Yeah, that's the poor little guy who was mentioned on the radio last night... I mean, yes he was in the wrong, but hell man - he's 7, it's not like he knew much better :( Stupid parents irritate the hell out of me.

Good idea on the Sharpie, that'll work nicely I bet... though aren't battle wounds/scars hardcore? Or is that just for human skin and not componentry? :p

I've almost wanted someone to take my Rob Roy so I can watch them get pitched off it trying to coast, but at the end of the day, I'd prefer not to have it potentially gone - thievery sucks, vigilantism sounds cool but I dunno if it'd be so effective, there are a lot of people in town that just don't give a crap about anything and I'd rather not get involved in a confrontation if I can help it.

To paraphrase my engineering design prof, "If you have to damage something, do it to yourself and not my tools.. you'll heal, tools won't."

I'm far too impatient for that. A henious spray adhesive and a feather pillow works fine by me. Besides I suspect most bike thefts are by people without much of a head to get into.

These guys usually have good stuff and good prices. It takes a little while for them to get everything sorted/uploaded/etc, however.

If they're antiquated for whatever reason, try George @ Parts Unknown (?) - he's in an alleyway off Augusta right near Baldwin, IIRC.

Across the street from the Freshmart, past the white fence and down the laneway.

I just noticed Keith in cam's image.

HolyMoly I've done 130k in the last two days..which is equal roughly to two weeks of work/home commuting. Frankly I'm bagged but I feel good. Not much spark left in my legs right now.

Go to High Park cycle, really friendly guy who has tonnes of quills to spare. In and out. I <3 Jon. JK, but he does have a tonne of stems of various quality. Go on acid.

Wes, I always beat you to it! booya.

How is this for happy bike month for ya! I forgot to share this unfortunate story. I was passing by the Delaware exit of Ossington station and I saw a fellow who tried to get himself and his bike, which was propped up on its rear tire, through the spinning spikey floor to ceiling exit. He effectively trapped himself and bike within. While the TTC staff deconstructed the device, passerbyers were taking pictures and throwing tomatoes.

Danhalen 06-26-08 05:29 PM

Actual tomatoes? Dinks.

You'd think there would be a simple "ratchet release" switch or something. Anything that has human bodies going through it on a regular basis should probably be designed to disassemble quickly should something happen.

*edit* who wants to build a bait bike with me? i'ma get vigilante on they ass!

oh i'm down with the bait bike idea.. just make sure that you loosen the locknut or even the axle slightly so that when they start to make the getaway, we'll charge them like a buncha savages (a la braveheart) and laugh our asses off when the rear wheel/chain/cog gives way and they do a nice faceplant.. it's fun to play '52 pickup' with yr teeth!

beausage my friend, beausage. i think a worn patina is great on all things that get used regularly (think a worn leather jacket or a pair of 501s with a hole in them). personally i like the look of a great quality bike with a bit of wear on it but that's just me...

jeremywhitehorn 06-26-08 08:43 PM

anyone else notice the new bike shop in kensington selling used parts? same street as parts unknown, closer to dundas...

operator 06-26-08 08:48 PM

Don't forget if you sabotage your bike like that you're opening up yourself to lawsuits. Even if they are trying to steal your bike.

vainglorious 06-26-08 08:57 PM

not even if i have a cool disclaimer/sticker/decal on it that reads 'warning! this bike is unsafe to ride!' ?

kergin 06-26-08 09:04 PM

so my Chrome bag is pretty good, but once it gets full - especially with a heavy load - the thing becomes unbearable because the buckle tends to sit really high on my chest, almost digging into the collar bone, and there's zero padding on the back. Anyone have these problems? What should I do about it, get the bag modified with back padding and perhaps a different buckle?

Also: Humber College is getting a bike co-op! This is ****ing awesome! I fully intend to volunteer there when they open up in the fall.
Also-Also: saw two baby raccoons wrestling in the humber trail system - those buggers are pretty cute.

Get a backpack. Messenger bags are convenient, in that you can swing them around and access the contents easily, but no matter how well designed they are, the majority of the weight is on one shoulder and it will pull accross your chest. A well designed backpack will be much more comfortable. I know this because I have spend a great deal of time delivering heavy crap in a messenger bag.

just rode clipless for the first time, definitely thought i was going to fall off my bike the first 2 times i tried to clip in because of how the pedals are balanced, but got used to it after clipping in and out as much as possible over a few hours

pretty damn sweet

Holy crap I totally never saw that.... nice job, Cam :D

Just got back from a summer party at my former employers - as I was taking off from there, I rode down King W on the wrong side while I waited for a gap to get across to my westbound lane and the cop car I passed didn't mind a **** I was riding the wrong way/wrong side of the road right by them... What gives? I was *clearly* in the wrong, meh, I don't care :p Saves me a ticket ;)

I was 'encouraged' to ride down the office hallway where I used to work, but skip stopped before the stairs (it's a 2nd floor office) - some nice harsh black streaks down the carpet now... I'm just glad my buddy is finishing Monday - I felt awful after realising the mess I made :p

Bleh, beered bedtime, woo.

That's probably Shannon's place. He used to be the head mechanic at Bikes on Wheels further up the street. Nice fellow, apparently.

MattRennick 06-27-08 08:24 AM

Few pics / ride report (mostly me complaining) from the first "Thursday 100s" ride up now: http://www.makergo.com/shutup/

TRaffic Jammer 06-27-08 08:37 AM

nice one

Flimflam 06-27-08 09:59 AM

Yeah I'll try and join you guys as often as I can for the Thursday 100 - just depends on when I get back into town from Whitby, but it's usually around 7 or earlier, so I should be fine. Sounds like torturous fun :)
