i have no qualms about paying more; we're living in a "cheap" place now and you get what you pay for. the big frustration for us has been the hoops landlords make you leap through for the privelage of handing them over 40% of your paycheque every month. personally, i think prospective tenants should be able to check a landlord's references.

jeremywhitehorn 04-11-08 10:54 PM

all this talk of shpants yesterday just reminded me of something: swrve cycling has their current stock knickers on for $75 which is pretty reasonable when you compare it some of the other cycling-specific short-panties out there. just ordered a pair, i'll report back when i get them if anyone's interested.

veteran_youth 04-11-08 11:02 PM

I got new swag too!

I didn't want to post this until it was an SS, which it is now. Well, dingle, MAGIC GEAR dingle at that. (BTW I need to find a chain with the perfect amount of wear to make it work well)

And new shoes, too. SS racing destroyed my Sidi's. Cracked the rib that runs between the cleat bolts. These were a SICK deal on clearout from some online place. Got 2 PURRRRRRRRRZ, bahds.

where did you pick those shoes up? i'm looking to replace a pair of too-small specializedssss.

nice build- if you can't find the perfect gear, why not try the floating chainring technique?

veteran_youth 04-11-08 11:08 PM

Oh yeah forgot to mention I have a pair of Mag 21s (1995, 1 1/8th threadless/cromo) in good working condition (well, for a Mag 21 anyway) that are up for grabs, like, FREE!

So what's the SF weigh, like 4lbs? Nice bike!

I did a bad, bad thing yesterday:

It's probably for the better, as my Jamis was a wee bit too small. Anyone want to buy a 2007 Jamis Sputnik (53cm) for $500?

*sigh*

I had thought the bike would be in (around the time you called), but then at the last minute the bike was coming from B.C. and I figured it wasn't meant to be. I made plans w/ the gf instead to do a ride ... and then the bike came in on Friday afternoon. Either way I'm going to be "that guy" now, so the bottom line is that no, I won't be at the Icebreaker tomorrow. I feel like a ****** bailing on it after all the lead-up, but I'd feel like more of a ****** canceling my ride plans w/ the gf because she's looking forward to that and won't go out on a long ride if it's just her.

I will be out at P-A next weekend though, and then feeding myself to the wolves (see above Gary Fisher) in this year's XC singlespeed category.

What, did everyone get a new bike this week?

Herbie_Glick 04-12-08 01:30 PM

How is it that nobody has commented on the googly-eyes glued to the front of the superfly yet?

somnambulant 04-12-08 01:34 PM

because we're all jealous of not doing it first

It looks very good - please remove the warning sticker. ;)

speaking of new bikes, I got one yesterday. Ok, it's used, but it's new to me. The guy at Keel and Annette (used to have like 300 bikes, now is clearing it all out) sold me a yellow Riviera road racer for 60$-- I'll be using it as my commuter/do-everything bike when I'm afraid my new JTS will get stolen. I brought it into The Bike Place (somewhere on Dundas W.) to get a tune-up, new tires (edit), handlebar tape, and some pedals. I'll post pics when I pick the bike up on friday. Only problem is, it's got friction DT shifters, and I've never used DT shifters before, let alone friction shifters (I'm hoping I don't die).

Also picked up some shoes from Sweet Pete's (never used clipless before)

Now just to find some good CX/commuting pedals and I'm all set.

DOH! So jealous of everyone getting their new toys while I still wait for mine to make it across the stupid US border. Hope I get it before I head off to SF for a week and a half. At least the Don should be in perfect shape once I get back at the end of the month. Enjoy those new rides everyone.

There's a couple of co-operatives in that area, Dufferin Grove for one, with open waiting lists. Turnaround can be pretty quick in some cases.

And you can search for by-law violations here http://app.toronto.ca/ApartmentStand...do?action=init

but I don't think "Being a prick" is a by-law violation, though arguably it should be.

I went to the indoor bike riding thing that clipin was talking about. Wes showed up but was injured. It was a great ride. It's neat to ride with people in a spinning studio and know how good you're doing compared to them. I got all the nerdy information and realized taking the winter off riding makes it harder to compete with those who don't!

nerdsgirth 04-12-08 05:31 PM

Going to Boston on Mon!

Wes game me a Swobo box that contained mike's bia ch :) . FYI It measures l+w+h =238. I am registered with Air Canada for bike freight which is an extra $50 each way. The max size box they allow for a bike is 203 cm. Are all cardboard bike boxes the same size? I guess I am going to modify it to please the man (although I don't want to compromise its *amazing* structural integrity).

If you don't care about your bike you can put it in a big plastic bag and sign off on liability. :o

Also... Bruins stink Habs rule!

nerdsgirth 04-12-08 05:32 PM

Mike can I change my sig yet?

I_bRAD 04-12-08 05:55 PM

No new bike for me, but I did get some new panniers. Big ones for groceries and touring (carried 85lbs of groceries home from the supermarket last night!) and a smaller waterproof one for the commute.

Have fun at the icebreaker you guys!

Nice nice.

Hey, only i'm allowed to have a red bike here! Nice cannondale man. That would've been what i'd buy if I was in the market for a new frame. That paint scheme is ridiculously nice. Where'd you buy it? Don't sell your sputnik, use it as a beater.

Thanks again to krusty for the campy headset.

You're most welcome. The parts are slowly disappearing from the basement, and my wife thinks they're all being sold, so I'm allowed to buy new ones. Three current builds requires a lot of parts.
