Windows rage moment #4982346: after I fixed my workspace issues all of a sudden I got this weird "ghost" icon of a file I had on my desktop. I couldn't click it and it was being displayed on top of any windows on my external monitor. Had to restart to get rid of it. blargh!

Oh man there's a combo!!! Speaking of combos I saw the ad for the new KFC combo bowl and totally wanted to hurl ...mashed potato, corn, popcorn chicken, shredded cheese then slathered in gravy and served up. URG. I gots a LaCie 22Blue attached to the laptop....man do I miss it when designing at home though... I'm hoping I'll be able to find a LCD TV that I can use as bedroom TV and/or second monitor..does such a beast exist? The workspaces options are awesome....define a new one for whatever intensive thing you are doing, super handy.

mmm.. Lacie. I have a Dell 24" lcd at home that I use as a 2nd screen with my powerbook when I need the extra real estate. Really great quality, actually. I was a little wary of it at first, but I've been quite impressed with all the Dell LCDs I've used. It has 5 inputs of varying sorts, so I also use it as an HD monitor for my xbox 360 (that's its main use) and hook my PS2 up to it as well. There's just a button on the front bezel to switch sources (or do picture-in-picture ). It doesn't have a tv-tuner built in though (or speakers, obviously), but I don't need it for that.

Wes , the guys upstairs doing colour correction all have the NEW LaCie lcd/plasmas... sexy, capable of being calibrated, and wicked expensive....2G's I think. Word is we're not buyin' anymore of those.

tj: a sdtv lcd hooked up to a computer is gonna look like anus unless you're just using it to watch sd video files.

Err, just swap the chain out and make your own using the remains of the old whip and the right chain?

i actually tried that, on the one i have the parts that go onto the handle are not standard pins but more like rivits and i couldn't get them off with either a chain breaker or a pin and hammer

thanks tho, i supposed i could always pick up a more standard one and do that if all else fails

Yo Tony! Did you bust the filzer one? Me too...

Honestly, just order that Dura Ace whip / Lockring tool if you've got the dough... use mine in the meantime... She's a beaut!

Everytime I wander into the road forum I'm irked by how little some people know about the products they own/are planning to own. This leads me to a question, as maybe I'm biased based on what I do at work.

Do most of you pour over geometry details on a bike/frame you're considering, or you do look for the same nominal size sticker each time and call it quits at that? Did someone tell you once what size you are or are you trying to find the perfect frame down to the mm each time you're looking for something new?

Ya, I couldn't write that w/out sounding biased but I fully admit to being a complete neurotic headcase. Maybe it's because I'm all leg and don't fit most off the peg frames well or because I do a lot of fittings that this bugs me, but doesn't anyone else even bother looking at this info?

I just want a new bedroom TV (no external cable anything just cable in TV), that I can connect as second monitor if I want to. I guess HD is cheap enough now eh? I was hoping for LCD for energy savings as well as slimness in the placing in the room.

yeah the filzer, i had a feeling it would break since yours did, but i threw caution to the wind since they are pretty cheap

i was thinking about the dura ace, so i might do that, where did you order yours from?

I spent weeks ensuring my Picnica fits me to a "T"

Seriously though, I've never bought a new bike in my life, so I'm not the best person to be speaking up, but I find that there's a fair bit of adjustment latitude once I get a basic size. If I was seriously into racing or something it might matter more to me.

I got fitted by you actually and it worked out well. That said, I don't know enough about my dislikes and likes to think that a custom bike would be in my cards.

If I were to buy a new bike, I know my basic size and then I'd go from there. My worry is that if I were to only go by what I have now, I might be missing that my body likes a geometry different from what the ratios say it should like.

I've NEVER had a bike that FIT like it was supposed to. I'm always getting something that simply is off ...just a tiny bit, and then screw around with components to make it fit better. OR just suffer through it. I'm bad for being too stretched on a bike, I seem to repeatedly do this to myself. If I were ever fit I would use that as a template, as every differing kind of frame/riding will affect what your final size/fit would be.

Free fits = nuts about fitting.
100buxs a fit = one fitting for rough idea and then extrapolate from there.

I just pick up random bikes until I find one that feels light, and then look at the rear derailleur to make sure it says shimano. That's really all there is to it.

I'm pretty neurotic about geometry/fit. For me, at first it was kind of like taking stabs in the dark, but experimentation eventually paid off, as knowledge of what works for me built exponentially. Just ask anybody. I'm always adjusting my saddle 1mm or talking about tube angles or something. I actually find this stuff interesting.

So Mike, wanna go grab a beer and talk about fork rake? How many mm's are you running?

P.S. That wingsuit base jumping video was eXtreme to the point of hilarity!

Heheh, I bet this isn't too far from the truth for some people. I see quite a few posts in the Roadie forum where a guy/gal has just purchased a bike for $2K and it is set up completely wrong for any human being to ride.

I've never bought a new bike but I have bikes ranging in size from a 56 to a 60 and they all fit me pretty well after tweaking them here and there. The biggest difference I've noticed in the last few years is that I don't stretch as well as I used to so I ride on the hoods more than I used to. I guess that is an age thing and that one day I won't be able to ride in the drops at all. I guess I will get a recumbent when that happens.

It's true. Every other time I see you you're talking about how you made some really ridiculously small adjustment recently and how you're so much more comfortable. Unless I'm in pain I don't really think a whole lot about it. I know I did a lot more futzing when I was having knee problems last year. A

lthough I did think a lot more about frame geometry when searching for a cyclocross bike. But I haven't touched a thing on my bike besides the saddle height since my first test ride (where we swapped out the stem to something 1cm shorter). Not because I haven't thought about it, but only because I've just never taken the time to make any changes.

Maybe if Mr. OCD Bikefit is ever home when I'm out running errands I can come by and pick up my trainer so I can try to dial things in a bit better at home.

Oh, and also, my current bike fit at first felt a little long in reach to the brake hoods.. but after the first time I raced it I decided it was perfect.

ps. Ritchey Biomax bars are the shiznit.
