double-fixed flip-flops are good if you ever plan on running your bike on the track and street too.. that way you can try and get 2 ratios that are street AND track friendly while still fitting in the dropouts.
also, food for thought: my quando hub has treated me just fine. Nearly 2 years of daily commuting, year round, plus some longer distance rides outside the city and it's still going fine (*knock on wood*). I've had it rebuilt once (with Phil bearings, ironically enough), but I think that's expected for a bike that got parked outside for about a year and was ridden through the winters. YMMV, however. Personally I'd be ****baked about my bike getting stolen if I had phils or something on my fixie. That's the whole point of this bike.. I can lock it up and not be overly concerned. Again, depends on what you plan on doing with the bike and how paranoid you are. :) |
I think the best thing about fixed/fixed hubs is if you strip out one side, the hub is still good to run fixed gear. Try telling that to my suzue basic flip flop... As far as switching gears on the fly goes, I never do it. Like, ever... especially not in this town.

*edit* I'm in class right now. Bike forums is going to make me fail out of school. |

Ugh so I go to get a 'cupping' of 'americano' this afternoon and the so called 'barista' 'pulls' me a 'cafe crema' instead of an 'americano'! Unforgivable! Not only that, but I have to stand there while she pushes the button on their machine 5 times while she tries to fill up my cup a shot at a time. Oh well, I'm sure if she had made me what I ordered she would have added boiling water to the shot afterwards, destroying its balance, so maybe I should be thankful. /snob
And so goes my PATH system coffee adventure. There must be something in the air down there. Anyone know any decent coffee shops near union station? I'm dying paying 2.50 a cup for these crappy americanos. |

Inevitably someone will probably ask "why" so I'll just field that one now too. My friend and I were having a photoshop contest of sorts. |

Actually her picture of her with the Backstreet Boys looked pretty seemless. She probably beat me on execution but in wackiness I totally schooled her. |

Ouch. Watch out for hail while riding home.
Those little ice pellets really hurt. My under eye lids are all bleeding now. |
I got a tailwind heading home east, should take me all of 20seconds to cover the 5.5 km

When I carved right onto The Esplanade off Church, it was like hitting a solid wall of air. it's gonna be a blast home, still Easterly?

Sort of South East, but maybe that was just the wind tunnel effect down University Ave.

Or, *shutter* walk/push through it, because that sucks. *sigh* I wish we had snow. *edit* is it me or do they not look terribly comfy at the ankle? Think Blue Mountain still let us ride the hill, they are desperate for funds.. |
Nope, they closed their doors last week until it gets colder.
