Not that long ago I was the retrogrouch to end all retrogrouches. Suspension forks? Wusses. Clipless pedals? whats wrong with clips and straps. Hydraulic brakes? Needlessly complicated. I have seen the error of my ways. Carbon stuff is admittedly over priced. But I have to admit....the first time I tried a carbon fork on one of my bikes I was hooked. I had never felt a fork in any material that rode as nicely as carbon does. As far as durability goes.....I have seen more catastropic failures over the years in aluminum parts (mainly forks, seatposts and handlebars) than carbon ti or steel. My 220lb ass rides confidently on a carbon post on my track bike. Hope this trust is not misplaced. |
When you say track bike is it the bike that rides on the track? I'd not worry about a carbon fork on a velodrome either. No squirrels....
I was thinking about switching out the suspension fork on my MTB to a stiffy. |
i've tried a carbon fork and liked it fine, but my opinion is that i don't avoid carbon on principal alone, or for fear of failure, but simply because i'm too cheap. i'll probably own some carbon parts at some point, but like any new technology you have to wait until the market is saturated for the prices to come down to reasonable levels. plus, i don't know of many carbon forks made with fender eyelets, except for a few in the UK where they know all about rain.

It's funny because it's a carbon-look chainstay protector. |
[QUOTE=operator]Sorry I woke up too late (lazly bum that I am). It was a crosswind for most of the day if you were travelling north/south. That kinda blew. I think I would've gotten dropped at km 0 anyways. My fitness isn't that great atm from a winter of sedentary lifestyling.
QUOTE] Hey no problem. Maybe next week. Either those guys have gotten faster, or I have gotten slower over the winter. Last year I didn't have any trouble holding my own, but yesterday I was hurting. |
well if it's the first one of the year.....
I gotta say it's been some time since a beer, and the trip from Sneaky's to home is kinda blurry.. I had a great time, thanks guys. |

I'm not sure if vintage Italian was what you're looking for, but Serotta's are an American bike.

Anyone have any secret remedies for arthritic pain (specifically, arthritic hips)? Other than advil, I could use a tip.

It's a Crohn's thing. Crohn's disease is an auto immuno disorder where your body's immune system attacks itself. Predominantly, Crohn's disease attack the mucous membrane of your digestive tract, but it can also affect other mucous membranes. In my case I sometimes get pain in my hips from the inflammation Crohn's causes.
Doctors are useless when it comes to not-quite-chronic pain. They just tell me to get over the counter drugs, which is why I sometimes asking "whoever" if they have any recommendations. I'll try those Tylenol ones. Oh, my Sugino 75 BB showed up today. That's the last tricky part I needed for the Pake. *glee* - eyefloater Edit: got my spell on. |
One of the guy's my wife works with has Chohn's as well. Inflammation from diet?
|
No, just a peculiarity of my case. I've had it for 16 years now, so my diet doesn't encounter too many surprises.

I have psoriasis, which is also (contrary to what most people think) an immune disorder. It can also cause arthritis. It's never gotten bad enough for me to do anything but pop a couple advil and make sure to keep my joints warm / moving however. I hear you about doctor's not caring enough about anything like that though... although I started going to a new doctor a year or two ago and I just complained about a couple small aches and creaks and he sent me for like 924839283489 x-rays. The people at the clinic were asking whether I'd been in a bad car accident or something and were totally confused when I told them I hadn't really "hurt myself". Strange guy. Dirty office too. Don't see him anymore. :P

psoriasis....weird me too..... and it does affect my skin

I wonder who owns it?
So..... what goes on at these Crit Vacuum rides? Is this a fixie thang or are us gearies invited as well?:) But it would be awesome if some people made a dirt track out of it. And I'm pretty sure that everyone is welcome on the Critical Vacuum rides. |

Re: Critical Vacuum rides, definitely everyone is invited. My friend Marwan came on Saturday with a fat-tired geared mountain bike. Usually it goes ride-doobiebreak-ride. Hope to see more people next time. There were enough of us this last time out that people kept commenting from the side of the road...
"Hey, a bike gang!" "Hey, it's like... a bike-a-thon or something!" (less than a block later...) "Hey, it's a ****ing telethon!" (Buh?) |

Fentanyl Hydromorphone Meperidine Morphine Oxycodone There's a few off the hit list that I've been on. My problem is I'm "opiate tolerant" so a lot of standard issue pain meds (ie. Percocet/Percodan) like you mentioned don't work well on me. Operator, I'll try that copper ring and let you know how it goes. I may need you to check the fit for me though. I'm not sure exactly how snug things should be. |
Hopefully I'll be out next time. A little bit of evening riding sounds like fun.

How about med to heavy ball-peen hammer? Just kidding bud...damn that sucks, the guy at my wife's work is in his mid to late 20's as well.
SO....check out the track, there is no way a school still runs on that track....no way no how. I've had my aerial photography experts have a look and it's either a dead track or a mobile chemical warfare factory. http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/3489/track8ay.jpg I'm liking the idea of creating jumps and berms and such if we can get permission from the school. It seriously doesn't look like it's been used in years. I'm gonna check it out. |
