So I just got back from meeting Lance Armstrong! He was giving a talk for AMD, and I was lucky enough to sneak an invite with some people. I got to watch his talk and then after was lead into a back room and got to meet him.
Unfortunately the people I was with were supposed to get an hour with him before his presentation, but his flight was delayed so we didn't get very long after. Nonetheless, it was pretty cool. Apparently he swears by Assos chamois creame, and thinks that all professional sports should have the same doping regulations, because he said cycling looks bad because it's by far the most stringent and therefore they catch the most people. the NHL looks good because they don't test. |

It is kinda nice to get the fork un-cut. Too many times I have had customers who want to change headsets and the fork doesn't have the required amount of steerer.

Is anyone planning on attending any Nuit Blanche events? I think it'd be cool if people are interested to get a bit of a rolling caravan to check out some stuff. Although, the 8-hr race is that day as well so who knows whether I'm going to be in any shape to stay up late and ride around. :P

[any other winter shoe suggestions?
I'm going to call Racer Sportif about the Northwave Celcius and the Gaerne Polars and Eskimos My feet just hate the cold these past few years. Once cold the rides sucks large. I think it's an offshoot from having frostbitten the tootsies in the wayback past. Thanks for the two sizes bigger tip in the Lakes.... I was hoping for superior winter construction that required no more than normal socks.... too much I guess? What is bitterest to you Zippered? You may want to jump on the icebike mailing list for some suggestions (http://www.icebike.com/). They have some cursory reviews on their site. |
about the winter shoes: there is a guy i've ridden fixies with in the past who is very into getting the best of the best gear-wise (don't worry, he has good taste and is a talented, avid rider) and i seem to remember him speaking highly of the sidi winter boots and also i believe the northwaves. for my money, though, i'm all about full fenders, regular spds lined with plasitc bags, wool socks and maybe some toe covers.
EDIT: last winter i used the shimano spds with the lace-cover flap and they seemed warm enough most of the time. just build up enough of a fat layer that you don't feel the cold. besides, you're not in montreal anymore! we don't get winter here... |
Ok before I ante up and order online - does anyone know of any HID systems that can be purchased locally for $200-$300?

I love watching foreign language commercials and thinking "wtf is this advertising." Especially when you get to the end and you go "oooooh.. wait, what?"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or-_xAg_beU What's the going rate for a Krypto Evo mini around these parts / does anyone know of a good deal? I've been finding that I tend not to go places where I need to lock up (which works for not getting my bike stolen, but is annoying) since I'm not confident in my cheap/low end black "Kryptonite Keeper". Oh, and I would like something light enough that I could toss it in my bag without thinking about weight. EDIT: I just measured and the tire clearance on my conversion is probably too big to lock wheel+frame with a mini ulock. Any alternate suggestions? Locking frame only / cable for wheels, or locking the rear wheel "sheldon style"? |

That's what I always do. If I know my bike is going to be locked up for an extended period I'll often take my crypto cable and run it through the front wheel as well.
PS - wes, where do you work on campus? I live down in engineering-land |

Exustars seem to be a pretty good bang for the buck from what I've seen. An even better bang for the buck was last year when they were clearing out the "old" winter shoes, AKA the $250 Lake winter shoes for $50!
