We are on page 1337! Woo!

I picked up a superflash on lunch today and JHC it's bright. 1/2w LED is almost overkill I think. At any rate here's a PSA, Dinottes having a sale again. 200L lithium ion version + tailights. The 140L tailights is like a 3w LED or so. Still waiting for an affordable bright front light.

2.5 months?? HEhe. Grab the energizer recharegeable kit at Walmart $19.99, 4x 2500mah nimh rechargeables + charger. Can pickup a 4x AAA 900mah set for like $13.

Rob are you at Urbane or Bike chain today?

I'm fulltime at urbane now. Usually just dropping by bikechain during lunch or something.

pyze-guy 11-28-07 06:56 PM

Sprints tonight, anyone going? Are they still at Ontario place now?

Was at Cycle Solutions in the beaches, and was told they are off. Would someone like to confirm?

Anywho...

As it stands, sprints are on - despite my saying to Will earlier they were not happening due to the awful weather we were supposed to be in the middle of. However, that being said I will try and post an update on here - and msg the Facebook group - before 8pm with my final answer.

And on that note, we're also working on a ****e weather contingency that could possibly take the shape of a bimonthly indoor event. This is of course pending some logistical issues that some of you may receive somewhat cryptic pm/email/phone call/etc's regarding. I assure you, this is not on purpose so much as my style of running with a project that is a somewhat of an incomplete thought, but so far so good :D

bump

kergin 11-28-07 07:20 PM

Is that a bump of, "yes, sprints are on. Learn to read, ******," or, "uncertain..."?

TRaffic Jammer 11-28-07 07:26 PM

I would NEVER "learn to read" anyone...merely pushing to the front.. I checked the FB group and no mention...I'm thinkin' it's on. Anyone got's the good Dr's . digits to be certain?

ok .... I'll be uncertain for perfect clarity.

Ahh, so that's what was going on there, then. I came from Main/Danforth across Bloor to find the worlds supply of emergency vehicles everywhere and Avenue/Bloor closed to the west and south. I asked an officer if I could go south, as I was trying to drop in at the sprints (didn't mention that part to him though ;)), and he said yep, but man - that's three incidents this week and four in two weeks in that little block of town that I've happened upon. That fire at Bay/Bloor-ish, coincedentally there was another fire going on at Charles/Avenue that I got tangled up in, as I chose Charles to get over and back upto Bloor. Doh, this ROM incident and last week there was a weird fireworks display in the construction area at Bloor/Bedford (over the road from the track/field) - really weird, I figure drunk students but didn't look in the news for anything.

Crazy!

Edits FTW.

- Whatcha making there, Gravey?
It's a pipe bomb, Jobriath. For to blow up planned parenthood.
- I don't know, Gravey.
I'm sick of your lack of faith!

Heheh, I rode my Ciocc up Keele past the 401 today and there was snow up there! I couldn't believe it and would have ridden the bike with fenders if I had known it was going to be like that. The people in cars looked at me as if I were some sort of alien-being---"A guy on a bike in November?!"---and I didn't bump into one other single rider until I was back in Parkdale. Freaky :)

jeremywhitehorn 11-28-07 10:30 PM

All this talk of lights got me to thinking about battery solutions. i found a light at MEC and bought it: it's a 3 LED light run on a wind-up generator. you have to wind it for about five minutes to get about a 40 minute charge. other than kludgy mounting hardware it works fine.

duppy.conqueror 11-29-07 07:03 AM

whats up nasty car driver? you say i should be on the sidewalk? are you sure you wanna go out like that?

It's like this everday for my commute. Walk out of house, snow. Proceed south down Yonge st. Snow turns to slush turns to ugly liquid crap then to nothing when i'm downtown :(

somnambulant 11-29-07 08:36 AM

Yeah, the amount of snow up at Albion last Sunday was a bit of a surprise too. :P

ps. had a 1/2 flat tire this morning. Didn't realize until I was already around the corner. I passed 4 bike shops (Velotech, Bike Clinic, Bike Joint & La Carrera) and none were open. For shame!

TRaffic Jammer 11-29-07 08:44 AM

ew squishy tire, I hates squishy tire

jeremywhitehorn 11-29-07 08:48 AM

what time were you out there? to my knowledge, urbane is the only shop open early...

somnambulant 11-29-07 08:53 AM

Around 8:45.. and yeah, I guess I'm still in the Summer mindset of seeing Derek (and/or Brad!) + Vinnie outside their shops when I ride by.

Also: **** winter.

jeremywhitehorn 11-29-07 09:00 AM

how dare they rest for the winter!

Sweet Ton Ton, the toe clips are ILL, SON! Submit that **** to tontongallery.com!

I got there just after you, I guess... not a rider in sight.

somnambulant 11-29-07 09:03 AM

The race I'm planning on doing on Sunday should be interesting.. :P

"At this point it appears that the final race on Dec. 2 is still a go, but please check for further updates. The current forecast is not very favourable. At the very least, we will not be using the hill to avoid bicycle-toboggan collisions. "

Ottawa forecast:
Sunday: Snow. Low minus 14. High minus 4.

= lol +

What a day to have to ride up north, and reading that there's snow still up there makes me feel awesome (feck arse girls). Ho hum, should be fun nonetheless... Anyone want to ride north a long way this afternoon? :p

I must've got there around 9:45/10 and only saw people up on Queen and on Strachan (about 4 in total nobody I recognised to know) heading away from the scene - I wasn't sure how many would show but figured it's on my way home anyway.

We still open at 8:30, We're maybe just a little better at fixing bikes then getting to the shop on time! (It's Derek's day today so I'm off the hook)

jeremywhitehorn 11-29-07 09:11 AM

i was thinking about this ROM bomb-scare thing: perhaps a guerrilla performance/installation art piece?

I_bRAD 11-29-07 09:16 AM

The explosion part of the video was pretty well done I thought. Of course the guy posted it on youtube from his own account so I'd expect the guy (an OCAD student) is probably at the station by now.

This reminds me of that story from a while back where someone had a sticker of a local punk band- "This bike is a pipe bomb" on their bike... and well you can figure out how that played out.

Too bad they blew (pun not intended) all that money last week staging a mock terrorist incident when they could have got an OCAD student to set it up for them for free!

jeremywhitehorn 11-29-07 09:20 AM

yeah, i was about to mention that - in fact when i first heard about the story on here i assumed that the bike pipe bomb was making a comeback.
