Awesome, sounds ideal (damn those early starts though ;)) - I think I might at least hit up the Lake Wilcox run tomorrow, I've been meaning to go back up there since last summer. Are you going? I'm not riding the Friends for Life ride, does that even matter for these?

Passed 1000km this morning, that's 3 weeks and one day of riding the Rob Roy. Decided that was a good milestone to properly clean/lube the chain :) Still need new pads though, gah.

Great link there Cam, I sent that one over to my Dad - he'll appreciate that :)

Early finish in Whitby this afternoon = taking those tailwinds to full advantage for heading west methinks, was brutal going east this morning at times.

No? Just wear a helmet, bring food/tools and don't ride like a ****** - a lot of the people in the group will be novice cyclists and spook easy. That being said, a lot of people in the group will be experienced riders who are great to ride all day with. Overall it's a really friendly bunch and you should be able to find some people to ride with at whatever pace you find comfortable.

also, should we have a wheel building party soon?

Our Canadian homeboy Svein Tuft is kicking ass and taking names at the Pan-Am Road and Track Championships right now.

He was doing track racing in the velodrome in Uruguay earlier this week: he got gold in the individual pursuit race on Monday, the points race on tuesday, and then the Madison race on Wednesday.

Then the road races started today, and he got gold in the individual time trial!

His new riding system is unstoppable! [/fairly obscure internets reference]

Speaking of madison racing, this video from Forest City still boggles my mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxOoflyZnLQ

That would be a bylaw infraction rather than a HTA infraction I think. Also, since speedometers are not legally mandated equipment (like they are on cars) how would you know you were going over 20? I don't think they could ever get a conviction on that if you took it to court. As an aside, I love how when you're riding along the lakeshore trail through Ajax there's a list of bylaws posted along the trail one of which being "no obnoxious or annoying behaviour" I'd rather get a ticket for that than for speeding! :p

As far as an actual speeding ticket goes, the law is "operating a motor vehicle in excess of the limit" or something along those lines, the key word obviously being "motor" Anyhoo, are they gonna take away your bike license?

Highly recommended - I enjoyed the class a lot... even if I wasn't the best student.

Ugh. I'll have to remember that when I head out there next month.

When are you heading to Vancouver?

I'll be there around the last week of May and the first week of June depending how long it takes to get up the west coast.

somnambulant 05-09-08 07:49 PM

You have a bike with you? :)

I'm not going to build a wheel, but I'd like to learn how to true one. Are there clinics on that?
