I further fail to understand the attraction to cross tires in this kind of weather. I am stuck riding the 29er for the time being and I have a pair of 32c cross tires on it. I was all over the place. I feel so much more confident on my 23c's. Didn't stop me from totally smoking all the traffic on Gerrard tho ;) I wonder if the jackass who was honking at me at Broadview has reached Carlaw yet.

Sure....I will re-open if you wrench, do sales, customer service and all the paperwork.
Streetcar? *scratches head and shrugs* re: The streetcar -- you know, that long red thing that hauls crackheads, lushes, and people too wussy to ride on days like today (i.e. me). At least I got 45 minutes in on the trainer in the morning. |

The tard quotient on that sub forum is really, really high. I can't understand how those people go nuts over buying discounted and de-branded junk from anonymous people over the internets. For a while, there was some guy trying to sell de-branded wilier CF frames. For all you know, they could be QA rejects, and people are snapping them up! *shudder*

Sorry Dan. Thanks Brad |

In other news, if anyone has a largish French threaded frameset (or is interested in a french threaded Hatta Swan headset), lemme know. And this is my favourite Valentines: http://www.joecartoon.com/cartoons/191-gerbil_valentine (work safe, albeit a bit loud). |

Also: I vote for a little hooch consumption during Paris-Ancaster this year. I'd love to pull over, do a shot and continue on. Well, I'm saying that now, it probably wouldn't seem like such a good at the time. Then again, I managed to keep the Timmie's sausage breakfast sandwich down last year. Not the smartest thing to inhale just before a 3hr race. :P |

Yeah, that's part of the reason why I like my cx tires.. 40psi ftw. :) Takes the edge off of all the nastiness.

damn that was a fun ride home tonight in that snow...cars were all over the place and i was just truckin past 'em!
|
Well, that was something else. Didn't go down, but I went damn slow; doubt if I broke 15km/h the whole ride home! Said it before and I'll say it again: fixed works really well in this crap.
I am torn on whether to bring the MTB or the fixie to the ice races. P.S.: Hope everyone else had a safe ride home! P.P.S: RE: operator. Huh? Who's Tom? |

Speaking of Veloflex, I'm going to order some more of those bad boys. I even ran a pair of the Paves on my track bike and I'm amazed how long the rear has lasted! It's still going! They ride soooo nice and are pretty flat resistant actually. Only two flats in 6 months between two pairs of tires. One of those times I rode over a screw so that wasn't the tire's fault. The other time it was from me pinching the tube when I installed the tire. Also not the tire's fault! |

I heard the veloflex records were ownage. The TPI tends to agree. |
Yeah, I'm in for a set as well, if you're interested in splitting shipping/etc.
|
shipping is free to canada
i thought about ordering some a few weeks ago but the 22's aren't as puncture resistant and i don't really wanna ride 20's on the road |
I had the back slide out on the tracks last night, as I needed to pass a truck... other than that, it was a slow ride mainly due to Queen being backed up and not much room (or safe places) to pass. Felt great to have a happy face/wave to a couple of kids on the streetcar while the doors were open, I like to feel it helps promote cycling but *shrug*. Got laughed at by a backseat passenger for the slide out (almost went down) and I just called out "YEAH! Nearly!" with a huge grin, sadly I couldn't catch them to shove my grin in their grillz.
Went out again at about 8:30 to head up to the east end, got a pinch flat on Brock and had to do a roadside repair, luckily I was close to the hockey arena. There a lot more bikes out than I thought too, I cheered everyone I could :) I have a 27" 1.25/1.5 on the front and a 28c on the back of this fixie I'm riding (POS old cheapo Bianchi) and I felt fine, it was squirrelly at times, and there were a few times on Brock I got off, picked the bike up out the way to let the impatient ones by - but mostly everything was cool. Was practicing sideways skidding and went about 270* in front of a pickup on Danforth (traffic was backed up SO far it was hilarious :D) - lots of fun, especially as I was in no particular hurry I could play about a bunch too. Ride in was equally fine, Danforth was finally cleared and started backing up getting onto Bloor, so I rode through the tailbacks - much faster being on a bike today, hands down - and I took my sweet ass time just being careful in unknown spots (I ride the route a lot so knew where the ice-pack was for the most part - Queen was a different story last night in places ) That card: awesome :) Still not sure if I'll race in the ice race, I'd be in the rubbered category, as I've not the desire/spares to make any tyres just yet - it sounds like a blast though so I'll probably swing by. |
Where/when is the ice race this year? Dufferin Grove park?
|
So apparently Astana, the team that was basically Discovery, yet took the name of Astana, is not being invited to ride in the Tour this year. So the defending champion won't be allowed to ride this year. The Tour organizers are suggesting that Astana made cycling look bad this year, but the team is completely new this year.
Seems silly to me. But, it means to Toronto Fixie crowd can apply! Who needs gears up Alp d'Huez? |
jet: saturday at dufferin grove.. I think it starts at 6:00? Brad posted an ad a couple pages back.
iherald: Yep, the whole pro road cycling sport is totally falling apart. The Giro d'Italia organizers didn't give an invite to Astana or High Road (formerly T-Mobile) either. Astana actually has 3 Tour hopefulls too... not just Contador, but also Leipheimer and Klöden. Plus, as you said, they're an entirely new team this year, so I don't see why last year's hijinks has any basis on this year's. |
saturday at 6 is correct!
|
last night's ride home was fun.
i decided to go across queen instead of going up to dundas/college. it was hilarious to be getting places so much faster than traffic. I got off to walk up the hill between dundas and college on ossington as the parked cars and non used curb lane was too thick for the 23's to get through, and the 4wd trucks kept buzzing me when i was pushing close to the street car tracks. i got home to a pair of goggles and an underhelmet mask on my desk and dinner being served. best girlfriend ever. |
my right palm is hurting me lately, i have this numb sensation while riding, it's making it hard to skid. Anyone one know what's wrong with my set up?
I just got oury grips, maybe that's got something to do with it? |
