gore-tex and full-fendered rain-bike (and hyphens) ftw!
Som, we need to hit trail sometime, once i figure out what to do with my mountainbike. |
I was planning on not mounting the fenders at all on the Rob Roy until fall, it looks as though I'll need to though - April showers showing no rest. Turds. Happy camper I decided to throw on the (albeit ripped) rain pants though, I often am too lazy and just throw the jacket on and regret it eventually.
Will do jer, I'll see him tonight/tomorrow. |
My foul-weather bike is my only fixed gear bike, actually. :) Sweet, sweet Planet Bike Cascadia fenders... integrated mudflap ftw.
I'm in the Don several times a week when the conditions are appropriate. Always up for a ride. Plus the DSR "Singletrack Rollers" rides will be starting on Tuesday nights in a couple weeks I would imagine (assuming the weather cooperates). |

i like having the bike absolutely spartan on nice days, but fenders would be nice in rain... why am i so picky |
Yeah good call Wes - I got the new Cascadia fenders for the IRO, my MTB has the older freddy hardcore MTB style on - still with the mudflap, but the smaller not-so effective one. cavernmech is the reason I've been hoarding an old detergent bottle to tack on some extra flap onto them all - great idea for almost perfect coverage (in my experience they've kicked ass)
I should try and get a freewheel for my flip/flop - how easy/quick/advised is it to swap chainrings out? I'm thinking running 46T in the front for SS offroad might be a bit tall, or be a pain in the ass to deal with say a 22 in the back for chain length, I guess my question is: best to change a chain or chainring when switching to SS from my FG side? |
those fenders look nice
my freddy's didn't really survive the winter, they did their job, but when it came time to clean it up after winter some of the hardware broke and/or striped will pick up a pair most likely having a bad weather bike with full fenders is a big motivation for willing to ride through just about anything |
If anyone in here is interested, I have a couple of parts to get rid of that I'm willing to give away to someone local. I have a set of 26.0 Easton EC90 Equipe drop bars that are new. I also have a single TRP carbon cross type brake lever with a hinged 31.8mm clamp. This is the RH lever, although in a pinch it could be used on either side. I had to buy 2 to get the left one I am using. I live in the east end, but haunt La Bicicletta most Saturday afternoons (3 builds I/P).
edit: I also have a pair of Cane Creek TT type carbon brake levers that of course also work on bullhorns. |
The fact that I have a knee-shaped chunk of ice already in a zip-loc baggie in my fridge is probably a sign that I need to step up my game.

They're the 200TT model, so according to Cane Creek, they weigh 136g per pair.

Yeah, i'm not interested in advertised weight.
edit: I just dug around and found a Campy Record 1" threaded headset in mint condition (circa 2005). Free for the taking. |
funny thought about weight, mostly for road purposes...
the aerodynamic benefit of removing a pencil-sized object from the bike is approximately equal to removing a pound of weight. how accurate that is, i dunno, but i think it caught my eye on Sheldon Browns site a while back, may he cycle in peace |

Where are you finding all this awesome stuff to give away? When I lived in Whistler and Vancouver about 10 or so years ago, I started to upgrade and rebuild my bike almost annually. I now have 4 bikes, 3 of which are currently being rebuilt. I have to purge the parts bin once in a while, or I run out of room. |
i'm interested in those bars.
i'll shoot you a pm. |
Man those carbon base bars for $100 look mighty tempting.
|
Hey Shapelike, Mag21s on ebay
http://tinyurl.com/6kpq6d I paid $75 for mine on CL as a reference point. |

Ugh, ugly ride home from catering tonight. Glad I took the rain bike. Need a mudflap on the front fender. Rainsuit kept me nice and dry, except for the 1" between my shoes and pants. My socks have a nice black ring around the ankle now. Good thing I wore wool, kept the toes nice and warm.
Thats a nice bike^. |

Welcome to scouring viewit.ca and craigslist ALL DAY LONG for a month or two. We literally sent out emails daily for a couple of months and saw close to 10 places. Beware the "two bedroom" that's actually a one bedroom with no living room.

we've been doing the viewit scouring for a while now, have seen some hell holes, some nice places that practically ask you for a blood sample on the application. actually had one place all lined up and the landlord pulled a fast one. i thought it couldn't hurt to get the friend connection...
