i was on the side of the road waiting for someone to catch up after a red split us up, and this person starts honking at me while sitting behind me, they were honking at me because they wanted to park where i was standing which was next to a fire hydrant, in a bike lane

I have a pair of these, too. Trouble is they're gonna stop making them! I've run mine for about two years and damned well wore the ass out once, put holes in every pocket, but they keep going!

also if you're set on the chrome shins i would recommend going with the lightweight ones, i wish I had

the normal ones are too heavy, they soak up a ton of water if it's raining and they are too hot even for 0-5 degrees

well, seems like the next bike purchase will be a flat-bar commuter with disc brakes... I usually ride my Major Jake in weather like this, but today I rode without fenders, so when I got to work and started to place the bike in its rack I noticed the shavings of aluminum covering the fork crown. I tend to keep my bikes fairly clean and regularly check the brake pads for debris, but this is nuts! I don't know how much of this my rims can take.

tl;dr: disc brake-equipped road bikes make more sense in the city.

Supposedly Kool Stop pads are designed not to pick up debris and other road junk. I just picked up a set of Kool Stop salmons but haven't been riding them long enough to be able to make a judgement on that claim. They stop great though

with the ******** weather, or if u read savage love, leotarded weather, we have been having, I want to start commuting to work by bike, from sheppard and yonge.

I have an office enviornment to face once the commute is over, and the hardest part I'm trying to figure out is how to:
1. not smell like outdoors + wind + rain + sweat
2. complete 1. without a shower.

I figured change of clothes is mandatory... backpack with clothes + lunch would be about it..

Getting TO work is almost an entire downhill run except for a stretch on Mt Pleasant.. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the sketchy part of crossing the 401...

That claim is complete balls. The stock Shimano pads picked up just as much debris as the Kool Stop ones I have on there now. The only difference seems to be how fast the Shimano pads wore down in comparison to Kool Stops.

Without exception, the best pads I've used from a longevity standpoint are stock Campagnolo. They seem to last forever.

I guess it would take about half an hour on your bike to get from Yonge and Sheppard to downtown, right? Slow down a bit so you don't get too sweaty and leave a bit earlier.

In the mornings it won't be too hot so just leave a couple of nicely pressed shirts at your desk so that you can change into them once your ride is over. By June, every office building will have their AC cranked up really high so just hang out in the lobby for 10 minutes and cool off, put on the shirt at your desk and you are good to go. If you sweat like an ape, keep a towel in your pack and wipe your face now and then.

Baby wipes, or some form of wipe will do you wonders for a stall change. As well even when you sweat, the smell comes from bacteria on your skin interacting with the sweat. Ride right after your shower and you'll have no bacteria to make you smelly.

Looks like a RF Deus XC cranks but with that black/raw finish and no logo on the arms I'm guessing they're customized. Or am I missing something and these are actually available somewhere? I like black cranks but the worn-through ano look is aways a bummer. This would be a nice (Candian-made!) solution.

I ride to work most days. Not nearly as far, but I do the following:

Lots of clothes behind my door, baby wipes and deoderant, and I take my time riding. I rarely show up sweaty because when I see a yellow light I stop, not sprint.

Definitely Race-Face....possibly atlas but most likely Deus. He probably hit the shiny ano w/ some matte black and buffed off the outer edge. The whole crank appears to have a matte finish. he might have just hit the ano with a really light abrasive then polished the outside. Easily done with a grinder and a few different wheels. I have been tempted to black out the logos on mine.
P.S. what could be more of a Canadian made solution" than doing em up in yer basement.

It was originally listed on Kijiji for $100 on Monday night, believe it or not. The guy didn't post any pictures but he described it as purple and black and that he was 5'11; he put up his phone number and that was it. I called after it had been up for about a half hour and he said that someone was already on their way over.

I even thought about buying it for $350 (still a great price) because someone in the C&V section was after a 54cm Marinoni but I couldn't recall who it was, so I left it.

$800 is far too high though.
