it's cool that they updated their 1997 site, but they didn't have to go all 1998 on us

It's a two strap thingy that wraps around the bits/spines/vents on the helmet, and then attaches to itself. Pretty strong, the site has a frame mount for sale now but I've already created a frame mount for myself, fork footage is much nicer IMHO as you get a much better sensation of the speed as the camera gets lower. They have a 'coming soon' wide angle case for the camera as well I'm anxious to try. I'll be working on learning the video software, once I can figure out which app I want to use. Damn so many options. I'll be posting up some more this week all being tests of compression/passes etc.... looking for that nice middle ground between file size and quality. Any suggestions for MAC based video editing?

Anyone know the dimensions of a bike box (like the cardboard)?
I went into a bike shop today and they guy was a prick. When I asked about bikes he talked to me like I was ********. So I asked him about some single speeds he had, he had no track bikes, then I asked him if he had any bikes I could convert (like crappy beat up bikes) he said "I only have vertical dropouts on the frames here", and point out the one single speed he has in the store, and tell him it has vertical dropouts. Then i found a nice bike with a eccentric bottom bracket, but with gears, and when i asked what it would cost as a single speed he told me it wouldn't work because of the vertical dropouts. The thing that annoyed me was the fact he talked to me like I was an idiot looking for a single speed, or a fixed gear (I have yet to see anything remotely close to a hill). Im just disappointed that bikes are so expensive.

With the exception of some of Europe's messengers, has the whole FG/SS thing crossed the pond? I think maybe Euros being so entrenched in cycling, the trends we see here aren't so prevalent over there.
Zion was telling me thta when he was in Barcelona people were freaked by a Fixie rider passing cars. Others just rode the paths but he was bombing with traffic.

I got an early 80s panasonic for 30$ at parts unknown. I was able to put 700x30c with fenders on it, with longish reach brakes. An older MTB would be good too clearance wise, that's my winter beater. Not very sexy though.

I'm not giving any spoilers here, I learned that lesson, but is it just me or is the Giro leaders jersey a little too high fashion (read pink) for the average rider? You see people wearing yellow or orange, but that pink...boy oh boy.

Nice, TJ - I'll have to see what I can do about a fork mount, though it seems nice on the TT near the head tube I think fork for that speed sensation would be sweet. I'm no Mactard or videophile, but Final Cut Pro / Adobe Aftereffects are names I heard banded around when I was working with/around Macs. Can you get Adobe Premiere for the Mac? I've been told that's pretty decent software too. I've a PC at home, I use ULead Video Studio Plus for my stuff, it's not terribly comprehensive, but it was cheap and I could handle it (Premiere looked very scary to me
)

I wonder who he was riding with? The two dudes that I was riding with in Barca where pretty gnarly - pulled a lot of stuff in traffic that I would be hesitant to do here, much less there!

In Barcelona, for example, there are maybe 20 people or so. Very few people even on road bikes, most people tend to ride cruisers, folders, MTB, etc.
Throughout Italy - I don't think that we saw a single ss/fixed gear road bike at all.

I have Final cut and after effects, though I've not used them yet. A bit on the pro side for my amateur dabbling at this point, though I suppose I'll not want to get to comfy with iMovie before finding where it lacks, and then being required to move on.
I have some fork and headtube footage at home on the external HD.

My grandfather asked me if I was riding a fixed gear when he first saw me on my bike on his visit, as those are the bikes he ran/grew up with back in the day I guess.

I haven't seen any bike messengers here, scooters seem to rule the roads here (red lights stand for 'go' here, along with yellow and green)
Other cities might be different, I have only been to Milan so far. I know its pretty big in London England.
Keith, Can you let me know when you'll be free this week for me to test ride the kona?

Helmetcam TEST video upload. Too bouncy on helmet it seems .. bike mounted seems steadier.

Also, is anyone going to watch the crit by St.Lawrence market on the 30th? Apparently there's going to be a 'bike expo' + some intense racing.

Will be there indeed. Yea the punch was pretty lame, I'm not sure how far he thought he was going to extend from his seated position. More of a human oddity than a threat.

I've never seen cycle road racing up close and personal before, so I'm definitely interested in checking it out. I'm planning to go to at least the start of Critical Mass, so I'll peel off the pack afterwards.
very OT, iherald - if by chance you work in family law, can I shoot you a PM?

part of the course is market street ... that little street to the west of the St Laurence Market, depending on the direction of the race that's gonna be a hairy turn or two for the pro/elites

I use Audacity for waveform editing. I used to use Garageband for recording, but now use Logic. Audacity should be perfect if you're just trimming/stretching/etc waveforms (i.e. not working with multi-channel audio, etc).
