Anyone seen this: http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/310502477.html? What are people's opinion on this? Assuming you sell a bike and don't know it's cracked, would you refund the money?

iherald 04-12-07 08:42 AM

Fetish Cycle front fork. This might be Cavernmech's buddies:

Kurt Vonnegut died last night. So it goes.

All of a sudden a bunch of people from my old high school are adding me to Facebook. I don't use the site very often, but it's interesting to see pictures of people 9 years later.

Facebook is like herpes. It spreads real fast and occasionally has an outbreak of rashes and lesions etc. Join facebook, invite friend who doesn't have facebook, who invites other friend, who etc. I generally get like 5 friend requests during one day, and then none for a few weeks.

Absolutely. But buddy who sold it knew it was cracked. The photos are pretty explicit. And too, the buyer should have checked it out. I don't care if you were on your lunch break or not. It takes two minutes to run your hands down the tubes and wrap a string to eyeball if the frame is bent.

And yes, facebook is similar to herpes, but without the pain and social stigma. At least not yet... Maybe I don't have enough friends, as Rob so kindly pointed out :(

iherald 04-12-07 01:51 PM

facebook is now officially bad for being able to see whether ex girlfriends turned out hot or not.

TRaffic Jammer 04-12-07 01:54 PM

I'll take to mean ...oh man ..look at her now... if only I'd known

Gah, does that ttc guy want his own private subway car or something? When I was commuting to Richmond/John from St Clair/Dufferin it only took 30 minutes (only 20 minutes by bike).

I've got to lay off those vitamins....http://cavit8.clawz.com/images/crank.jpg

Shiznaz 04-12-07 02:40 PM

Thats totally user error. You must screwed on your pedals wrong.

Welcome to the mangled crank club.

It must have been fun having half a crank and a pedal attached to your shoe!

cavit8 04-12-07 02:50 PM

I thought of you once I figured out what had happened. Luckily I had a bag of buns from the Pheonix bakery so I'm solacing mysefl as we speak. They are new pedals though, so it's Shapelike's fault for selling them to me. Boy, when he gets back from Paris he'll get a talking to.

Shiznaz 04-12-07 02:53 PM

Maybe its because your saddle didn't match your bar tape? Good to know you didn't crash and burn.. that looks like it could have been a bad one!

PS. I have some campy alloy dustcaps screwed into my old shimano cranks, and the 5mm allen key hole has totally stripped, its almost flush with the crank arm, and its in there pretty tight. Suggestions? The reason I want to remove it is so I can tighten my BB which has been slipping slightly. All I can think to do is drill some little holes for a pin spanner which I don't own, or jam a 6mm torx key in there which I also don't own, or laboriously file out a slot and take it out with a flathead screw driver which I do own.

Shiznaz 04-12-07 03:24 PM

Oh yeah, Robin, when you rode up the Pacific Coast were the headwinds brutal? like, a deal maker or breaker? Keeping in mind I'll be loaded up to the brim and not on a racing bike.

It would be more convenient for me to go from LA to vancouver, but the benefit of doing vancouver to LA is:
prevailing winds come from north to south
wider shoulders on west side of 101
more touring cyclists heading south
better view heading south
not wedged between traffic and a rock wall heading south
I will be able to choose whether to do the trans canada or southern tier route once I get to LA

The cons are:
Pacific northwest weather in june can be sketchy
Pacific southwest weatehr in july can be brutally hot
I will have to take more than one flight (LA to Vancouver ~$110CAD)

Decisions, decisions...

cavit8 04-12-07 03:29 PM

You may be able to drill the holes, thread in some screws of some kind and put a screwdriver in between them and lever it aroundhttp://cavit8.clawz.com/images/Diagram1.png

Oh and my bartape does match my saddle which is likely why I only barked my knee a bit. Not even worth a photo.
