Cafe Flore on Market St. has some good food and coffee as well. Come join us in the City on the Bay in anticipation of the Greatest Show on Earth, the SSWC! This unique opportunity allows you to mingle with the seedy underbelly of San Francisco's bicycling culture, and ride with them off road in the urban environ. This all starts at the legendary American Cyclery, SF's oldest bike shop and refuge to the cycling masses. We then ride mostly off road and across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin Headland for much social exuberance. -Meet and greet old and new friends from afar! -Size up the competition! -Determine who's most likely to make a drunken ass of themselves! -Demonstrate your intent to make a drunken ass of yourself! -BBQ foodstuffs in true 49er style! -Imbibe beverages of fortitude and refreshment! -Show your mettle in various Feats of Strength! -Win prizes of interest and useful nature! |

Sweet! La Bicicletta has a yellow one built up in the shop. It looks fantastic. I am still waffling about a year 1 (1975) red one in Montreal.
It could be risky to my marriage, though. I have a black Nagasawa on the way and am eying up a second one. I think the Marinoni could push my wife's patience a bit far. |
SRAMs website sucks, theres no search function! ARGH.
and this reminds me, SRAMs chain has split on me thrice already. *******s!!! |
Three times?!!? That's not just a design issue, the same chain?

That said, you're probably better off with pre-ground coffee rather than using a whirly-blade grinder.

Likely a side-effect of the derailleur, Ive had a lot of trouble with the Deore I bought. Again, due to many factors least of which being the way the Ironhorse's hangers bend at the slightest tap. I think this is its last season.. EDIT: after all that i guess what im saying is its not a design issue, its a lower-end chain that isnt meant to put up with the stresses I make it endure. |

Hey guys, does anyone know where I can rent a tandem bike? Or does anyone on the board have one I can rent?
I don't have a car but still want to pick someone up on a date... I thought it might be fun. |
Theres a very nice tandem up for sale on craigs, 275. I considered it briefly, then recalled I am an apartment dweller, and my stoker is reluctant.

Yep, its a PC-870 1/2" by 1/32" chain. I ripped it in half once on a climb, removed about two links, and reattached it with a suitable replacement pin. Then it died again in a different place, same idea, uphill, and was similarly patched. Then it died again, throwing me off a cliff and I ripped off my ghost-shifting deore and re-rigged the bike SS ghetto-fab style with a KMC singlespeed chain I had kicking around. The SRAM chain will likely decorate something someday, but Im never putting one on a bike again. NEVER had a KMC split on me, no matter the force I subjected it to.

Even the $7 SRAM PC-48 doesn't break like this. |

(btw I so know the second and third failures were my fault, but I didnt get paid till today (pinning = bandaid solution, 11 dollar chain, i wasnt in the mood to go buy masterlinks), I might be a moron but I know my way around a drivetrain) |

If the Charlie ride happens while I'm out of town (Aug 22-Sept 2) can I take a picture of myself and have one of you guys tape me to your handlebars or something? It'll be like I'm there for reals!
|
with front brake, does one ever really need to skid? and i think b@stard is too, you never know when you need to refer to one of King Henrys children.
and i think ive decided, next build will be fixed with a front drum brake and at least for the winter, fenders. Im taking a shot at building a completely weatherproof bike that will need nothing but chain and headset maintenance for at least two years of year-round riding. how this will turn out is another question. |
yes indeed - nice ride there pyzer. did you pick up that surly fork at the bike show? i remember eyeing a green 1x1 frame for some reason...
as for the coffee debate: i use a mocha pot and a whirley-spice-grinder-thing to grind the beans and no complaints. i know a burr grinder would probably extract more flavour, etc but in my opinion it'll taste great so long as the beans are freshly roasted and ground just before brewing. for beans i'm an i deal man (which has nothing at all to do with the attractive serving staff...) |
seriously, shop guys, anybody carry sturmey archer stuff, or can order it? im looking for the XFD drum hub, apparently QBP distributes it, if that means anything to anyone... it seems to be the lightest drum hub I could find, and it supposedly comes in black too.
just asking here, otherwise i will come to each and every one of your shops and ask in person, then spend about an hour wandering around asking questions about stuff and telling you stories and talking about stuff I wanna do to my bikes, and generally waste your time :D. ask keith and the CS guys, im good at it. |

Looks great pyze, really like the colour offset the fork gives - and the drops look really nice on there.
Nice and clean! yeah! Another late night for me and so I wussed it and took the train all the way to GO Exhibition tonight, bah. Charlie ride last I heard was going to be on/around the 27th, Wil/Ryan are putting it together IIRC perhaps they can chime in. |
i chased a guy tonight, wanted to see if i could keep up on my misfit. apparently i could and it scared this guy (he was on a fixed gear)... something to do with my manic spinning (1.77:1)...
if your on here "I won" and "fix your chain tension" |
