I'd be happy w/ an old Steamroller or whatever (just lookin' for fork ends and practical). With my long-ass legs I think this thing's just going to have waaay too much drop if I build it back up. Size is a 53 I believe. I'm looking for something w/ a 54-55cm tt (horizontal tt preferably).

PS. Moving chews, but the new place is rad.
PPS. Effective top tube is about 53.5/54cm, but the drop makes it feel longer.

That is a beautiful bike

jeremywhitehorn 11-03-06 09:31 AM

agreed, steeker. it seems like KHS has been lowering their standards since they stopped making those sloping tt frames.

i just roasted more coffee now my apartment if full of smoke.

TRaffic Jammer 11-03-06 09:39 AM

Wish I had a frame to trade.

Shiznaz 11-03-06 09:40 AM

That khs looks nice and all but I can tell ya I'm glad mine doesn't have a sloping top tube!! Plus where are all the rack and fender mounts?
Not that my silly sloping cyclops has those...

jeremywhitehorn 11-03-06 09:42 AM

yes, what is a track bike without a rack and fender mounts? is there even clearance in the frame for fenders?

I was never a fan of the sloping bike on the street, there was no faulting the KHS "budget" bike. A decent frame, fork and some 75's thrown in for good measure. a good back wheel and you were rocking. Sometime's I rue the day "fixies" became so popular. Gone is the day when I would buy complete Campy lugged bikes for $400. Sigh.

I paid $500 for my Campy Coppi track in 98' NOS from 1976. 98' also got me a Campy Gardin from the 70's also....$450. In 99' I paid $750 for my GT Pulse...complete Dura-Ace, CXP 30 tubies and CXP 30 clinchers. Those were only the ones that I bought for myself...many others were purchased and resold (usually with clincher rim updates) to friends. Those days are sadly gone.

not 34 yet! surprising to say though, the years are getting better. never thought i'd say that. nothing worse than being young and poor. ;)

drool.

one of these days i'm going to go into high park cycles and grab the raliegh carlton track bike with full campy sr of the wall and run once i chloroform the owner. i'm not sure he knows what he has. either that or he's keeping a museum.

okay, in speaking to Cam last week over coffee we brought up the idea of this scotch tasting we've been talking about for so long. i'm curious if anyone else has some time off over the festivus break when they're not visiting relatives or what have you. i know i've got a couple weeks off school and at least a handfull off work so i'd like to pick a date and just do this thing. it will be nice and cold out too. whose around and free between christmas and new years?

cavit8 11-03-06 12:14 PM

I think Mike should volunteer his new place for this as he has a fireplace. Fireplace + single malt...

I think they will come back again. Things seem to be slowing down a bit and the trend is slowly doing what all trends do, die. In a couple of years, the hipsters will be selling all their frame and components and things will be cheap again. Maybe even cheaper, once the flood starts.

I just wish I hadn't said "No way am I riding a track bike on the street!" to my friend 6 years ago when he offered me his Conti for 300bucks. What the hell was I thinking?

lymbzero 11-03-06 02:15 PM

Anyone have a pair of decent condition 32 hole 700C clincher rims?
Double wall, single/double eyeleted... SILVER?!!?!

Box/Aero whatever..
Ambrosio? Old mavic? whatever.

All the new stuff I am dissatisfied with. They just keep getting uglier, heavier and blacker.

I'm looking to lace these used Miche hubs I bought like months ago for a winter wheels.
I've just been super lazy.

I BUY YOUR RIMS
PM me. KPLZTHX

:)

Not sure if you can still get these, but I've had good luck with Sun M14a's. Light, no annodizing, no machining, pinned, semi aero, single eyelets. Pretty much oldschool. No problems with mine until I wore through the brake surface on 'em (winter use). When I swapped a new rim onto the wheel I couldn't get the bare, used rim to collapse by sitting on it-usually it is easy.

It really pisses me off that there are not many good quality, moderate cost rims around. Just more and more flashy crap, and ever bigger, sparklier logos.

lymbzero 11-03-06 03:21 PM

I'm looking at the Ambrosio stuff.. It's ALL GOOD stuff.. too bad no one distro's in Tdot

TRaffic Jammer 11-03-06 03:35 PM

Keith can get you some. I looooove Ambrosio...rode an Areo Elite around when Operator was born for 6 years straight, bomb proof. I'm trying to get an aunt in Rome to send me some Ambrosio Focus rims

ORLY?

TRaffic Jammer 11-03-06 04:04 PM

He has access to , um.....A couple/few of the Ambrosio rims, but not the whole product line through one of his distributors. I'm holding out for a set of FCS's
merely one page from the catalogue... but I think Keith has access to some of the ones on this page.... the high high end ones are sick yo!!!!

My miches are built to Ambrosio rims, never realized that was such a rarity. I got my wheels from Dave Fix My Bike right down the street on christie from me. Maybe he has a connection.

Anybody feel like biking west on dundas towards hamilton tomorrow? I'm trying to find a good route to hamilton as I dislike lakeshore. Not starting too early...

Still, it looks like some kind of crazy jujitsu bike or something.

Also this weekend seems to be the best forecast weekend in about a month. Sun and cloud, temperature fluctuating in the single digits. No reports of ridiculous wind.

Your cross bike would be completely acceptable. Your Jujitsu bike sounds even cooler though. I am still a fan of coasting and gears. In fact I'm going to be looking at this dude's Gios road bike tomorrow. I might be nuts but it sounds sweet and it's my size. My Urbanite is a bit small for me and... well this is a Campy Gios. Just don't let the moderators see that. More on topic, today I came down the hill on Bayview just north of Bloor/Danforth on my track bike and wow it was a lot of work! It was fun though but man.

So... route suggestions (other than accross the lake)? I'm feeling uncreative. When i ride i usually just aimlessly meander unless I'm at work in which case someone tells me where to go.

I would but I don't think I can spare the whole day for a ride, I got **** to do. I could spare maybe a couple of hours or something maybe.

Shiznaz 11-03-06 06:08 PM

I don't really feel like doing much more than 100km tomorrow, so that should limit it some http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=525805

Is this a ******** route? I can't decide as I don't know the west end all that well.

TRaffic Jammer 11-03-06 06:13 PM

Dundas can get pretty quick....Burnamthorpe is cool. Less travelled out there might be Bloor and it's just above Dundas out in Mississaguga. Have fun with that looks fun.
I used to ride out to say, Kipling from Leslie queen , then head north on Martin Grove to about HWY7 in Woodbridge. It hurt nicely.

Shiznaz 11-03-06 06:18 PM

I basically want a quick route out of the city to the countryside, but I for the life of me can't decide the best way.
