Bikes: TBL Onyx Pro(ss converted), Pake SS (starting to look kinda pimped)

I'll be pleased with a geared century....
The fixie stuff for me is to be the Diamond Sprints and velodrome and maybe some ice racing.

I'm not terribly keen on getting out onto the road with a fixie. I did years of messer work on a SS, and I'm much more comfortable on those. Years of spinning has given me my ability to turn them cranks over fast and smooth. How fast and smooth remains to be seen. The thought of a hill descent on fixed chills this boy/man's blood.

As it is I may be looking to "road up" my MTB gearing wise, I've been running out of gears on the road lately. Who knows a place for some 1inch 26" slicks? Once I finish up the Cramerotti, I'll be looking to trade it for something likewise.

no worries I'll just put my singlespeed rim back on the bike and we'll do it that way because that way we can still bomb the downhills at 50k+

I picked up some 1.25'' Tioga City Slickers for the Surly from MEC. I think they might go smaller. They were 17 bucks apiece, I think. I can't report on how great they are yet, since I barely ride that bike anymore and I've only had them for a few weeks, but it seems like a decent deal.

50k is sprints.
I like the city slickers, but they have that rain tread, I'm lookin' for slicks at 1 inch I think. I will call MEC and see if they have smaller.
I bet Conti makes 'em for huge bucks.

Just out of curiosity what kind of Cramerotti do you have?

Do you have any pics of it?

And for ****s sake, where on earth can I find Deda bar tape locally (in stock, not order I can do that myself) ? Free beer to anyone who knows.
i was just there after work (urbane) must have just missed you. as for you levers' compatibility with bullhorns, i would hunt around for the levers that plug into the end of the bar (actually urbane has them i was asking about them for my new bars) as your drop bar levers may hit the bar before they engage the brake. i've tried setting them up this way and it was alright, but you need to set them really tight if you want sufficent braking force and therefore there is very little modulation. i'd say spend little cash and do it right, you need them brakes!

It's a 44? I think..... small.
I've got to get the post out....but then it's gravy.
I'm just too darned busy right now to sit and grind away at it.
It's low on the list. I MAY polish the metal once I get the paint off, just for the sake of pimpin'

duke`s used to be the only place i knew...they had 1" specialized slicks (`turbo`, i think) that i put on my MTB before. MEC usually only had as small as 1.25" (maybe 1.15"?).

will your MTB rim take a 1" tire? there are probably some skinnies made for the tri crowd in that diameter but i'm not sure of any tire for a mtb less than 1.25. why not get a slightly wider one and pump er' up nice and hard?

as for fixed centuries, it's not as hard as you would think. i would say that if you can manage 160km on a geared bike then you'll be fine on a fixed. i don't remember feeling any more tired ridining fixed vs geared. i remember doing a century from maple to jackson's point and back last spring and me and the fixies pretty much stayed with the rest of the club. the only place where we lost them was descending some of those huge rollers going south on keele from king rd, which was near the end of the ride anyway. i guess my point is: if you want to try it, do. push yourself and don't worry about about being fast. if you're in a hurry, why are you on a bicycle (as they say)?

here is two brake set up's I did with Bull horns on the 1959 Raliegh, I love the inboard levers , keeps my view higher in traffic with faster braking https://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7364/791/1600/b1.jpg https://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7.../1600/new2.jpg

I'm pretty sure the rim'l take it. I've slowly been whittling my way down. 1.5's off for 1.25's...rock hard.
you think I might have to go 26inch roadie rim?

We have completely slick Michelins in stock - I'll cut you a deal if you like'em (they're normally $39.95).

i haven't used 650c rims in years but i remember trying to mount a skinny tire on one and it wouldn't take; the tire wouldn't seat properly because the rim was too wide. those tri geek rims (and tires) are a different diameter than a MTB too.

slicks seem to be the winners of the day at the last ice races... depends on the pattern and the course. If it's that tight track at dufferin, it seemed like a bit of lateral slide from the back might not be a bad thing as you could get the tail around and hammer again. My buddies have been building these things for years I always get sucked into trying to help mount one. slice and dice.
