Damn, I just retrofitted my house's lights to 100% compact fluorescent. To dial up to 400W I would need to turn on over 25 lights!
By the way, everyone should do this. We had a light fixture (8 lamp hanging fixture) that was burning 800 watts After I was done with it its been burning at 120 watts (and its still too bright). Along with weather stripping and sealing our crappy windows with insulating film, this is going to be the most energy efficient christmas ever! Hooray! |
We're in the midst of doing all our lights as well. NO WAY the fat man in the red is getting into Shizy's house

Lol.
How does shiznaz have time to come up with all this stuff, given you know there's like work and stuff. Office space?

I think the power company is giving them away free for the next few weekends. Home Depot IIRC. Dialing it up to 25 W. Sweet. |
Downtown still glows like a beacon in the night, but strangely it's all the home consumers (who aren't home), who are supposed to conserve. Wonky, typical , but wonky.

Have you seen those buildings off the side of the 427, outlined in blue LEDs or Neon? I like it, looks super Tron-ish cool.

When I end up getting my own house I see myself going insane with all the energy efficiency stuff. It just makes life more convenient at the same time. I'd Put all the lights and heat on a central system, with occupancy sensors so you don't have to use light switches. Before bed I could click a button on my computer and have the house 'go to sleep', keeping the heat low at night and only turning back on an hour before I get up. It would turn off again once I went to work and be ready for my return. Green roof to keep heat in and reduce envirnomental footprint, nice big windows to let solar heat in, geothermal power. The options we have as consumers is amazing. If I slapped a bunch of solar panels on the outside I'd have an extremely efficient house that would only need to consume net energy a fraction of the time.
Tell that to the assclowns on Cluny drive and see what they have to say. |
or go live in a condo where everyone's charged a stupid flat rate and where energy efficiency is not promoted nor rewarded. &*#^$&*@#()*()$# i used to be an energy miser but condo life has dulled the green in me. it's more of a blue now.

Don't let the man keep you down! I think of it as a game. I'm pac man eating up all the illuminated lamps (white dots) that my dumb housemates left on (they are the ghosts). As soon as I get home after work I go WOKKA WOKKA WOKKA and run around the house turning off all the lights. I do this before bed too but invariably the kitchen light is on when I wake up.
At least we are leaving on energy efficient lamps! And the whole condo flat rate, throw all your trash in one hole thing is terrible. Recycling rates at condos are appalling and they're not usually very well built so you lose alot of the efficiency of being in a large communal building. |
i'm wokka-wokka-ing at work though. people leave a ton of those ikea desk lights on for no reason. i need a cherry bonus.
|
interesting you guys are talking about this, I saw a house while riding to the bike paths through cabbage patch town and the roof of this house had pure solar panels...was pretty cool...bet theyre electric bills are 0 or close to 0...

Anyone know how well Zero Gravity brakes stop in real life?
I've looked at the design and I get a chubby, being a design geek, I simply MUST have them. |
yeah I have them on all my bikes. They don't actually work; just for show.
|
darn  I was kinda hoping the cam system made for some good grip.

The finish on those brakes do look really snazzy. |
