anyone have leads on a cruiser-type/60s/70s tandem? my sister and her fiance's wedding gift -- why does it seem like every pair of married bike nerds wants one of these?

thanks! caniceleung @ gmail.com or PM.

i have 6 passes as it looks like i'm not going...... now where can I leave 'em for folks to pick up?

I_bRAD 10-16-08 05:46 PM

Leave them at the bike joint if you want.

Tofu is organizing a Halloween Alleycat. It will be epic with ton's of Halloween hi-jinx. It will NOT be advertised on Craigslist, but I am betting those who want to partake will not have a problem getting to the start line.

For anyone going to the show...feel free to stop by our booth and break up my monotony.

canice 10-16-08 06:17 PM

i'll take one of the passes, whereever they may end up being distributed...

32flavours 10-16-08 06:24 PM

Are those all spoken for, TJ?

~Stuart~ 10-16-08 07:23 PM

might be pushing it... ****

I've never been to the bike show, are there good deals to be had?

cavit8 10-16-08 08:43 PM

I scored some good lycra bibs for $50 per and a pair of shoes for cheapish. It helps to go with something specific in mind. As I have no cash to spare, I won't be going :(

jet sanchEz 10-16-08 08:48 PM

Heh, yeah, it is probably best I don't go either, I need bike parts like I need another hole in the head...

Yes and no. From what I recall it seems to be a mix of bargin bin hunting, and clearing out of old stock. Some great deals can be found.

Flimflam 10-16-08 08:49 PM

If there's a pass up for grabs I'm interested, I'll be heading over there anyway.

Caught a flat heading upto Victoria Park on Lawrence tonight, it ripped my tyre (again, on these cheapo Conti's ... again) so had to ride, or try and ride, gently with the fresh tube in and bulging out of the seam rip... it lasted until I got just about to the restaurant I was meeting my folks and brother-in-law at - going over a lip into the plaza (lasted from VP/Lawrence to Eg/Warden heh) was all it could take and *POP* it went. Sacrificed a tube knowing that it likely wouldn't hold and didn't have a bill to boot the tyre with. They were 'patchers' and will be patched again though, the holes in the tubes aren't so big. I could probably try and sew/patch the tyre in some way, but frankly I just can't be bothered for the $15 investment I got them for, the two I've had on the bike have done the best part of a bunch of my miles, so I can't really complain.

I've either got to start getting better tubes or tyres that don't rip on a blowout - the first, proper flat appeared to be a random blow - nothing in the tyre and no apparent penetration (hehehehehe) - just went boom.

Anyway, it's given me a chance to try out a Vittoria Rubino Pro that I got from PBK via les parents.

Oh, and carrying a socket wrench for wheel bolts == teh win.

Canice - check out CL bikes listing, there have been a couple of tandems recently listed.

tube penetrating is never good... but doing it on the street infront of people...classy

you could always try using a chocolate bar wrapper folded over a few times if you're in a.....pinch (ha!).

TRaffic Jammer 10-17-08 06:13 AM

The way today is looking, would someone be able to come to 1 yogne and grab 'em at some point today?

2wheelsgood 10-17-08 06:31 AM

I have the day off. I could pick 'em up and drop them off at the bike joint for others to grab.

I seem to recall you getting a pretty good deal on some rims a couple years ago. thanks to math and the weak human mind. :innocent:

I_bRAD 10-17-08 06:47 AM

Skiis and bikes (I think) has had rims 2fer for the past few shows. I got a pair of open pros there last fall.

TRaffic Jammer 10-17-08 07:15 AM

Damn , it's like some weird karma thingy, I am always tapped within a few days of the Bike Show. Oh well, no regrets. I got 6 passes! I will leave them at the Advertising Reception, 4th floor, 1 Yogne. Beware, they are attempting to pave the street in front of the office, I manged to sneak through the barriers (much to their chagrin), but Queen's Quay might be the better entrance. Gimme a bout a half and I'll have them out there for someone to pick-up with the other bike messenger envelopes and such. It will be addressed to The Bike Joint.

I_bRAD 10-17-08 07:18 AM

Have you written names on them so I know who to give them to? Or just first come first served?

For pickups- I'm heading out to the shop now... and I'll be there til 6. Tomorrow the shop is open 10-6, but you're gonna have to talk to Jerry as I won't be there.

As if we'll ever meet you... I think you're just a program running on someone's computer.

TRaffic Jammer 10-17-08 07:40 AM

I have written no names on them, let the Harbord Smackdown begin, I'm taking them to reception.......... now.

somnambulant 10-17-08 07:46 AM

Hey nerds. I'm having some wrist issues from mousing, and I was wondering if anyone has a trackball I could borrow to try out and see if it helps. Fanks.

2wheelsgood 10-17-08 08:02 AM

on my way...

2wheelsgood 10-17-08 09:08 AM

The tickets are now in the hands of brad.

TJ - Nice envelope, you must be swamped at work!
