Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Happy b'day, Dan. Too bad it didn't fall on a long weekend. We celebrate those for days and days.

Had my first tubeless puncture today. We were riding along and my rear tire felt jumpy like it was out of round and then it smoothed out. I assumed that it was a chattery section in the road or something. 10 miles later, my group stopped at a convenient store and I saw the orange sealant spray on the rear of my bike. I couldn't find the puncture but the spray was a dead giveaway. The tire lost about 10-15 psi but still felt good. I hand pumped it back up but could have easily ridden it the 22 miles home.

I'm in dire need of that setup; the little lady is a bit of a cadence hater.

That's mighty flat country you have there. It's little wonder you can peel off 44 miles without thinking about it.

PS: Yes, I have ridden in Illinois, but along the Mississippi where the organisers of that particular 24H TT found some rather steep even if shortish hills.

Yes, it was re-sealed last Fall. It will be fine by the middle of Summer. Btw, it's actually 3/8" gravel.

I don't think any DOT is torturous enough to actually use 1", but sometimes it sure feels like it

This reminds me, I still need to write all the local DOTs with my huge money-saving idea: "Stop chip sealing the bike lanes and shoulders!"

Perhaps there is an issue with your gear selection.

Nope. High cadence is where it's at!!!

'Til those brain impulse sharing devices hit the mainstream I'm just gonna keep trying to talk her into SPDs.

Or maybe get her to ride a fixed gear with 65 GI down some nice hills - after that, my preferred cadence will seem rather slothful, serene even.
