Sorry, meant to answer this last night but it slipped my mind.
http://www.polymotion.com/ They're up in Concord I'd go with the oil impregnated bronze busings. If you ask nice for some "samples" you might get some for free (the usually deal with large orders) No specs online, but I think I have a catalog at home, so I could give you a part number if you give me measurements. |

Really, really awful about the store. The more I think about it, the worse it seems. I tend to go to the Markham St location, since it's more convenient for me, but the Queen store was my introduction to Suspect. Are the two stores owned by the same person? If so, that would like help financially at least. Obviously the worst part is all the irreplaceable things that I imagine were in there, but that sort of thing can hopefully be slowly built up again over time. |
Hi there,
I've been lurking in this forum--and this thread, in particular--since Jan '06. I'm a bit shy and never introduced myself even though I have met a few of you who work/worked in bike shops (Rob, Keith, Mike). So, hi! The reason I finally post, is that I need some advice from fellow T.O. commuters. I need route advice for my commute in from Etobicoke. For the last year and a bit I have been commuting in from St. Clair and Bathurst. This last weekend I moved out to Brown's Line and Evans. Today was my first commute in. It took an hour and was a bit smoky at the end but was otherwise pretty good, except for the bit where the roads get squished alongside the Lake (the stretch from the Food Terminal to the west side of High Park). This morning I took the Queensway for that stretch, which was not ideal b/c of the high speeds and lack of a shoulder--there is an on-ramp to the Gardiner. The other alternatives that I can identify are Lakeshore and the Waterfront Trail. Lakeshore seems to be just as busy as Queensway--is there any more room? Obviously, the Waterfront Trail would be ideal in non-winter conditions. My question is this--is the Waterfront Trail maintained in that stretch in winter? Has anyone ridden it recently? How do you do this stretch in winter conditions? Thanks! Burk |
The waterfront trail is not maintained in the winter, although it's usually clear enough to ride between major melts (i.e. probably not now)
Queensway sucks indeed, but your only other option is lakeshore, bloor or dundas unfortunately! |
keith, sorry to hear that crap about mindy in this day and age.. chock up another restaurant for the black list. i've got a lot of old co-workers in the area who'll be more than glad to boycott.
just got back from class and read about the 6-alarm blaze (6 ALARM?!? holey moley).. then realized it was at queen/bathurst.. ARGHH SUSPECT. those businesses must have insurance, but i can't say the same for the renters above them. it might not be realistic, but everyone should get some kind of homeowners insurance for peace of mind. take it out of the peeler's budget. |

The most existing Victorian architecture outside Boston.

And yeah, insurance is pretty damn cheap, so it's definitely a good idea. Both for covering your own belongings, as well as liability insurance to cover your arse in case you wind up flooding/burning/etc the place!
(let that be a lesson: too much gamjatang (pork bone soup) is not good for your bike.) it would be funny to re-create that shot right at that location! sorry som, was that what you meant? see if someone can discern where it is exactly... some ref pics: http://www.toronto.ca/archives/fire1.htm |

http://www.toronto.ca/archives/images/f1244_it00022.jpg it looks like it's looking south on bay just a bit south of queen. ...even the detailing on some of the ruined facades are gorgeous. ok enough procrastinatoring... |
goki, you don't write, you don't call... I was wondering where the love had gone.
Then six posts on one page!!!!! |

And I cannot imagine what Mr. Duke will go through when he sees the store he's worked almost all of his 80 or so years. I was just in there on the weekend chatting with Derek and Gary. Brutal. Oh and speaking of the 1904 fire, this is my absolute FAVOURITE and cannot stop watching since I found it - ironically - just a few weeks ago: http://www.toronto.ca/fire/news/100/index.htm |

Thanks for all the advice guys. Mindy will be making the appropriate complaints (thanks for the #'s and offer Dave) I am just gonna stay away from the place and appreciate y'all puttin' the word on the street. They actually have in their Liquor License Application right now...I wonder how the charming crew in there will be when they get a few pints in em.

I rode by that bike shop in the Annex (I can never remember the name) and they have one of the Fuji Obey bikes in the window and it doesn't look all that bad. I am sure it is pretty expensive but I kinda like it....bearing in mind that I have a black/gold bike already, I guess that is no surprise. I was in Urbane a little while ago and one of the mechanics and I were talking about my bike and he seemed to think the rims I had were Mavic Open Pros. We got to talking about the rims because they haven't needed a truing in years and they are still true. There are no stickers on the rims at all but they are super-solid rims, aero, grey-anodized and laced to 105 hubs. Anyone know if there is a serial number or something inside the rim? They were on a Gardin bike that I purchased years ago for a girlfriend....32flavs has that frame now. |

On a lighter note, I have some HED wheels. There has been a discussion with my friends on how to pronounce the company's name. Is it Hed like heed the way, or Hed like head?
|
Guys don't miss the lunar eclipse. It's already begun right now!
|
I've always just assumed it was pronounced like "head". Speaking of which, I've been oggling these: http://www.hedcycling.com/ardennes.php. mmm.. 23mm wide and lightweight. Wish I could try 'em out. Maybe there'll be a set at the bike show..?
