We could probably order that hub for you, but are you sure you don't want the best drum hub as opposed to the lightest? |
re: bike tour - we just got a nice small camera (yay craigslist) so lots of pics for sure. i'm also taking a notebook to hopefully keep a good log. brad is in charge of the route mapping.
re: boxing - i boxed for a couple years. i was never much of an athelete, and certainly never a boxing fan, but i fell in love with it. it taught me a lot of really amazing things, and even though it was quite hard on *my* body (i already had a lot of chronic back and neck problems to begin with) i still really miss it. there is a huge amount of respect you have to have for an opponent you spar with; the training involved gives you an amazing sense of focus and self-confidence. my coach used to quote: "you have to have the power of a weightlifter, the agility of a dancer, and the endurance of a marathon runner". i could ramble about this for a while, but i just wanted to put my $.02 in! |

We could probably order that hub for you, but are you sure you don't want the best drum hub as opposed to the lightest? In the rain and the snow it's a great way to haul buttocks around a corner with the back wheel out sideways and one foot out moto style, hell you can even do it in the dry. This doesn't apply to fixes so much but as one of the SS reppers I'll say "Hat's off to skids, not just for trickin'" The wife made mention of why she didn't want to ride the bike I bought her all those years ago that my 15 year old now loves. The words 'maybe next year' came from her mouth,OMG could I be building an SWMBO bike? Pyze, that bike gives me wood. Lock it up. Would it be mechanically unsound to run cantis on an MTB that initially had/has V's on it? I love the drop bar on that puppy. |

I must disagree for the square, the skid is a very useful speed scrubber, and very handy when combined with a half lane carve. A good skid and release can get you around that back corner of a car you might not otherwise have made.

Thanks, the bike rocks. The tires are going to be replaced today, when I switched from the s/s I noticed the sidewalls beginning to split. Going to try and find some 1.5-1.75 slicks. I plan on using it as my riding bike, and keeping the green machine as my commuter/rain/snow/beater. The drops are great and IMO look better. Turned out to be a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I decided to go new parts for the most. The crank is great, I never realized the flex in the other one.
TJ, I went from v-brakes to canti's on my mtb and there was no poroblem. My experience though good v-brakes are better than cantis for stopping power. What bike are you swapping them on? Lots of new bikes in the T.O. BFFGSS theses days, duppy, Nerdsgirth (holy hot Gardins there guys), canice, Kergin and Op's capos. |

talked to marty from geekhouse the other day, as he has new photos on his site. he's starting to make some frames other than the pursuit geo. i really like the look of the curved seat tube. (+ triple triangle + pursuit?) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3198/...879390df65.jpg |
^^ sick.

Must admit that skipping is handy, especially when my legs are tired and I don't want to fully backpedal, just to scrub a bit of speed off. Balls to stem skids stop me remarkably fast considering, but I think that's because of the conti I have on the back - granted this technique IS just for show/l33t skillz ;) WHen I'm too lazy to switch hand position to get at my brake lever, skips just do the trick, but I have no 'cred' issue with using my brake either (my legs prefer it when I'm still warming up :)).
Sorry didn't recognise you at first glance with your coffee in hand this morning Keith, but hey anyway! Not sure about that pursuit (the pursuit geo just looks ouch to me ;)), but geekhouse makes some dandy bikes, that curve is pretty sexy. Nerdsgirth with the Gardin too?! where? pics? *scrolls back a few pages* |

^^Really nice!
So the postman brought me some NOS Campy Omega V hard anodized rims today. Would it be considered heresy to build a Nagasawa with full Campy components? Or should I build these rims up separately on Campy hubs for my Wilier, and build the Nagasawa with full DA? |

Whoa! How does one get involved in this fun looking group ride? Is this only for messengers or can anyone join?
Rides or sprints (usually rides these days) happen on Wednesday evenings, weather-permitting. |
Thanks for heads up on the ride. I'm on it.

Hey Guys, I have a connection for new Norco track framesets. They are going for $500 for Frame (alu)/Fork(carbon)/HS and Post. Tax is included. They are being shipped from Vancouver warehouse and there is the following sizes left: 3x54cm and 1x52cm. PM me if interested. I'll post pics/geom when I get a chance. If you google symmetrics it is the same bike they used, black and aero!

I'm thinking of heading to Albion tonight for the Tuesday night mtb race series. Room for 1 in my car. Anyone interested, PM. I'm not 100% going, however.

 I hear ya there. Follow the messengers around and see how a seated skid is applied in day to day riding on fixed. Not just for MASH vids. Pyze, I just noticed you kept the V in the front, and works well with the cross top lever? I've been told I'd not be able to run a road type lever and V's. hence the canti question. |

btw any a you guys carry durable one-finger type trials/bmx family of brake levers? i needs a pair. v-brakes, nothing real fancy-schmancy, but they gotta have oomph.

For anyone interested in trying out bike polo, we play every Tuesday at 9 PM at the hockey rink at Dundas and Bathurst (next to the little skatepark), and every Sunday at 4 PM at the hockey rink on the north east side of Trinity Bellwoods park.
There's usually a bunch of extra mallets and you don't want to ride a nice bike for it. Come out, it's a lot of fun. |
hmm some nice nice schtuff there Wes. I like the two pulley tensioner, might be just what I need.

Re: bike polo: I ran into Alexis (?), one of the Ottawa polo dudes, when I was there last weekend. Apparently we have the same taste in greasy spoon breakfasts! I think he was on my tournament winning team when we had the game going during the Island Crit last Summer. When we left and were headed downtown (to watch www.flugtag.ca) we went past the tournament that was happening.. saw a few Toronto peeps playing. I definitely need to get out for that again sometime.. Tuesdays have been my most common mtb night all Summer though, so it hasn't really worked out. Speaking of which.. off to pick up veteran_youth and head to Albion. |

http://www.paulcomp.com/crosslvrhorses.jpg You can get travel agents to run v-brakes with road levers, but runour has it they don't work that well. I went with canti's instead on the mtb. Just luck some guy was selling the Paul lever, actually had 2 of them, should have bought both. |
newbikenewbikenewbike. I sold my Cross-Check today, so I am one step closer to world domina... newbikenewbikenewbike!
Canice's Marinoni is super-snazzy in person. Today was a crazed blur of random TOFixed sightings. Hello, all! |
