Shimano would have my vote, if walking is any factor... I've had two pairs over the years (M110, M100) and they are good for durability, great for walking. In fact I pulled off a 2 hour hike in the M100's one day when my freewheel seized up. Could've called a cab but the walk was no problem at all. I've got the relatively cheap-o Sidi Rampa's now although they are lighter than the Shimano, better fit, way better for riding, they are tricky when off the bike exactly as noted above.

At McMaster's we have a few older road frames, then there's Recycle Cycles in the city, they have a bunch more.

Awesome, I have some friends in Hamilton, maybe I'll try and get up there to visit them and check some stuff out. Thanks dude

I had shimanos as well...they lasted forever...they were the boot ones that kinna look like sidis...lasted me 7 years or so...they just started to fall apart last year.

Figured out what hte problem was. When I took the bearings out of the cage I neglected to put more in, a lot more. I open the top race up and see the race is only half full!

Yeah.. my shimano mtb shoes are ~ 14 years old and still totally functional. The tread is too worn down for proper offroad traction, and they're ugly as hell, but otherwise they're great. And they went through several years of heavy race/group ride use back in my first iteration of mtn biking obsession. :) That said, the Dominators are far more comfortable than the Shimano shoes ever were. I love my Shimano SH MP-66's for city use, however.

Some bike shop is selling. Any ideas which one? Polly's?

Shiznaz 05-04-07 12:05 PM

Thats the rumour...

somnambulant 05-04-07 12:05 PM

goddamnit.. I was listening to El-P this morning and I thought "hey, I wonder if he's touring soon", so I check on the Def Jux website and he played here last night! d'oh! I suck teh balls.

Also, I love this song.. I used to listen to it regularly to cheer me up at my old job: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwRlS2UVHA8

:P

Shiznaz 05-04-07 12:13 PM

Mr. Lif is great. His shows are always super fun, and that song is especially fun. I'd never seen that video but in one of those shots I was like "Hey is that whoopie goldberg?" I'm not nearly as big of a fan of El-P though.

Nah you get more radiation from walking down the street. A monitor capable of handling a variety of differing resolutions is the most important to me - LCDs still can't do that.

"Don't make me bite ya face (come on)
'Cuz it ain't like I like the taste
It's more of a psychological thing
My heart pace'll never change
But your cabbage'll get rearranged"

How could you not love El-P with lyrics like that? :D

edit: wait.. Did I post that yesterday too? It's been a Def Jux week. :)

Not sure if this has been posted before, but the Spring '07 Cadence video is pretty schweet.

I just emailed Dustin to tell him to put it on youtube so it's bigger than a postage stamp. :)

I've just never really been all that in to his voice and style... I'm kind of the same way with Mr. Lif but I still like him despite it. Maybe I'm just racist?

fisso416 05-04-07 12:31 PM

A lot of things are sold out at Cadence... those Sail-Cloth hats... wow.

Shiznaz 05-04-07 12:32 PM

Oh yeah, is there a safety meeting tonight? I discovered I had some safety literature in my bag at work this morning so I'm all set.

Really? He's always been pretty prompt with me, although he bungled my last order (hence why I have an "upgraded" version of that sail cloth hat). Last time I chatted with him through email he said he was ridiculously busy. I say just drop him another line.

somnambulant 05-04-07 01:12 PM

Does anyone know who I could get in touch with at city hall about replacing a street drain cover? There's one at Dovercourt & Dewson that has tried to swallow my bike whole many times and usually forces me to go around the stopped cars on the left in order to make a right turn. It's not the "chevron" style diagonal grate, but the old style where they're all parallel. My wheels fit in there perfectly. There's another on Ossington @ College.

I assume Dept of Works, but maybe my councilor could help as well.. especially since it's "mr cycling" Adam Giambrone.

Of course, I'm not sure this will be high on the priority list, but it's worth trying. :)

Offhoff 05-04-07 01:29 PM

Try that or this www.thestar.com/thefixer just click on suggest a problem.

In other news I have a stomach virus of doom. It sucks. That is all

Good one. Done and doner. :)

Shiznaz 05-04-07 01:52 PM

I noticed one of those last weekend, but I forget exactly where... I think it was in the beaches area. I was playing with my bike while standing over it during a conversation and idly stuck the tire in the grate while fiddling around and then all of a sudden I realized that it was the evil wheel eater style ones. Sometimes I get afraid I'm going to taco my wheel track standing near the diagonal ones because my front wheel tends to be at about that angle.

Anyways, any news on safety meeting? Otherwise I've got some shopping to do.
