I'm going to buy a san rensho for next summer if anything goes right at all and I'm going to ride the **** out of all over toronto and the track. Two sets of wheels, no riding in the rain etc but I hope to never own a bike I won't ride on the street.

Well if yer not gonna ride it on the street then when you gonna ride it? A bike is a bike...no matter how sweet it is. Perhaps they should make you sign a waiver when you buy "track" bikes swearing you will ride it only on the track? Sorry dude but that smacks of snobbery. By that logic the only bike I own that I should ride on the street is my cruiser.

Because it's a beautiful work of art and costs about eleventy-million dollars. Plus, you know, the jealousy (which probably counts for more than anything else).

Costa Rica = super easy to travel in but expensive compared to anywhere else in central america. Awesome surfing/trekking/nature stuff in general. Avoid Playa tamarindo and area unless you want to surf ollie's point and witch's rock both of which are righteously good. Salsa Brava is an amazing wave but seriously dangerous for novices (the break is right over a reef and next to/under a beer patio). No spanish really neccesary great services really built for a hassle free trip.

Personally I thought Nicaragua was a far better deal/trip/experience but some people have a thing about traveling in a country where there are guns everywhere. And Spanish is much more neccesary but everything is dirt cheap and tons more fun IMO.

All in all costa's cool but I'd rather spend 6 weeks in Nica for hte price of 3 in costa just my opinion.

How did I know you'd be the first (or possibly only) one to respond? I'm not concerned in any way by the cost of Costa Rica, it's more of a climate thing (political and geo). I don't think I've much interest in anywhere else in central america, but possibly somewhere in the Caribbean area. Mostly I'd just like to avoid as much of the tourist-trap-all-inclusive-walled-resort-with-children-running-around-screaming thing as I can and chillax on the beach for a week or so during the holidays.

I spent a month in Guatemala a few years back...had a great time. There is a town called Panahachel (sp?) that I spent more than 2 weeks at. Lots of beach...many other towns around the lake (Lake Atitlan) to visit if ya want and quite cheap. I would go back. Tikal was the bomb!

We have been told. +10 to the use it or lose it vis-a-vis a nice ride, it's only nice if you ride it, if you don't ride it because it's too nice, you might have better off not getting it at all.

Exactly my reason for NOT having a nice ride as my city bike.

you can have as many bikes as you like as long as you are willing to ride them on the road, not to say you will leave a 10K TIG MIG locked to a post and ring, but you have to be willing to take it out.

Cozumel has great diving but for avoiding the all inclusive thing...well it IS the highest volume cruise ship port in the Carribean...plus after the earthquake I hear its not all it was especially the diving. You can definately avoid the resorts in Costa, tons of great great hostels if you go you must MUST go to monteverde and at say at the Pension Santa Elena. As a non-smoker you won't understand the majesty of spending a day smoking derby suave and drinking imperial on the patio. But you will atleast understand the beer part.

Random bike comment: We need a halloween alleycat that is all.

Its not so much that I don't think hot track bikes should touch the street, its just like, buddy, why are you commuting to work in your Lambo? I'd rather save the paintjob and chance of theft and just ride a more sensible bike around the city.

I don't quite feel this way, but I can tell you that when I went to that Scorchers to alleycats exhibit, I was floored by how beautiful and spotless the vintage bikes were. I know people on this forum see that a collector bought some crazy prototype cinelli where he says he won't ride it and everyone goes crazy calling him a snob and how they would ride the sh*t out of it. But then my kids wouldn't be able to look at it 50 years down the road and be like 'Damn'. Keeping something for posterity (not just for the fact of owning it), is a completely noble thing.

I know I'm sure as hell not taking my cyclops on coffee rides...

Does this argument happen with sneaker collectors?

I've been there too (I fall into the priveleged white boy category with offhoff).

Lovely place. Super people. Get outta the capital as soon as possible and you can't really go wrong. I particularly enjoyed Tamarindo and Puntarenas. The toursity stuff is fun too anyways. Who can say no to taking a zip line through the jungle canopy?

Is this a regular or a bike holiday? Also, learn to like rice, beans, beef and fruit!
