My guess is that "unknown reasons" = coming off the don/lakeshore end of the lakeshore trail, and heading across Parliament to cut through the Distillery for the best direct commuter route to downtown via Esplanade. I used to use the MUP to head downtown along the Lakeshore, as much as I hate admitting it, I had resorted to following the sidewalk through the rail overpass as visibility down there is horrible.

Note - this is an example of poorly planned "bike routes".. that MUP ends fairly abruptly at Cherry (unless you take the windy southern route that requires crossing Lakeshore Blvd and back), and the closest suggested "bike route" (labelled as 6 on the Toronto Cycling Map) goes onto a sidewalk through a park!

Having said all that -- I hope the cyclist in question is ok + heals quickly.

It's evil down there at Cherry ... last couple days I've homeward that way riding on Lakeshore then wrong way on the parli/LS to go to the eastward path. Word to terrible design

Why not go back to Unwin? I think the bridge is still closed to traffic, making it a quiet / low traffic straightaway?

I was over there on the weekend - the road is pretty rough after the winter. I think that combined with the lack of light makes it less than ideal.

I prefer the Tour de Donut, where you get a 5 minute bonus for each donut you consume. Check out last year's results -- someone in Men's under 50 managed to eat 27 donuts, for a finish time of 13 minutes and change.. ugh!

Bacon > Donuts. I don't think I could eat many sweet donuts during a race. Someone handed me one of Brianna's chocolate cupcakes during the New Year's Eve cyclocross race and it nearly killed me.

Yeah, no light there at night... maybe if we are persistent enough, the po po could give us some helicopter surveillance. I could picture that... People drop out of the spotlight as the leader breaks ahead!

Wabash is a good street but it is not super long, just about a block. I have never been to the DSR, how much room do you need? Wabash runs between two parks just off of Sorauren so it is relatively quiet.

hey flimflam sorry about the delayed response, but nice to see you at bells on bloor also. too bad about the police "escort"...

i got a couple of good photos from the event, but haven't had time to put them on flikr.

and TJ also a delayed response, but i participated in an interview with a toronto star reporter on monday. one of my clients has had a less than positive experience with media exposure the last couple weeks. amazing how journalists can twist words.

i saw pinball clements and toby this afternoon while i was doing errands. they both said hello to me. i feel so special.

glad to know the driver was safe in her steel cage from all that dangerous skin she hit this morning. /bitter

Having a tire @ 110psi blow off the rim while it's between your legs as you adjust your saddle? Not very cool.

*ringing ears*

Thank goodness I was wearing jeans AND that the blowout happened near the floor, not near The Goods.

Whew, what a long day. Up at 5 to get to a 7 AM catering at the distillery for a fashion shoot for Richard Gere. And no I did not ask him about small rodents. A very long boring day. Silly company sends me no egg whites for omelets, and of course he wants one. Had to run around the Distillery to find a restaurant open to get some. Oh well.

Now I am tired. Long ride home from Bathurst/Wilson at 5pm. Sucks coming getting to and from that part of the city. Might have the energy to do the group ride tonight but I doubt it. On the plus side I should be able to do the dsr dirt ride next week as my shoulder is almost back to normal.

Working late, no DSR for me.

Be sure to post the link when you do, zippered - the turnout was just staggering to me, despite the one cops bad 'tude (he was in a grouch, I chatted to him at Bloor/Ave where he then called my buddy a dick for stopping pedestrians about to get hit by the pack *sigh*)

Hope the rider from above accident is OK, I'm well acquainted with the crap layout of that area, too *sigh*

Ouch Wes, freak blowout?

Good to hear you're getting back to health Pyze!

Holy crap, I thought I saw a dude who looked just like Richard Gere on my commute home, and now I suspect that it actually WAS him!

Today was a really nice day for riding.

I *think* I saw that bike come out of our shop a week or two ago. With untaped ritchey bars just like the one in the vid. Man...
