Hey Keith, any chance we can work something out so that my lady friend can make use of your lil' mountain bike on Sunday? I can pick it up wherever/whenever. There's also the option of dropping it off at Cycle Therapy if that's near your respective hood. I'm thinking of inviting her along on the Albion trip and showing her some of the double/singletrack. If I can get Sara hooked on riding offroad I will have officially won at life. ;)

The Black Ghosts ... fun stuff

To back up your point of me being a coffee snob: I don't drink fair trade coffee, I drink direct trade coffee. Only because it happens to be what they use, however.

To refute it: I actually DO put refined white sugar in it.

In fact, what was the matter was that I was jealous of your punnage. Dan knows well how much I enjoy/attempt them. :D

Please note: Not to spoil your fun, but I do not have room in my car for 3 people + 3 bikes.

somnambulant 07-03-08 04:33 PM

Anyone know if the Thursday 100s ride is happening tonight?

edit: n/m.. just got the scoop from Wil.

That's fine, I'm just trying to get things in motion (I'm thinking of your mention of multiple vehicles here). There's always the Don if Albion doesn't pan out.

Word. And at this point nobody has actually responded to my email, but I'm pretty sure Andre is definitely in and he has a car. :) I really need to get another bike mount on my car... can you guys get in Thule/Yakima at CT?

TRaffic Jammer 07-03-08 05:23 PM

Up next... hood mounted bikes!!!!

Indeed, I bailed out tonight. I hit my kneecap on the end of one of my eggbeaters and it really really ****ing hurt, I can't walk so nicely and riding is a bit of a chore so I'm resting up after getting back in an hour later than normal :( Shouldn't be something a good overnight sleep won't cure :)

As I wussed out of the Hairshirt, I'm planning on going one Saturday in the near future to do it - anyone else interested in this form of torture?

operator 07-03-08 06:48 PM

That sucks. I had to ****ing bail/crash into the middle of john st. cause some idiot pedestrian decided to step into the middle of the street behind a car without looking.

Now my left wrist is all ****ed up and I don't have time to see the doctor. On top of that working 6+ days a week.

Woop-dee-doo.

Also mr. Whitehorn we will now charge you $30/min for browsing urbane displays =)

Absolutely. The tough thing will be the timing. I am leaving early Sat morning for the weekend (another chapter in the "Summer of Keith") and won't likely be home tomorrow eve till 9ish. What time do folks hang at C.T. till? I might be able to get it down there if someone is around. It does need a going over before taking it out....it hasn't been used in well over a year.

Are the huge drops in eleveation what you rode or just anomalies in the data?

What I rode, afaik.. but keep in mind that the scale is wacky since the x-axis is 30km and the y-axis is only about 300'. Like that really low section near the start was when I road down the ramp of the pedestrian overpass at Queen & Roncesvalles.

Wow I put my Telecaster up for sale on Craigslist a couple of hours ago. I just came home and had 20 emails about it. One of the people who responded was James Shaw from Metric. If he buys it maybe I can make him promise to make Metric not suck. :D

I assumed you would have been oggling and/or crying over (since it's a 55cm) the Rivendell. :)

the bleriot? i like that one even though it's a 650b. and 55 in rivendell language is something like a 42 to the rest of us.

somnambulant 07-04-08 08:23 AM

Yeah.. I've been looking at similar bikes. I was actually at Urbane at lunch yesterday, eyeing bikes. I surprisingly like those celeste Bianchi cruiser/city bikes... I can't remember what they're called. Fenders, Nexus-8 hub, etc. Pretty handy. I wish they had 700c wheels though. Also checked out the Bianchi San Jose but they only had two: 49cm and 61cm. :)

I can't say that I really understand the advantage of 650b over 700c. In fact, I think I'd rather have a 26" wheel than 650b simply due to the plentiful supply of parts/tires/tubes. I mean, functionally I can see why a 650b wheel is better than a 26", but ultimately the 700c is even better (at least for someone who isn't short).

jeremywhitehorn 07-04-08 08:29 AM

i think the allure of 650b wheels was initially being able to retro-fit a 700c bike with them and run wide tires and fenders. building a bike around them though, not sure i would put stock in that.

That's the one...

I'm gonna go bomb the flats in the Don and probably crack a cold one or two somewhere in there after work this afternoon (maybe 4:30-ish) if anyone's interested.

We "close" at 6 but always end up being there until 7 anyway. I'll see if anyone plans on staying later tonight and post on the forums. If not, we can try again during the week - maybe I'll hit up the Don w/ Sara after work some night.

EDIT: n/m ... Cam saves the day.
