Mark and I were talking about that movie last night.. I say we do a BFSSFGTO (say that 5 times fast) screening. :)

I_bRAD 09-21-07 08:26 AM

I've got a copy of that movie... but it's in some weirdo computer geek format that I haven't figured out how to play yet.

How was the bluffs ride last night?

Thanks! I actually spotted that last night and sent her the link because that IS the exact same (sans SS conversion) bike she had... Over the weekend, though, we built her THIS.

Trust me, I'd rather be out racing than entertaining them, but given the circumstances I'll settle for eating pancakes and giving Mike a hard time. :)

Touche my friend. Well played.

It was dandy (you heard me). We had a nice sprint up Fallingbrook and I got to watch Mark suffer his way up Brimley from Bluffer's Park. :) Props to him for doing it on his fixie without taking a rest break. He's a better man than I! I'm kind of glad he didn't really hear my comment about wishing for an easier gear on my road bike. ;)

I will volunteer my backyard, if we want to do an outdoor screening. Anyone have a projector?

The ride out there was great. Brimley is one fast hill, can't wait to bomb it in daylight now that I know it. The bluffs were dark, couldn't see much, but there were some crazed ducks that were thinking of putting flimflam and I out of the picture in order to feast on the Somnambulant.

Quote of the night, from some dude parked in the furthest corner of the parking lot " Who rides a bike at 9 at night" - Little does he know that parking with a girl in his teens will soon lead to him wanting to ride out into the night to get away every once in a while ;)

Riding back up Brimley was tough but manageable 46-16, the others were riding circles around me with their gears :( -no touching down. The ride back Kingston was amazingly fast and traffic was sparse -NICE! Along Queen we got hit with some smoke from the smouldering fire on the Danforth, but not for long. We blew by all the traffic coming out of the Leaffer's game. Got a veggie sammich at the new Ghazelles on College for $3.17 (awesome).

Lets do it again.

I_bRAD 09-21-07 08:54 AM

There's a new Ghazelle on College?

Sounds like it was a fun ride, too bad I missed it!

nerdsgirth 09-21-07 08:58 AM

OT:

Hey has anyone had experience getting a street parking permit for a house with a parking pad? The landlord is asking $100 bucks for the spot per month. Hellls no. But now as a result, I need to get a letter from the landlord saying that there isn't available parking for me, in order to get a permit. He might be a pain about it. Do I just lie and go to city hall and check off the boxes that say:

Do you have parking on your property -no
If yes do you have access to that parking -no

? please pm me.

Thanks,

Graeme Obree's Old Faithful... totally. Of course the front end doesn't look like it will beat the one hour record ;)

I have an OEM copy - on sale now at, believe it or not, HMV for 32.99 :D - if you all want to get together for a screening. Mayhaps we can track down a projector.

I also have Pedal, The Donut Ride doc and an 18 minute version of MASH on dvd if we want to do a mini film fest :)

I_bRAD 09-21-07 09:49 AM

Safety meeting/ride/park?

Noice!

I can probably borrow a projector from my bandmate/video-artiste. I'll email and ask. Of course, we'll still need a sound system or something. Mark, you gots a stereo with RCA inputs?

I can get my hands on a projector. I also have quite a few interesting short films...Tribe CMWC 1995..Critical Mass, about some local messengers...several other cool ones. Lets make a plan.
edit: I might even bust out my infamous Nike commercial.
also...ride/chill/safety tonite...who else is in?

Gas.Face 09-21-07 09:56 AM

i use the conti ultra sports with no problems; winter, summer everything. if you're into cheap and cheerful, MEC has them for sale for something like $14. if you want to spend a little more money i really like IRC Durotours; they last a hell of a long time and have a nice enough grip to them. urbane hasn't had them in the last while, but when they do i pick them up for $25 or so. i don't like to spend too much on tires (or any part that's designed to wear out for that matter: chains, bar tape, cables, etc).
Did you have any problems getting those ultra sports on? i have a pair of wire bead ultra races that are super tight...i was ready for a crow bar at one point.

I'll be stopping off for my usual pre-rock visit.

edit: also, I have a short thing on dvd about Fast Fridays that Dustin @ Cadence sent me. And uhh.. the Sonic Youth video anthology. Not bike related by I just got it and it's awesomer. :)

Flimflam 09-21-07 10:03 AM

Ride to the bluffs was good, kudos again to Mark, that's a big hill at 42:26 (my lowest) let alone 46:16 heh :p Loved that ride back - hitting 60 is always nice. After I had to dip out early to my buddys place - I hit the smoke around Vic Park/Kingston which was harsh. Thanks for the ride, glad we escaped those nutso ducks ;)

I can't make tonight I'm trailering my precious from her place to mine for the weekend, have fun.

Am in for a film screening, I have all the Lucas Brunelle videos I can re-render into a DVD and/or burn as video files but don't think I have anything else bikey, other than my own crappy footage. Did anyone catch Tinos' guerrilla screening? maybe that could be incorporated..?

no, they go on pretty easy. i've used them on MA3s and open pros.

Wow. The Nike commercial's coming out? These truly are the end days.

Side note: So after my "state of the union" pre-race practice I have this to report:

Dismounts, high speed and slower: "good"
Suit-casing the bike: fine
Shouldering the bike: okay
Remounts: ****ing awful. I only managed to get it twice. All other attempt result in the stutter step foot tap-down before I can plant myself in the saddle. I can't figure out what to do with my body in mid-air that doesn't result in a primal fear of bagging myself. It feel like the saddle's a foot behind where I want it to be and have to jump backward or something to get my leg over it. Obviously not, but definitely something I need to do a lot of work on.

yeah...the full jump-on requires some practice and a bit of a leap of faith. I will wager a ton of guys in the 3/4 will be full stopping to dis-mount and doing the one foot on the pedal... leg throw for the re-mount. Meet at the shop for 7:45...time for load up and coffee before the highway.

Mine were/are hellish... dunno why they feel the need to be such *******s. They grow easier each time I have to change or patch a tube, though.

Think that's fun? Try putting a brand spanking new Vittoria Open Corsa on an old Ambrosio rim. Before I got the technique down I broke two STEEL levers(!)

Should we plan the ride/safety around a meet at yer local park?

Danhalen 09-21-07 11:19 AM

Thanks Keith, wish I could but I got family obligations tonight. Although I'm pretty sure dinner at my grandparent's house won't end too late so I might still be able to meet you guys actually...

I can actually hold my arms in the correct position on my handlebars now! Woot! Shouldn't be too much longer now. Then I'll be posting way fewer lame jokes on here... and you'll get to hear way more in person! Yay!

At $27 a pop for PR2's, I use nothing else. Not so great for flat protection though. Michelin recently came out with the P3's. They dropped the race from the name.

Where can you get them for $27 a pop? I see them on PBK for $30.54, is there a code I need to enter? Thrity-one bucks is still an amazing price, I love my PR2s; I went over some glass just yesterday by mistake and there was no problem. Solid tires and they feel really really nice.

Does anyone have, or know where I can get a 14 tooth cog to fit into a 9 speed cassette? I had the 9 speed cassette in a bag, and while travelling, the 14 tooth fell out and I need to replace it.
