They did a great job on the waterfront trail from Port Union. When it all finally gets connected across the Bluffs years from now it will be a fantastic trip downtown. I live up near the top of Port Union, and find this area to be excellent for relaxing rides. Even going north from here to the area beyond the zoo towards Hwy 7 is easy and relatively traffic free.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, Kensington is totally where it's at for sunglasses. The pair I buy (Big Elvis Glasses) cost me 4.50 or something so I don't even mind that I'm on my 5th pair of the summer.

PM me and they are yours, also Cyclesolutions was having a tire blowout last I was there, some decent offerings.

And yeah thats hella obvious. But I didnt think of it, so thanks

re:cross: My trail rig has turned into a monster, but Im feeling pretty game this season. Unfortunately I work nights a lot so I may be deuced on the practise sessions. However you all know I drop a line before I head out, so for you schedule challenged, we can form a random group and iron some stuff out/teach each other stuff. How far does the path go? i've ridden that path with my little sister, it's like 50 feet from my parents house ... does it end around the sewage plant still? i thought that's where it ended, but if it's longer that's sweet

Yes, it still ends there, but it's easy to hook up on some back roads to Guildwood, or just take the Highland Creek trail, if the bridge is fixed yet. Or, you can go the other way down Lawrence to the Rouge Beach park, then take the bridge into Pickering and ride the conservation area.

You totally should.. it's a great atmosphere/vibe. Just pick up a set of CX tires. The Schwalbe Racing Ralphs are supposed to be great (I have a set but haven't mounted them yet), and I had a great time on the Michelin Mud2's last year in all conditions.

I ran 23c slicks all last Winter with no probs. Narrow tires are great in the snow... I found my mtb was a total handful in the snow since the tires tended to just float on top of the snow rather than cutting through to the pavement below.

Analogy to auto-racing... the tires they use in the Swedish Rally look totally ******** they're so narrow, but it's the same idea of cutting through vs. floating on top:

OT: in addition to the free five channel digital answering machine, 0.9 gHz phones w/ 2 handsets that I posted earlier, I also have a 56k USR external (hardware) fax modem (model=326589-03). Anyone wants anything give me a shout. It's a Mac analog modem but should work with 'nix as well. I went to dry dsl, so I have no active phone line for it to use.

From the DSR message:

"It is hard to beleive it has been a year since Charlie passed and there has been a lot of talk for another ride for him. As most of you are aware August is a crazy month for the bike crowd. Benway and I have talked and think that maybe the end of the month would be a good option? If you have any ideas. I was thinking Thursday August 28th. That would allow the people that are going to the NACCs to still attend before they left for Chicago. We will have flyers printed and sent out asap."

Awesome dude. I'm gonna take a look around at some tire options and depending on what I find I'll give you a shout. Really appreciate it

No way, I ride past that park all the time. My girlfriend is at College and Ossington and I take Harbord across several times a week. If I see some guy drowning in mud I'll stop and say hi, haha.

And yeah, having had some time to think about it at work, I definately will be coming out come september. It'll be a good way to not get fat and lazy during the off season and it just looks like alot of fun.

^^ cool concept with the slicks eh? thats why fixed are traditiional winter bikes, and a nice fixed with 23c slicks is an essential part of the stable.

my chain blew off, sending me and my bike off a cliff today. i hate shimano deore SO much. and now part of my goddamn thumb is broken. no dirt for two days, ill see how I can handle the drops with this peice of **** digit, if that fails, then its off bike for a good few days :@

i think this bike is going single speed, this frame eats derailleurs and hangers, and frankly, its not worth the greif.

I ride on 20s all year round. They really cut through the snow, I was pretty surprised that it worked but someone at Urbane told me this years ago and I never looked back. I also run really thin knobbies on my mountain bike during the winter.

I found it goes even further than this - skinny tires with a fixed gear was the most stable thing I've ridden all winter. The road condition feedback you get with a fixed wheel just can't be beat.

These days, whenever I have to ride my road bike around the city - or anything which allows for coasting - I'm startled at my own surprise of the seeming lack of control. Fixed gear simply owns when it comes to controlling speed...
