Cavern I won't be by tonight, long day on the bike. But I'll come down tomorrow sometime, hopefully, with my buddy to get his MTB fixed for the race.

It's okay, we all suck compared to those punk kids that play on the public servers...

I can hook you up with the Mac version. The game requires at least a G5 2GHz or faster.

hahaha.. if "cool" means looking like your pedal has fallen off.
$100 is "cheap" compared with retail though...

To all those racing/chillling out on Friday there will be a carberific feeding frenzy attended by atleast me, but most likely a few others, at The Dumpling House at 328 Spadina. Which is Spadina on the west side just south of St. Andrew. I'm gonna get there for 6-6:15. Everyone is welcome, its super cheap and delicious so I hope to see everyone out. After that we can get safe and then race for the gold. I'm bringing all my camera gear so if anyone thinks it would be wicked to ride with a camera track me down on the street or post and we'll figure something out.

PS: If anyone has a left side cross lever they'd be willing to part with I'd take it off your hands...

tovi 04-11-07 09:03 PM

on the hills note, I'll add:
1) Twin Rivers Drive - this is what Sheppard turns into at the Zoo
2) Beechwood Drive - also climbs out of the Don Valley, except the road is basically permanently closed to traffic, so it's great for endless repeats without disturbance.

i'm gonna try my best to make it but i'll be on set that day and i never know when we'll wrap until they actually say the words. i'll text you if i'm attending. and if you're riding by the park behind the flatiron building (church & wellington/front) on friday stop by and say hello. or ring your bell. or something.

did anyone make it to the movie? i was stuck at work until now.

Mike bon voyage mon ami et merci pour les pnues.

Zippered did you come east to go to the spit? It would have made for a quick trip home if you are going west. :)

In the city, the best hill I have found is at Bluffer's Park in Scarborough - the bottom of Brimley. If you start right at the bottom in the parking lot and take the hill all the way up to Kingston Rd., it's almost 1500m. There are other steeper hills in the city (though Bluffers is pretty steep for the first half), but not nearly as long . Among the hardest ones are: (i) the hill climbing up to the Redway Rd. Loblaws (off of Millwood) from the sewage treatment plant in the valley; (ii) where Lawrence runs east from Bayview (starts down under the Bayview bridge and run up to the Bridlepath area); and (iii) the hills just west of High Park (Ellis Ave, Ellis Park Rd. and the switchbacks up Harcroft Rd.) If you pick the wrong gearing (especially on the Loblaws hill) these are fall-over-sideways steep - a taste of what you'll get on the switchbacks in France.

I've done the hill that runs up into the Bridlepath area, and it's a good one. Not crazy long, but pretty damn steep.

i can attest to severity of the high park hills. i organized a group ride for the fixie club a few years back and they were all groaning at me when i led them up that switchback. it'll get you in shape though.

EDIT: I have done the bluffer's park hill on my fixie; when i was first training for the hairshirt it was one of my regulars. first time up it was some insane gearing like 46x16, but most of the times up it's been something more sensible. i'm so out of shape now though, i can't imagine trying it. i don't want to have to get off and walk, becuase walking means you've been defeated!

you need those pedals and an old huret RD if you want a silly light bike. At least pretty much every crazy light bike I have seen has had those 2 components on them. They must be light!

ooohhh yesss

tic-tacked east down to cherry street and across the marsh. only made it to the bridge before turning back into the brutal wind. the headwind wasn't so bad, it was the cross wind pushing me sideways and freezing my ear canal that was unpleasant. some of the biggest waves i've seen out there. i was dressed for the rain, but not really for a 40 km ride.

anyway, yes, it was a brilliantly fast ride back west. i was spinning out with no effort. would have considered going even farther west but the wetness was begining to seep into my shoes and my fingers were starting to pass the painful point toward numbness.

as a side-note: whereas i am amused by my funky-looking new bar tape, the cinelli stuff is not nearly as nicely padded as the silva kind.

You have 2 gears?! This is a single speed forum buddy...move along, nothing to see here.
That was a brutal wind tho. Loving the 44 x 17 I am running at the moment...69.9 gear inches....Alll right.
