I think he did, i think he was just trying to be an first class asshat

Dunno if everyone's seen this yet, but it's quite a scene from Giro stage 5.. David Millar broke his chain setting up for the final sprint + teaches his naughty bike a lesson:

OUCH. That's gotta suck after riding 230km.

kylehutton 05-16-08 01:35 PM

does anyone have any spacers kicking around to keep the drop outs from getting crushed when packing a frame?

LordFoo 05-16-08 01:35 PM

I tried joining the DSR facebook group but wasn't able to (even with Toronto, ON network membership).. any thoughts?

Also -- just heard about this for the first time today -- anyone here racing in the St. Lawrence Market Crit on May 30?

Score. Gettin' sent home early. Short Friday on a long weekend FTW.

If anyone's around for a coffee, give me a ring. If I hadn't destroyed myself in the Don (and sprints) last night I'd be in there again. D'oh!

TRaffic Jammer 05-16-08 01:57 PM

see the roadie guy in the video ...dude tosses his ride over the barrier I'm on it like a kid on a smartie.
Man that sucks so bad!!! I'd be pissed too.

I'm helping with throwing live obstacles onto the course....small dogs, kids, the elderly, keeps the crits fresh and gory. jk'n of course I'd never throw an old person. But yes working the race. Should be some awesome photo ops ..get early and pick your spot.

EVIL DEAD the Musical ...here I come!!!

Crap, wouldn't you know it - this is exactly my size. Right after I finish building 3 new bikes with a 4th one on the way soon. I've always liked this model.

Any thoughts on day trips? (non bike related unfortunately) Anyone had a unique local roadtrip experience lately? The lady and I are itching to get out of the city. Thanks!

On the way back from Ottawa we stopped in Almonte (home of James Naismith!) beautiful little town.

How local?

jeremywhitehorn 05-16-08 07:45 PM

hey you cross guys - what rims are you running on your wheels? can you use 29er rims for tires 32-36?

Planet-X = Open Pros
Roger = WTB SX24 29er rims (24mm wide).

~Stuart~ 05-16-08 08:56 PM

so that means a 29" wheel is actually the same sized rim as a 700c?

i had heard someone say that was right, but when i asked in dukes the guy said i was way wrong "because the rim is 29"s not 700mm's.... (but a 700cc rim is actually 622mm isnt it? and the 29" is including the tires?)

The guy in Dukes is a clown. 29er and 700c are both 622. Lots of guys run narrow road rims on their 29er's. Only with the biggest tires can you run into a problem. I like my rim a little wider as it helps get the tread on the dirt. Cross tires are 622 X 35c....my 29er tires are 622 X 54 & 622 X 60.

jeremywhitehorn 05-16-08 09:32 PM

yeah i realize they are the same diameter, but i was curious about issues with wider tires on narrow rims. i always thought it would be a problem to run 38mm tires on 19mm rims - it would seem the tire would "baloon" out the side too much and increase the chance of pinch flats. maybe that's just speculation. although i can see how a wider rim would allow the tire to run more squarely to the surface.
the idea is i want to have a flip flop wheel made for a dirt bike on a cross frame that wouldn't see any serious singletrack but i'd still like to run a 32-36mm tire. i'm guessing from the comments you've all made that this isn't an issue with a skinny (16-19mm rim)?

edit - what then is the width of your typical 29er/cross rim.

awesome that makes much more sense to me now. thanks.

one last question. if you had to run a tube other then a 29" one would you prefer to run a 26" tube or a 700cc 28-35?

just kind of random

jeremywhitehorn 05-16-08 10:32 PM

don't think you could put a 26 tube on a 29 rim anyway. you can always just keep inflating a skinny 700c tube until it's inflated as you like...

Either or will work, mounting the tire will be easier with the 700c tube, though.

BTW ran 2.1" Schwable 29er tires on Open Pros for a season without issue. Well, I actually blew the tire off once, but I was doing something REALLY stupid.
