I left the ride from the start, just figured I'd swing by as I was crossing town - was sweet to see that GT in it's rightful owners hands - nice job again Matt, et. al
Lots of police presence tonight on Danforth around Greenwood to Pape, the TAV unit guys were out hunting for someone I figure (lots of TAV cars, not so many 54).
ps, Burrito Boyz for the win.

I remember reading here on this thread about a year ago about the viet coffee maker from Tap Phong for $5. and today I made good on that suggestion and picked it up. Thanks.
I also ended up going to SASMART at the north side of the park in kensington market to get the classic italian stovetop Bialetti coffee maker. They had a china made cheaper version as well.
one question for the coffee-philes. Just wondering why the term espresso is sometimes used to describe what I know as coffee. Like the coffee maker I bought today is called an espresso maker.
Whats the difference between espresso and coffee anyhow? is it that espresso is boiled down and more concentrated than a regular cup of coffee?
**nvm. I just spent some time on wikipedia.**

thanks for the heads up on the b-17s fellas. i ended up buying a flyer from urbane as i wanted something with springs. even with all the promo codes from nashbar and such it's not that much cheaper (about $100 local). i have to say i don't like all this popularity the brooks saddles are getting, think the prices are going up as a result. i bought my first one five years ago for something like $50 brand new and have bought them for as little as $30 on used on ebay back in the day. still worth the full price though.

hm, what's going on in july, bike-wise?....there's always local races and rides. we'll do some brainstorming, so keep your eyes peeled here.
as for hostels, the only reputable one i know of is the Global backpackers hostel at king and spadina.

Did I say I loved my helmet cam? Riding down the yellow line on Yogne from Bloor to work, this guy tries to punch me.Epic fail and most likely would have broken his arm had he connected, you know physics and all that. BUT I do have his plate on video. Assault anyone?

whats with bikes being so expensive in europe? like comeon, bianchis are italian, why are they so much more here????

North America is seemingly *really* cheap for just about everything. It might be that. Good luck over there too Stuart, take care and have fun
Hah Matt, haven't been to Big Fat Burrito that often, though I should now I basically go by there on my College route home... It was definitely good eats, though - I'm just a stickler for BB

I also saw on CP24 that a 57 year old cyclist was killed yesterday... he got doored, flew into traffic and was hit by a truck.
*sigh* Sorry for the sadness on a Friday morning!
Word. I go to BFB more often, and the experience is usually much more pleasant, but I find the food significantly better at BBz. That said, I also love the yam burrito at BFB.

I love the language The Star used in reporting the story - Cyclist dies after hitting opening car door.

I agree, the first paragraph makes a little more sense but the second makes it seem as if rode into a parked car.
I sent the article to some people I work with and if you don't ride often I guess it's hard to figure out exactly what happened.

Hmm, didn't realise there was a meeting last night for the Bike Union, do-oh. I'm kinda flaking out on it a bit, but have been involved with their management team stuff - my time and personal life have been all over the radar these past few weeks, heh.
I hate the way the press writes sometimes, we need to have less bias in the media even just to try and even the perception of cyclists - this kind of thing, especially when the poor guy was killed from nothing more than a 2 second lapse of attention - implied manslaughter through the door opening is more appropriate IMO (I hope to hell that person gets the $110+2 pt. fine at the very LEAST).
edit: Nice TJ - thanks for trying.
I was following a couple of people this morning on College, and they pulled up ahead of me at a light, then blew through College/Augusta (Eastbound, crossing the intersecting road) - granted I blow this light sometimes too, but when there are peds/cars-a-plenty it's a bit more of a push - I definitely saw this from a "stupid cyclists!" perspective though, which makes me a massive hypocrit as I frequently roll stops/reds especially in low traffic situations - aieeee the conflict!
Pedestrians have to be my worst foe still, one of my recent pet peeves is them crowding the road before the streetcar even arrives at the stop. I had a yelling match with a driver over this one day, as I went through and he figured I'd ran the door/stops. I told him "that streetcar was still moving when I passed it, those doors aren't a stop sign until they open up, dude". Bah. TGIF.
Also, bit of fun for the weekend: https://www.bellsonbloor.ca (Sunday) - Saturday is 1000 bells at Yonge/Dundas for the Green festival or something (12 noon). Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington too, IIRC.

I do.... laddies... for the context of my email to this reporter... has ANYONE heard of a parking driver EVER opening their door and door prizing a car? Even on a really skinny street?
