on the ground but OK out, better get to work!

It was new last night, yeah.

Also: I think all you folks considering road bike purchases should totally buy 'cross bikes instead and race 'em next year. It's a total blast.
