Not so much daily, but yeah - I haul her around when I have her over for visitation :) Living in the opposite side of the city to her Mum definitely forces 'training' rides that way though :D
I took her to pre-school this morning (in the east end), held her in one arm and rode my conversion, so she's ridden fixed technically now :p Not so safe, but sidewalk riding her was faster than her walking speed, and it was quite chilly.
I need a tag-a-long thing soon, as the trailer is fast becoming too small for her, but that opens up a lot of scary traffic/her grasping cycling problems in my mind.

Nah, even at the end price it was a good deal, but I wasn't sure and didn't want to end up buying something I'd later regret. I'm quite prone to buyer's remorse.

You don't love your daughter?

Must be the case or do you just prefer to disregard her personal welfare?

I'm sure she had on a helmet while you rode with her in your arms.

Held feet first with skull dragging across the pavement, figured that was more efficient.

Oh, and cheers for that, - you should go buy yourself a choccy bar - I'm not personally into feeding trolls.

Just calling it the way it is.

When I see motorists driving without a car seat I call them out on it.

I love my kids enough that they were never in a car without the proper child seat or on a bike without a helmet.

Accidents happen, and as a parent it is my responsibilty to prevent unnecessary injuries.

Riding, especially fixed, with a child in your arms is deserving of a Darwin award.

The legal way yes. Not how you do it.

TRaffic Jammer 02-28-08 12:58 PM

You'd be amazed at what a tag-a-long can do for a little-ings balance pre-two wheeler. My nephew used to get ridden around on one for ages going back and forth to school and such. Once time for his own bike came, seriously, I held the bike, pushed and he was off. His balance had been perfectly trained by the Tag-a-long.

FF.. how old is your daughter? Will she fit a bike seat for the time being?

Nosir. The missus did all her interviews using my old minidisc recorder.

Gold * 2.

Also: I saw this funny mug at ideal a year or two ago and totally forgot what it said. I kept looking at the mug-shelf when I'd go there, but I never saw it again. Today it returned! Apparently someone took it home and then returned it..

TJ: She's 3, getting tall - she still fits in the trailer, but this year will need an upgrade. I've never felt good about those backrack/handlebar seats (if I ever have to dump the bike, if I wreck) - I figure the tag-a-long can only be a good thing - I can always grab a backrest for it to ease my mind - my main worry is that she'll let go of the handlebars, but she lives near the Taylor Creek, so there's lots of non-road paths to practice on with relative safety, and I don't have to be hooving it with her on the back so lower speed would be good for her. Though if I wreck with a tag-a-long that won't be too great for her anyway, but yeah.

She seems to love the rides so far, and I think she'd really enjoy being "out" instead of the trailer. Only problem I can see would be nap time, but ride times can be adjusted accordingly.

lol @ cup - my folks gave me one for Xmas a while ago that read "If I gave a ****, you'd be the first one to receive it!" which I always found fun :)

Pffft, if that bike has valve caps on - plus, don't those decals weigh like 0.0001g? :p

Does CF get brittle in the cold?

Not if the weave is made of at least 0.25% of Chuck Norris' chest hair.

TRaffic Jammer 02-28-08 02:50 PM

Then the frame is indestructible, that's the last thing they want.

You think? *Actual* weights, not advertised weights? And also in rideable condition (ie. with pedals/bar-wrap/etc). Got any examples? Just curious.

DrBenway 02-28-08 03:18 PM

Anyone going to the screenings tonight? Myself and Fuzzz - that's right, he's still alive - will be popping in. I saw Klunkers at BFF last year and it was GREAT. And I have yet to see the other so I'm stoked.

Then we're off directly to the SXSWi Toronto nerdfest meet up! w00t!! Austin next Friday!!

Ps. - Has anyone seen "that guy" with all the tact in here, in person? Does he wear a cape? Does he safe gaurd the rest of the people on the interwebz? I one day hope to meet them in person so they can extole the virtues of something or other to me IRL. It will be dreamy.

What, and come down from the big houses? Surely you jest.

me = jealous. I was thinking about doing that this year too. Had I realized you yahoos were going I probably would have actually gotten my butt in gear.

also: pm sent re: movies.

CX cats. In your experiences what are some of the most important things to look for in a CX frame? I'm wanting non-integrated, steel or alum. so far, Marinoni Fango, Yeti Arc-X and the new Rocky Mtn Team Edition have caught interest. I may be able to supply my own groupo ( a mix of FSA, record, and centaur). Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hahaha... ahh... one of those. It's all so clear to me now. I'll bet they drive a Range Rover. They're the worst kind.

I can't believe I forgot to share this - earmuffs Duppy.

On Monday morning on my way into work - having just had a fantastic sleep followed by a great morning, spinning in the sunshine of a not to cold day - I stop at Ontario and Carlton for the streetcar to let on about 40 kids from the school up the street. THe snow bank has fallen quite a bit into the lane so I was basically taking the lane in a track stand whilst the youngin's boarded. Doors close, I pedal about 100 feet and do a shoulder check to make sure I've cleared the streetcar and have room to go around the parked car ahead when I see nothing but lights and grill. MF is no my tail, almost making contact with my back wheel, in a Trail Blazer (read: S.U.Fee). As he brushes past me I yell the usual exasperated "****!" and he slams on the brakes, rolls down the window and starts yelling some sort of gibberish. I tell him to pull over if he wants to talk. He does, storms out of the truck whilst I plant my bike into the snow bank and remove my earbuds. Finally, I get to use my new line. With fist raised and the other hand pointing I say, "Listen, if you want we can just start punching eachother in the face until one of us falls down. I feel way better about my chances with you than your car." Stunned, he declines. He begin's a lively discussion about the downside to bicycles... in existance. "Why don't you have a slow moving vehicle sign on your bike?", "Don't you know you have to move when there's a faster vehicle behind you" and my personal favourite, "why are you even riding a bike anyways!?"

After asking why he is driving an SUV in the city, he begins to unpack the vehicle to show me all of his tools - which were quite nice - and the two baby seats in the back. I congratulate him on his success and shout in his face, "I don't have a family or an effin' contracting business now do I ****bag!" I follow this up with letting him know what the problem here is, "You're a prick and an idiot. Dangerous combination." He walks back to the car and tells me "next time I'll just run you over".

Response withheld due to the interthing having eyes. Do feel free to ask. ;)

Sufficed to say, we parted ways to forever be star crossed lovers. And everytime I see a black SUV, I look to see if it's piloted by a penis. :D
