Bikes: 70s Leader Precision w/Shimano 600 (road), IRO Rob Roy (Fixed)

kergin: depending on my time, I'm in for a road ride.

Anyone going to the Bike Pirates deal on Friday? There's a 'ride' and a 'race' from their old location (College/Bathurst) to their apparent new place (Bloor/Lansdowne). Deets on FB here

So they're secure enough to ride fixed without trouble? That's why I want the straps, otherwise I'd just run bmx platforms like I have every other winter.

Shants (in the main forum) used them and liked them, so did Charlie and Mike. Search for posts in the main forum and you will find pros/cons people had. Here is one to start with.

I have Powergrips on the fixed gear. I'm a big fan. I find them more secure than clips and straps but easier to get out of. Of course, my winter boots are probably the size of most people's normal shoes...

Bikes: Eight homemade, three very dusty

You can't adjust the straps on the fly with Powergrips, but they won't loosen... Easier to fit many types of shoes since you don't have to bend deform a clip. They are not the prettiest though. So far I like them on my beater/winter bike.

if you're talking full-on winter sorels then i'd say you're best off with powergrips. i tried jamming my feet into clips last winter to no avail. another option that worked well for me was bmx pedals with the gripper-screw things on them. i think i'm going that route again this year...

I have my doubts that my "big" winter boots will fit into any kind of straps, except snowshoe straps. Most of the time I wear garrison boots though, and they're not that much bigger than shoes. I think I'm gonna go with the powergrips.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

And of course, the more I think about it, the more I want to do to it. Has anyone ever had different dropouts welded onto their frame? Was it expensive? The dropouts I have now are really short and it's limiting my gearing options.

ALSO: What are you guys running for ratios in the winter? I run 70 GI in the summer, but I'd like a little more torque to get through the heavy bits. I don't need to go fast, but I don't want to be going at walking speed either! I'm thinking somewhere around 60 but I'd like to hear what you guys are running.

I ride my commuter 42/14 and in the winter went 42/16. I might go 39/15 this year.

How's the shin feelin' Wes that reminded me of some of the nasty shin bashes we used to get skating vert, just not as clean as that slice.

Tribe screening tonight? On the fence, I is.

I never see used Cyclocross bikes on CL and they are few and far between on eBay, has anyone got a source for these bikes? CanadianCyclist and PinkBike is good but most of the CX bikes are newish, I want something old and steel like a Marinoni or a Pinarello....

Also, isn't there a MEC bike swap in the autumn? Or is there only the spring one?

I wonder what is going on with all those bikes that the cops confiscated from Igor? They must be up for auction sometime, has anyone heard anything lately?

Lastly, someone just told me that Johnny Depp will be playing The Riddler in the next Batman. I didn't think they could top Ledger as the Joker but this is a damned good casting choice if you ask me....Phillip Seymour Hoffman is pegged to play The Penguin too, hopefully not in the same movie, I think each actor could carry the movie on their own.

brad i'm usually around 63" in the winter 39x16 typically. the higher cadence helps keep the heart rate up to which keeps me warm...

My understanding is that the police now do all their auctioning via ebay. I hope I can do something and get a fixed winter beater set up really cheap so it'd be nice to catch that auction when it happens.
