Home owners insurance should cover the bike (I would think) but who knows. My tenant insurance claimed to cover my bike anywhere, but it's easy to say that when trying to sell me a policy rather than when I make a claim.

Anyone got a 50-52 cm road bike for sale relatively cheap? Looking for one for my gf (I know it's a bad move! :) )

Thanks for the offer, but he still has his old mtb, thankfully. We're hoping that at least one of his home insurance, car insurance or credit card (3-month replacement policy thing) will cover it. He's also looking for a job if anyone's hiring a jr. web dude. :)

update: Dave just emailed and told me his bike is covered under his home insurance. Now he's looking at a Salsa Dos Niner (replacing a Jamis Dakar 29'er).

side question: does anyone know how long a lap is in the CHIN picnic crit course? I guess I can just check in gmaps-pedometer. (edit: looks like it's around 1km)

The funny thing is, I know exactly where you went for food. That really sucks about the bike. I've had similar visions of it happening to mine so I just stopped doing it and put it in the backseat instead.

Gmaps says it's around 1.4-5km.

P.S My quando is 1 year + now. But I use a front brake and don't do any hipster tricks besides trackstanding.

Nice. I contacted my insurance company a while ago to see if my bikes were covered under my homeowner's insurance and they apparently are BUT with a $1000 deductible... Only one of my bikes goes over that and not by much so it wouldn't make any sense for me to claim it if it got stolen / thrashed...

Ah, I think I mapped it out slightly wrong to get my 1km total. You're right. Anyone wanna go do some laps some night this week? :)

Are you planning on racing? It should be fun, and likely to draw a large field in each category. I'm usually down there on Thursday nights doing laps.

Correction: Hipsters can't do tricks. :)

operator 06-18-07 02:14 PM

Does anyone here have their private pilots license / rec permit? I need to talk to you

P.S When we going to get COD 2 going again?

TRaffic Jammer 06-18-07 02:28 PM

Track standing is a handling/racing skill rather than a trick IMHO

Yeah, actually I'm thinking about it. I did a lot of mountain bike racing about 12 years ago, but I've never raced road at all. I'd like to give it a try and that seems like a nice easy venue to do so. Although 10 laps on that circuit for the "try-a-race" category seems kind of silly. :P But, it means I can race with my citizen permit. :)

Apparently I should be working in the paint-blasting industry. :P

You can also race Senior 4/Master 3 with a citizen permit. It's 40 minutes long, and despite it being the entry level category, it's still quite competitive. Either way, you should come out. Racing is addictive.

Agreed - granted there is definitely "trick trackstanding" (See BURD) but the trackstand in and of itself? Not really a trick, just a useful skill.

TRaffic Jammer 06-18-07 03:03 PM

Burd was pretty cool i must admit but I felt I was watching more flatland BMX than trackstand.

Whenever Andrew, Robin, Shamil, and Co. get their sh*t together. :)

However, we are gonna have to use the no-ip "bagdadcafe server" with a high ping server, since the key code generator works like poop.

This applies to all OCA sanctioned races. Sen4/Master3 don't require a license; one day citizen permits will suffice. It's set up this way, I think, to encourange new riders to try racing.

Well Sham just got a 24" I-Mac so I think he will be rarin' to go.

One day and Citizen are a different license. Citizen is good for the season while one day is just as it sounds.

My bad. I assumed they were one in the same.

2wheelsgood 06-18-07 05:10 PM

"OCA Citizen Permit holders may register for Beginners Races, Youth Series / School Championship, Recumbent, U17, U19, Master 3, and Senior 4 male."

"One Day permits are only available for the lowest level ability category"

Saw someone get hit today right in front of the shop... Guy decided the fastest way around the guy turning left in front of him was to merge into the bike lane. Unfortunate indeed for the woman who happened to be there when he did. He finished his phone conversation before he got out to see if she was alright:eek:

She went down pretty hard- he knocked her into the curb and I think she landed on her elbow. I pulled her bike off her, but luckily some guy in a van had the whole first aid deal and knew how to use it so he took over from there. I think she's probably got a broken elbow. What a ****ty deal.

Stay sharp out there. Watch it tomorrow - gusty winds and trucks without sideskirts = disaster waiting to happen.

P.S The canadian transportation board rejected proposal for mandatory sideskirts on trucks for economic/evil reasons.

No way in hell I'm paying an extra 40 cents for my big screen plasma TV just to save a few hippies on bikes
