Guys - re: the sprints
1) Geared bikes allowed? 2) What's the distance on the sprint? 100m? 200m? Straight? |
mmmm Gelato! We aren't bringing anything really track/fixie specific other then a set of ellipse wheels and possibly a paddy-wagon or two to the show. As for clothing, I know Giordana makes our team clothing in lengths.

Yeah, we had a couple guys on geared bikes last week. I think the full distance is probably about 200m along the straight in front of the main Exhibition building. You don't *have* to start sprinting from the line though, but I think everyone did save for one race. Keith and I were the only people that did a slowish rolling start, trying to see who would jump first. That was more fun to me, especially at 48x18 with people like Mitch there with like 78x8. :P Otherwise I'd just be spinning at 120rpm watching the other person moving away from me. :P

standing or rolling, up to you and who your racing, I did both. I prefer rolling :P

I think people maybe don't get the idea of a matched sprint. Toby was telling me about his time in the sprints. I was telling him "in matched sprints times don't count that's not the point at all, they aren't timed". That's what the flying 200/kilo etc. is for. Keith was suggesting riders doing a flying 200 time, which would be cool if people want to know what their all out sprint time is. A matched sprint is as much about strategy, psyching the other rider out and trying to read when the sprint will start. I think that is way more fun than just hammering off the line. I mean it is all good, but maybe people should get an explanation of what the idea of a matched sprint is just so they know. I mean if people understood the idea of a matched sprint they might want to do it. Just a thought.

word. That was the idea of the flying 200 I think, just to get people's rough times so that we could better pair people up for the sprints. Plus then we (and by 'we' I mean 'Will') don't have to be dinking around with stop watches all night. :)

I hear that! It's also a big reason why I like a lot of cycling clothes off the bike as well... they're usually cut slimmer/longer which means they actually fit me properly. :P
and you've never truely had gelato until you've walked across the ponte vecchio in florence while slowly savouring some chocolate mousse gelato in the summer sun... but i'm just sayin'... |

so once we are split into classes, do we further group ourselves into gearings?
|
Re: Long arms. I too skin my knuckles on the pavement when walking and can't find a proper fit. I wonder if people with long limbs tend to enjoy cycling more and therefore stick with it?
I bought one of the Trackstar hoodies because of the slim fit, long arms, and back pockets. I got a L. Arms not long enough, returned for an XL arms barely long enough. And this coming from a hoodie that boasts long arms. sheesh. |

hey wanted to say thanks for the ride last friday had a great time.
Sorry I had to leave the way I did. 3 words, fellas; Dames Is Greif! Ahhhhhhh well - I have another hot date tonight, let's hope this gal doesn't turn out to be... nevermind. ;) |
Time on gelato is up for grabs. Meet-up point is also up for grabs. Any suggestions?
Anytime in the evening is good for me, and the meet-up should be fairly central to accommodate both East and West-siders. |

Most non-comittal post ever :D Where is the place you mentioned?
How about Honest Ed's parking lot at 8? Dolce Gelato is in Little Italy near College and Beatrice. |
not that i'm coming, but as an fyi the sicilian (also in little italy) MAKES their own gelato. you can also have it with waffles and/or expresso if you need something to warm you back up. their tiramisu is deelish. or should i say delizioso!
|
Dolce makes their own as well. I've never tried Sicilian's, although I do plan on it someday. Would it be wrong for us to go to... both places?
|
oic
you are 32flavours, are you not? ;) |
not sure if I'm gonna make it back out again.. I got all tuckered out riding around after work. :P
|
Probably won't make it to the gelato gathering.. the weather bummed me out (I had to put on my fleece sweater, boo).
PS, saw this on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=4952640100&ref=nf for those that haven't seen it, a screening of the Flying Scotsman on Saturday night. |
