Toronto Fixed
hey all...
Just wanted to introduce myself. I met a few of you on last night's CM, and your openness and general positive vibe pulled me in. So, here I am! Thanks again to those who welcomed this newcomer. Looking forward to being a part of something rather than riding alone all the time!

I wonder if they distribute that PDF in Iraq too?

our cats freak every time one comes near big noise scary. That looks like Joel Metz's bike up above, I believe he's got over 100G on it now, which is a lot, but it's REALLY a lot for the same bike. I can imagine it feels like part of him by now. S&S, custom rack, truly broken in saddle, looks like a busted up commute mtb until you look close, smart dude

Budget? Some can get pricey. Mechanical aptitude? Some setups can be "converted" ...

lol it wasn't actually, for once...
FYI the liberty village farmers market is quite decent! the produce was actually local, the farmers themselves were selling and they were very informative, good selection and not crazy expensive. $8.00 for 1 kg of raw honey ftw!

*goes to make some toast*
I need one of you chef type people to give me an egg poaching demonstration.. I always wind up with something that looks like a cross between seagull crap and a jellyfish. Incredibly appetizing!

WTF? An 1183-page Toronto thread? omgwtfstfu this is unreal. Montreal doesn't even seem to have a thread. I'm almost as taken aback as this morning when someone told me it's Sunday and not Monday.
So, I'm gonna be in town next weekend for a wedding. When I lived in Toronto I was geared through and through, so I'm not sure where to go, but I plan on trying to make it to at least one of these places:
- cavern cycles
- urbane cyclist
- cogs cycle
Are any of these ripoff artists to be avoided? Does one of these shops or one I haven't listed carry a good stock of old parts? I'll be fishing for pedals, hubs, chromo bars, old seatpost and saddle, and stuff like that.

go see keith at cavern first, he should be able to at least point you in the direction of the parts you need if he doesn't already have them. Urbane has a nice selection of fixed-specific parts in stock, but they're a bigger shop with what some claim can be crusty attitude (i've never really experienced this). Both are deffinately worth a visit. Never been to Cogs, so i can't comment.
You might also want to visit Jet Fuel (again?) coffee on Parliament as it is a gathering place for all things bike-geekery. Hope you enjoy the visit.
EDIT: BTW - none of those shops are "rip-off artists". The only one of those in town is Igor on Queen west. do not under any circumstances buy anything from him as you will probably be purchasing something stolen.
