Floppy drive, what about 'Press play on tape one'. From my PET. I remember when I got a VIC 20, man I was so cool as I was the first kid who had Jupiter Landing.

For those interested in social policy, ride with me to the open house today: That means you zipper and Cav.

Rad bumping into you at the show lastnight Dan. Your life will never be the same now that you have met Andrew Clark.
Come to CAMH’s Open House and Public Meeting

October 03, 2007 CAMH, in partnership with the City of Toronto, is pleased to invite its neighbours to attend an Open House and Public Meeting at 1001 Queen Street West (Queen and Ossington) on Wednesday, October 3, 2007,to introduce the next phase of the Queen Street redevelopment project.
You are invited to drop by at any time between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm to view plans and visuals of the new buildings slated for construction in 2009. Following the Open House, Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone will chair the Public Meeting, which begins at 7:00 pm. The Public Meeting will include a comprehensive presentation of the next phase of CAMH’s redevelopment plans and will provide an opportunity for questions to be asked and answered.
Both the Open House and the Public Meeting will be held in the cafeteria, located in the Community Centre at 1001 Queen Street West. On the day of the meeting, signage directing people to the cafeteria will be posted at the Queen Street site.

For the iPhone gotta-have-it's

https://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895...LNAV100307FEA1

All iPhone applications run with full root privileges and any application vulnerability means winner takes all.

The iPhone has been turned into a "pocket-sized … network-enabled root shell," said H.D. Moore, thanks to the well-known security researcher having published shell code for the smart phone and instructions on how to use it as a portable hacking platform

Thanks for all the hard drive info guys. I really appreciate it. Having had a hard drive completely die on me before I certainly do not want to go through that again. I knew the prices were down but wow that info about the small price increase meaning a huge increase in space is really interesting/helpful. Cool beans! It Tiger Direct a good place to look? Any recommended local places? I live right near that strip of College with all of the computer stores on it. I've dealt with Canada Computers before and I dunno, they were kind of dinks. Prices didn't seem too bad but the whole dink thing was annoying. Seems to kind of come with the territory though from my limited computer store experience.

What do you mean by root shell? I can only assume you do NOT mean as in a root vegetable. Seriously though does that mean you can I dunno program video games on your phone? Is that a dumb question? Is it way too complicated question for me to ask here? I have no idea.

Oh and VIC 20 was before my time, although I did have a couple of friends that had one lying around in various states of disrepair. Commodore 64 on the other hand, I remember that well! There were some sweet games on that bad boy. load*,8,1

Mark, nice work man! Man that show was awesome last night! I can't tell if your comment re: Andrew sounds encouraging or ominous

root = unix/linux/etc term for basically full-access administrator access. The "god" account is always called "root".

So therefore if all the applications on the iphone are running with root level access and one of those apps has some sort of security hole in it.. that hole could allow access to pretty much anything on your iphone. This is obviously pretty heinous for a device that's whole point is basically to be always connected to the internets.

wikipedia is your friendski. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_user

Factory Direct is a pretty good place in that area. I also used to buy all my DVDs from Sonnam (I think) two or three shops north of College on Spadina.

Not necessarily easier to hack, but if it DOES get hacked it leaves you open to severe rectal damage. As in: Rectum, damn near killed 'um.

haha @ your nerdiness /me refrains

Dan, also check out Canada Computers (www.canadacomputers.com) Sonnam and maybe Jumbo Computers on that strip. The others are fine, too, but these stick out for me - you can usually try and barter and haggle them down on the strip, too.

TigerDirect is OK, but they're in like, Etobicoke or Markham (or online).

PS, l0lz at the iPhone..

+1 nerdy/pedantic -- you'd need to use sudo for that command (i.e. sudo <command> runs command as root),
whereas su <user> lets you become another user (root by default).
