The best part about Keiths story was me doing his work today! hahaha jk
Here is something I came upon. Way too big for me (58x58) but is going to make a wicked project. The rear wheel was replaced at some point and the original shifters are long gone but the coolest front derailer is there. Also needs the correct cable guides in a few spots. If I was a jerk I'd say it would make a very sweet S.S. .......but I' not a jerk. haha http://i27.tinypic.com/2qimfk2.jpg |
we will talk......oh and I got piped at the last minute on the wicked pantographed stem! Damn ebay ninjas!

Nothing says "I'm trying too hard" like riding around on a bike like this. It bugs me. I can appreciate the craftsmanship I suppose. Although Brooks Saddle + zero setback seatpost = ridiculously forward saddle position. Doesn't look too comfortable at all. And what's up with that chainring? Not drilled for lightness I would imagine, considering the wood rims. It looks like a steering wheel from a 1970's Firebird. I know I'm like the only one in the world who doesn't like the whole "Vanilla Cycles" esthetic so what do I know.

i'm not saying i like the bike to ride it, but from an show bike standpoint i found it pretty impressive and innovative. i should say that my dream bike is probably a matt chester custom, which is probably about the simplest frame you could imagine.

Wow. If that bike didn't have words on the rims, that would be 100% wicked!@
Note to self: Buy carbon fork, headset, stem, hubs, seatpost, seat |

I think it felt colder out there this morning than it did yesterday.
*cough* scotch party *cough* |
i love how when storing a bike inside, going out into the cold, and after 10 minutes riding you can feel
the tires getting nice and squishy. that 30+ degree temperature drop makes a difference. |

Oh yah, they're having a group buy, carbon-clincher wheelset on crappy joytech hubs for $700. 50mm deep. No branding.

Any decent manufacturer would have very very few "rejects" Definitely not enough for a group buy. Also, any rejects they did have would never make it to market.

I'm not saying all the sales available are sketchy; the Pedal Force and Bike's Direct Kestrel ones are just a good deal. But some stuff that people snatch up really gives you pause for thought. |

*cough* scotch party *cough* I thought the opposite, probably just the wind has changed as it didn't seem as bitter. Should be an interesting ride home with the snow over the ice - time to take the lanes.... |
Wind was against us eastbound commuters, making a bit of difference today I guess. I was saddened it was the same base temp as yesterday, after thinking it'd be a tad warmer with the higher high of the day.
Lots and lots of the white ****e, +1 on taking the lane and watch for the hidden tracks! |
Funny bikechain story: Some kid brought in a Krappy Tire bike.. it was a Rayleigh something or other, so I expected a bit better quality control than the supercycles that come in daily. He was complaining about his wheel being "off" -- it was about 1-2 inches out of true, so I figured he broke a spoke. When we checked tension, ALL of the spokes were completely untensioned. Unless a friend with a spoke wrench was playing a practical joke on him, that wheel was probably only laced and never tensioned.
Oh and keith -- I get sad whenever I see cavern's empty front window while on the 501 streetcar.. would you consider re-buying the shop to open in the spring if we all asked really nicely? ;) |

heheheh.. I too get depressed whenever I pass through the 'hood on my bike. It's like my subconscious can't let go and I keep having this nagging feeling of wanting to go pop in to say hi. :) Plus I've got nothin' to do on Fridays after work (and before Rock Practice) now. We'll have to rectify that with a regular park meetup spot when the weather improves.
|
It's a little odd seeing the empty shop I will admit, but I don't get sad b/c Keith was happy about being able to walk away from it and go onto other ventures. This was his choice. Had it bankrupted and been a foreclosure kind of action THAT would definitely have made me sad.

it is baaaaaaad out there right now, you can't see anything and the snow is falling so fast. All the main roads are hard packed snow, it's really slow going.
|
Yeah, it's the craps out there folks. Slow 'n' steady (hopefully) doesn't die.
ps. yeah, the hentai one nearly destroyed me actually, but I decided against posting that one here. :) |
i think i feared for my life on more than one occasion on the way home tonight. i actually stopped and bought a pair of platform pedals for riding in this weather.
|
Good luck all. use the shwartz!
