actually, today before work I went into eaton centre to line up at that new apple/ipod shop to pick up a free apple t-shirt. (I've been wearing the same t-shirts from gr. 8 and the only way I get new ones are birthdays and freebies)
anyways, I ended up being late for work and also ending up w/ an awful t-shirt that said EATON CENTRE w/ the apple logo.

I should went training ride grr...

That's like. 5km up and a nice 5% 1.3km hill just before hitting it up to teh lake. My favourite short baseline TT ride destination.

But then 30km to finch station and back + about 12 extra for the lake wilcox. Probably around 42km unless you do some roundabout ways... and stuff.

I'm too^H^H^H good for 54km.

PS The notes on the ride maps is jokes. (e.g. NOTE: There are very few variety stores in
the countryside – ensure that you are stocked

anyone still interested in riding tomorrow? i was going to stop at jet fuel first to round up any potential riders but i think i'm going to hang around the house a bit with the wife and the dog and just do it solo later in the morning. enjoy your day all.

how was the jet fuel show? who won that bag? since no one called me i know who it wasn't...

PS - i have pink bike all built up but it need tweaking, perhaps a new headset.

Some dave.. guy I think. He wasn't at teh show. Man that bag was sweet. $235!! The show was cool with some snacks. Two homeless dudes just strolled in took some food and left (hilarious).

I'm the only person I've seen on fixed so far.

There's usually around maybe 50 people (I'm guessing) and the pace is anywhere between "as slow as they come" and "we out-gear the fixie guy".. :) The pack stretches out and breaks into little groups almost immediately.

Thanks for coming guys! It was fun! That's the largest number of people from the interweb I ever met! We were afraid that it would be a lot of people and I'd be serving all night while Anais would be talking all night (she reclusive like me), but since I totally didn't do a flyer it was a small friendly crowd. Hey Ben you still over there in the Japan? lucky dude!

Looks like it'll be a lot of fun, rest stops every 7-10k & a short loop if you don't have all day. I'ma be ride marshall, I guess they have a need for slow ass crippled ride marshalls to shepherd the children & such. I may wimp out and serve food at a checkpoint, have to ask my knee closer to the day.

Well once I get all fixed up so I can ride normaly again I'll come out the odd time with ya I need to train too, I am going to head over to Cavern bikes and see about getting a fixed rim today , I broke a molar tooth so the bike money is gone Monday:(

I was just wondering about locking up my bike in a secure area. I have an Ultegra equipped Specialized Roubaix and love riding it but don't feel comfortable locking it up anywhere. Are there any secure bike lockup areas downtown? I know many of the hospitals have them with video surveillance for their staff but what about a public one? I think that some of the Green P parking lots have bike lockups by the booths where you pay but that is the only place I can think of and even that isn't secure because I don't think there are any cameras. Does such a thing exist?

No they do not. Especially for any length of time greater than 30 minutes where you cannot check on the bike or see it.

Edit: They demo'ed these big bike boxes which you can put your entire bike in at the bike show, but I have no idea if they're even thinking of implementing that.

Yes from what ARC said the City is going to Implement bike lockers and there is a bike lock up near downtown but I forget where it is

5) NEW Bike locker project

Transportation Services, in partnership with the TTC, will be initiating a long-awaited Bike Locker Pilot Project over the next several months. Lockers provide secure individual bicycle parking that is especially appreciated by commuters who may be reluctant to leave their bike locked in the open all day. Bicycle lockers will be installed at several locations across the city, and will be available for rent on a four-month term, for $10 per month. The new lockers will be installed and available for rent by early spring 2006. Proposed sites for this first phase of the pilot project include the new "Mobility Hub" at Exhibition Place, as well as Finch, Lawrence, Victoria Park, and Royal York TTC subway stations, and Toronto City Hall. We are also looking for other potential bicycle locker locations for the second round of installation later in 2006. If you are interested in renting a locker, contact David Tomlinson by e-mail, at dtomlin@toronto.ca or by telephone, at 416-392-8400. Please indicate your preferred locker location -- either from those mentioned above, or any other suitable spot.

I phoned Cavern bike shop Saturday and asked for a flip/flop wheel or a fixed wheel so I could try fixed on the pinarello they said they had them so I went today all excieted:D to get one and the wrencher said they had none:eek: , my heart was crushed:cry: so I went on a sad ride home along the lake:(

I don't get why they chose subway stations for the bike lockers. You can't bring the bikes on during rush hour (when you'd want to) anyways...?

I guess they serve as employment nodes in the area? That way, cyclists can keep their bikes locked up if they want to travel further or if they work nearby.

They're also city owned property and are staffed pretty regularly.

That's exactly why they'd chose the subway stations. So people can ride to the subway and then leave their bike there while they're at work/school/etc.

edit: also, the only camera-monitored bike lockup I know of downtown is at MEC. There are likely others, but that's the only one I know of for certain.

Really? Have you ever seen the cctv monitors for that/those camera(s) inside? Was any staff member around to keep an eye on them? I've never seen the cameras there but it would be pretty sweet if there was a bit of extra security to make use of.

There's a guy who's a regular at C.T. - he rides a 2006 Bianchi 9-2-8 lugged carbon frame w/ full Campy Chorus and absolutely adores the bike. Since he takes the bike everywhere and locking it up on the street is obviously not an option, he just shoulders it and brings it in anywhere and everywhere he goes. Obviously this raises the hackles of security guards across the GTA. That being said, I think I'd rather tell security to piss off and a business owner that my bike stays or my money and I leave vs. risk the bike getting stolen or just not being able to take it out on certain trips.

I empathize with businesses that have to deal with cumbersome objects moving through their store (strollers, bikes I guess) but at the same time I don't use my bicycle as a battering ram and I know the odds of it getting stolen if it doesn't come in with me.

On a completely unrelated note, what the hell do Wes and I have to do to get some sponsorship money out of you people?! Speak up, we've each got almost two grand to raise! No, I will not make out with him in the bushes for cash ... but I will make out with you.

I haven't seen the monitors or anything, no. But I've seen the camera, and there's a sign saying that it's monitored via CCTV 24-7 I think. Probably not actively monitored though I would imagine... but recording. Not really the same thing, but it's more security than your typical curbside post affords.

Bah. Bike lockers for you to lock up at stations? Useless. Put one on campus and then we'll talk. The whole point of riding is to avoid transiting downtown, or anywhere near anywhere where you could bike.
