I've got a week old shimano LX bb in 110mm if someone wants to trade (or sell me the 107).

i'm not sure i (or anyone else here) needs to justify not "putting in the hard miles" or whatever. i've said it before and i'll say it again: i ride to school, to work, for groceries and i've done double centuries too; is one more noble than the other? I certainly don't think so. actually, the laid back attitude is one of the reasons i like hanging out / riding with the people here. if "just riding around chinatown for buns" isn't good enough for you then you're welcome on the doughnut ride any time. i, for one will not participate in any sort of "i ride more, i ride faster" pissing contest.

Anyway, so the gf dragged me out to look at an apartment today at College/Dovercourt. That's not exactly my neck of the woods ... anyone know if that area of town is decent to live in (just north of College on Dovercourt).

PS. Stupid effing duty fees on orders ... a man can't even get a damn frame these days without selling off a kidney.

i live even further west but i like that area of town, sort of little portugal. i just got a job at a restaurant around there so i know there's at least a place to get brunch...

It is a great area if you ask me (and you did); you've got the YMCA right there, a huge No-Frills right in Dufferin Mall (5 minute walk), lots of parks, streetcars on College or a short walk down to Dundas, Ossington station is about a 10 minute walk (there is an entrance to the subway on Delaware, one street east of Dovercourt), lots of small bakeries and grocery stores, really good brunch at Boom is about 5 minutes from you or Maggies, about 10 minutes and Roncesvalles is a 5 minute bike ride (best delis in the city as well as lots of bakeries) and High Park is about 10 minutes from you on a bike and the lakeshore about 15 minutes or so. You are about 15 minutes to the Eaton Centre (my marker for "downtonw") by bike and U of T is about 10 minutes. You'll be surprised how central you are, even though it seems like you are in the "west end".

I grew up in Parkdale/High Park and move out of the area now and then but always find my way back. Great 'hood for cycling too and if you get up into the Bloor West area there are a lot of older, richer Europeans riding around on Colnagos and Cervelos in High Park; they'll drop you like yesterdays news, believe me. Crazy.

I feel sort of bad after running over a pigeon that I think got sucked back into my chain/wheel this afternoon. I felt its little feathers going past my toes (a benefit of wearing sandals) and, when it was safe to look back I saw it flailing into oncoming traffic. Sucks to be a pigeon in China town. Probably too enamored with the street mung and didn't see me coming. I think the pedestrians were a little mortified by the whole thing.

You may not think you are an elitist, but you certainly come across that way. I also find it odd that a person who has been riding for over 20 years would call himself a JIT....just your attempt at humour I guess. For the record there are people in here that do race, but they don't put their internet names on the sign-in sheet. Since you seem to be such an awesome, fast cyclist, pehaps you could post some of your results from the O-cups this year? Good cyclists take advice from other cyclists. No-one was trying to say change the route....just making suggestions.

As if you don't know that's exactly where I live. :P Maybe if you managed to get your sorry ass out of bed to meet at my apartment like everyone else before the last velodrome trip you'd remember. ;) And to answer your question, I've lived there for 5 years or so, and when we moved recently our street number changed by 9 digits. So yeah, it's nice enough that we didn't want to leave!

edit: jet sanchez: do you really like Boom for breakfast that much? My gf and I really don't understand how or why there's a lineup out the door there every weekend. The only thing we can chalk it up to is a lack of choice for a "trendy brunch spot" along that strip. We both (as well as the people that came with us the 2-3 times we went) thought it was pretty tasteless and uninteresting. I went a few times because of the line (assuming line = popular = good food), I figured I must have just gotten them on a bad day or ordered the wrong thing. If you're strictly a breakfast place and you can't make a decent eggs benny, I'm not interested! Also, the fact that my gf described a waffle covered in fruit and chocolate sauce as "bland" doesn't bode well. :P

Rollers are a different style of workout than stationary trainers. Trainers usually have a resistance unit (Mag or Fluid) and don't require any real concentration to ride...just get on and pedal. If you are going to go the trainer route I would suggest the extra $ on a fluid is well worth it. they are quieter..and more mimic the "feel" of riding on the road. Rollers , at least until you get really comfortable on them, require more concentration to ride. The bonus is also that they help your bike handling skills as you have to keep the bike in a straight line else you come off them. Rollers dont offer the same kind of resistance as trainers ( unless you pick up a resistance unit for em) but all and all I think the rollers are a better form of training.

I wouldn't want to to feel you to be uncomfortable, like you were slumming or something. I wouldn't want your friends to shun you for bringing non-Rosedale riders to your mutual aren't-we-just-the-**** love fest, I'll leave them to mock you for other reasons I don't care to know. Anyone is welcome on our rides, regardless of "rig". You want to involve others, don't immediately come off as an arrogant prick. Trust me, high school is over and you won't get beat up everyday anymore.

Keith, I'm really likin' the SS idea for my bike. Stuff is going on it, and I think it'll be cheaper all around if I just do the conversion.
