Alright, return to your business.

Hey guys, I just arrived in Toronto and will be here for two weeks. I brought my bike w/ me :), but forgot to pack my bike shoes. :( I'm staying around Lakeshore & Bathurst area and was gonna hit MEC and Duke's(I think that's it) and that other place near Duke's to look for mtb shoes, but can any of you recommend any other places to get a good deal on mtb shoes? I'd like to check out Adidas mtb or the Diadora bikecop shoes. Thanks.

operator 05-24-06 09:43 PM

Forget Dukes.

Welcome. (Unfortunately I have no idea about the shoes, unless you'd just like a list of the bike shops I know. Good luck!)

Edit: doesn't Cycle Therapy carry Adidas? Ask Eyefloater for the address.

[shill]Hey, go figure - we've got a bunch of 2006 Adidas footwear for 50% off ... all men's size 9. See ya soon (1114 Queen East).[/shill]

*sigh* ... that felt dirty. And those probikekit.com deals are pretty awesome, I must admit.

Thanks eyefloater! What's the cross street? And if you work there, how would I recognize you?

eyefloater 05-24-06 11:25 PM

A little bit east of Pape.

Also see (in order of west to east along Queen-ish):

You're added to the list, and no.

Also, obviously y'alls are gonna have to kick in for gas with me or Keith. :)

eyefloater 05-25-06 07:02 AM

WTF, is this grade 12? Dude, can I bum a haul off your smoke?

Edit: $920?! Oh you bastard ...

somnambulant 05-25-06 07:03 AM

ugh.. I'm starting to experience a little knee pain/stiffness/ache in my left knee. sort of front/top part of my knee. Anyone think it's fixie related? Or just bike riding related? Or neither? I guess maybe I should consult a professional. Anyone know any sports doctors? I don't think normal doctors are any good at diagnosing this sort of thing.

Crackpot Theory #1:

Does your cleat alignment still look/feel okay? One of the guys at my work had his cleat slip a bit when he was on a ride. He didn't even notice it while he was on the bike, but his knee's in a sorry state of affairs now.

It doesn't look like it, plus with the amount of float in my eggbeaters I wouldn't expect that to be an issue. Unless they just aren't set up properly in the first place. :)

Hey, you should come out and ride with us at Critical Mass tomorrow evening! :)

eyefloater 05-25-06 07:30 AM

I glanced at your page:

Goal: $2,000
Raised: $920
Sponsors: 12
46% of goal achieved

... which seems to be slightly out of date.

Oh, and yes ... expect gas money from me.

SamHouston 05-25-06 07:35 AM

Any youse folk going to be in the Giro T.O.?

There will be one fixed marshall, so if you'd planned on riding it fixed let me know and I'll hook you up with the dude. Only on the 70km loop though.

You've increased your milage considerably in the recent weeks. In the past 36 hours did you do any serious hammering, big hills, or wicked crazy stops? I can totally make my knees hurt by mashing.

Nope, I've actually been taking it really easy. I didn't do the ride last weekend. I guess I'll just try and take it easy and use my brake instead of my legs.

I have had some significant knee problems in the past. One of the biggest things that helped me was a regular stretching routine. I go to the sports medicine clinic at 7 King West on the concourse level. They are great there...are sports specific and have full physio on the premises. They helped me out with my knee probs and I have never had problems since. If you go by there make sure you tell them it is a sports related injury (or they won't take you) and ask to see Doc Woollam...he rocks.

TRaffic Jammer 05-25-06 08:03 AM

maybe your knees are sayin' they neeeeed a ride

what he said. replacing worn cleats usually remedy that.

gokiburi 05-25-06 08:58 AM

while we're on the topic of shoes.. has anyone had problems with the buckle on sidi dominators? the buckle on my right shoe fell off which i thought wouldn't be a problem since i could just screw it back. i torqued it on pretty tight but now it doesn't move/swing at all. it's also more difficult to thread the strap through and after all that, it still falls off every now and then!... still a great shoe though.

jyossarian, any luck with finding cycle therapy? google maps should give you exact directions from where you're staying.

TRaffic Jammer 05-25-06 09:02 AM

good to know ... I'm STILL haven't gone to go get my shoes.
