Ooooh nice Marinoni! That thing is begging for some degreaser cleaning of the brake hoods and some Fizik white bar tape IMO.

Jet lucky guy you are I’ve been to many garage sales & keeping my eyes pealed online locally hoping to find something like this no such luck. Nice score.

I have some Fizik tape on my road bike at the moment its great so far a different feel from cork & gel.

So I got my 29er built up yesterday and took her out for the inaugural spin. Very impressed although I still have a bit of tinkering to do with position. I didn't have the 29er tires I wanted so I put on a set of cross tires to ride over to Cycle Solutions in the Beaches. I was feeling a bit dead initially as I was still a bit stiff from the 8 hr on Saturday. Got to The Solutions....picked up my tires (for a sweet deal and my race points covered the cost! Sweet!) chatted with Nelson and Mak for a bit and headed off. I thought it would be cool to bomb through the Nature trail from Kingston Rd down to Queen as I havn't been through there in ages. As I crested one of the little risers, a big ***** busted tree trunk was sticking out 1/3 the way across the trail. I turned at the last moment so as to avoid getting impaled on the sharp end but took the full brunt across my chest and arm. It threw me from my bike clotheline style and I hit the deck with a meaty thwack. End result..2 bruised ribs...many cuts, bruises and abrasions on my chest and arm, a very stiff neck and a busted helmet. I thank dog I was wearing it as I am certain if I had not been I would have been knocked right out. Moral of the story....don't bomb trails you havn't been on in 15 years.

Ouch! I've heard so many new-bike crash stories! Gotta love that first minute or so while you decide if you're gonna be able to breathe again any time soon

Glad you're alright, get well soon!

At least I didn't hurt the new bike I remember an old riding buddy of mine who used to ride a Ritchey P-21...ultralight steel race frame. He would throw himself under the bike when he crashed to keep it from getting damaged.

aww carp! I was actually gonna give you a call last night to see if you got the new ride out for a test ride or not. oy! Hopefully you're happy with the ride, otherwise.

I'm living with the wonders that are super allergen-sensitive eyes right now. I noticed by the end of the day on Saturday they were feeling pretty itchy.. Today they're all red, crusty and swollen/puffy. I look like I've been a victim of spouse-abuse! Time to throw a steak on there..

Also, I was thinkin', now that the trees are starting to change colour, who's up for a nice scenic road ride out of the city sometime in the next few weekends? The Weather Network has a "Fall Colour Report" we could use to assist scheduling (https://www.theweathernetwork.com/fallcolour/index). I was thinking maybe a ride up from Kipling station to around the Badlands and Forks of the Credit area. Probably about a 120km ride? Or we could do something shorter if people aren't up for that kinda distance.. maybe out to the Rouge Park area?

ps. can't. stop. checking. canada post.

pps. we should also get a group out to Forestcity sometime on a Saturday, do some rec riding in the afternoon, and then stick around for some races in the evening.

ppps. "Velocity’s new rim decorations are actually stickers."

Here is my newest project, a 1984ish Marinoni Special that I picked up today. It is in pretty good shape overall but I will probably change out the bar tape as it is kinda gaudy, even though it is very good quality tape. The whole thing is 6-speed Dura Ace and it fits me like a glove, I cannot wait to do some long hauls on this puppy.

edit: I have the ugliest cupboards in the city!
Nice bike. Sounds like you got a good deal, curious as to what you think an older Marinoni (not sure if it's "vintage" or not) is worth if you don't mind my asking... there was one on craiglist recently I'm interested in. My old road bike became a one-speed when the freewheel died, sure would like to get back on a geared ride.

Heal soon Keith, sounds brutal.. New helmet > new skull.

I'm up for a Fall Colour tour, just depends on my scheduling re: weekends (don't fancy 100+km with the trailer )

It is hard to say but I've seen them go for quite a bit and that one on CL for $800 is probably worth it as it seems to be in very good shape and I personally know that SLX tubing is amazing. Over the summer there were a couple of Marinonis on CL as well, one for $400 with a mid-range group from Campy, Triomphe, I believe and the other was $600 for a 105 group. I was really tempted by the one for $400 but it was in pretty lousy shape so I balked and then it was gone.

I paid $250 for the one in the photo, it didn't come with a front wheel but I have two extra wheelsets lying around, so that wasn't an issue for me. I just noticed this morning that the stem is a Cinelli to match the bars, I guess it would have been a top of the line bike back in the day. I'd been looking for a Marinoni in decent shape and in my size for awhile now and I am cheap/poor so this bike really fit the bill for me.

mmm.. bike pr0n shipment #2 has arrived.. Keith I might stop off with my hubs/rims today or tomorrow. Let me know how if you're going to be at the shop past 6 today or tomorrow. If not I'll just strap the rims to my bag and bike them down at lunch tomorrow.

I don't get how it's appropriate to charge me PST for a product purchased from an American retailer. I mean, I still got a great deal, but that's just rude!

Glad to hear you're off to the vets - get checked up and all that, bit of downtime to chill out and regroup - can't have been a fun time to be batted around.

So you're finally getting your stuff through Wes? I don't get how they can charge PST on that stuff either, but then taxes are beyond me anyway.

Bejesus Keith I hope it all turns out to be minor deceleration trauma. A hearty hat tip to Team Wes .... word to Nerdsgirth bringin' it in skate style. Fam and I did a good chunk of Nuit Blanche early so it wasn't so crowded and had a good time. I saw the Argon18 Electron and I kinda like it.

What's up steak eyes. If my shoulder cooperates I'm so down for both of those ideas. I'm getting so close! I had my first physio today. Will take at least a month to get my full range of motion back but I should be on the bike before then. Woo!

I was just chatting with an older dude wearing Messengers Inc kit in the elevator and I forgot to push my button and wound up going for a floor-tour. That's all.

oh **** and congrats on the placement on Saturday guys, nice going (kudos to Mark - almost everytime I hear of your riding you seem to pull some great feat - bluffs on a fixie, cross with no chain )

speaking of group rides... when's the sprint idea down at the Ex. kicking off? I've never ridden competition anything, never raced anyone other than when I was a kid, so I'm happy to try... I'm already bracing for failure

I'm not into offroad stuff so much (maybe one day), but I'm down for the sprints and a road tour of colours... 120k is fine with me, I've not ridden too far since I came back from the Niagara region last time so I'm about due.

A minor concussion and strained neck FTL. At least I'm still pretty! Have i mentioned how grateful I am for our Public health care system? I shudder to think how boring my life would be if I lived in the States...all worried about crashing and the costs of treatment. Doc says as long as I as don't push too hard for the next few days, riding is not a problem. YAY!
