I was eating some pho the other day and I rode the Roubaix down and locked it up (within eyesite) and sure enough, a guy stopped to check it out. I like to think he was just admiring it but he was there for about 3 minutes, which made me a bit nervous but then he continued on. He then came back about 15 minutes later and stood looking at it for another 3 minutes or so. I was with 4 friends and I am not a small guy anyways, so I continued to give the guy the benefit of the doubt that he was just checking out the neat bike and yeah, he didn't touch it but it is still a bit nerve-wracking having nice things in this city sometimes. |

Keith, I'll be by saturday morning. I still think we should have a bike swap. We could join the guys across from your shop :D You think the bike theft is bad? I had a customer the other day that had his tube stolen...not the wheel or tire...just the tube. How much crack does a tube get on the street these days anyway? |

I had a guy in a few weeks back whose wheel got ripped off while he was standing next to the bike. He came out to unlock it, look a call on his cell and while he was turned the other way talking, someone just flipped his QR, grabbed the wheel and took off. He turned back around and was like - 'tF?! - didn't even see who did it.

-decide to take street car home, no idea what cash fare is. Get on, ask if it's still $2.50. I only have $2.50. The price is now $2.75. I start telling the driver that I don't have enough and my front wheel was stolen, I don't even get through the sentence and she tells me not to worry about it and get on. Slight glimmer of hope for humanity. -call Mike to regale him with my tales.. he gets all macgyver on me and suggests electrical tape until I can get to another shop. ghetto fabulous red electrical tape does the trick. Not to mention the bike shop charged me $6 for rim tape for one wheel. |

Always lock your front wheel/seat if it's going to be parked for commuting. Otherwise, well.

well, thanks to keith i'm finally on my way to riding fixed. after much deliberation and humming and hawing as to what route to take, i've decided to buy a mark v. other than the stem (and a rear wheel to be built by cavernmech), all parts are still to be decided on. hope you can handle all my newbie questions over the next few weeks ;)
unfortunately the bike won't be seeing the streets of toronto as it's heading to BC on wednesday. and it just dawned on me that i'll be bikeless for the next month as my geared bike is also heading there next week :( anyhow, thrilled to finally be going fixed! |

I spent the afternoon making a SS out of the frame that I used for a year as a fixie, my Colnago Sport. I didn't spend any money except 10 bucks on the stem, everything was just lying around and not being used for anything. The rear wheel is a great old Shimano 535 that I found in a dumpster last year and had new bearings put in and it is nice and stiff, which is perfect for this frame as I found the rear to be a bit spongey. Rode around a bit today and it is great and fast but yeah, that rear brake housing is way too long and needs to be black. I'll do it on Tuesday ;)
