Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The person working that day was unhelpful, patronizing, and a real creep. He made comments about what I was wearing, looking at me up and down - and told me this isn't a shop "where you can just drop off your bike and have someone do it for you." I told him I do it myself (I was well aware of the self-help structure of the shop before I visited). After meeting the attendant, I definitely did not feel comfortable staying to fix my bike there. I'm sorry to have to leave this review as I've heard wonderful things about the shop.
Total man cave. Most volunteers are wonderful and very helpful, however it only takes a couple of *******s to ruin the BK.

I wanted to buy a used bike. There was some donated bikes, most of them really used. Anyway, one was ok and I wanted to know more about it but the "manager" was not able to provide me with any information. It is like he was unable to speak or something, I got some words out of his mouth and then his phone rang so he left to have his conversation out of the store.

I would think that it would depend upon the nature of the ride; specially if it's shop affiliated, I can understand the desire to distance themselves from any possible liability.

Why do BMX bikes have seats? I never see the riders sitting on the seat.

Regarding latest not being greatest, don't forget that just because it is oldest, doesn't mean it is boldest. (Well give me some points for trying.)

Hey, all in fun. I am just pulling some chain here. "I've always been crazy. It's what keeps me from going insane." With apologies to Waylon Jennings.
I fully realize you are just having fun. Your best quality is that you don't take this cycling stuff too seriously. And I was fully aware you own a steelie, you've posted it, after all.

That said, I could not allow your shot across the bow to go unanswered, at least not on MY watch, anyway. I knew west-coast Les was prolly not yet awake, so I had to defend his honor . . . and sensibilities.

BUT . . . Les's and 3a's passion for steel is not necessarily looking for something better than what they already own, it's simply a matter of n+1.

Yesterday I went out with my non-cyclist dad. He did wear a helmet, which he initially put on backwards.

We cruised a nearby MUP and some residential streets for 45 minutes to an hour. That was enough for him.

Then, after only a few minutes of recovery, I took to the death-defying roads for a 30-miler.

You're thinking, "wut, two rides in one day? What an animal!"

Yes, it's true--guilty as charged.

I always marveled at folks who could write creatively rather than just technically and factually like me. I guess this fooling around and chain yanking stuff on the 41 is as close as I will ever come to "creative" writing. Occasionally it is close enough...mostly not so much.

It was a club ride. Club rules state helmets are mandatory.

Remember that swell donation bike I mentioned a while back with steel frame and discs

.
...well, it's finally cleaned up, has tyres, and here are the photos for my CL ad.

Swell bike, pristine, my size, steel fillet brazed by this guy, but I looked at it again yesterday and just can't get excited. Maybe you have to be a CX guy to really appreciate it. Anyhow, I'm still trying to figure out a fair used price, will probably call the shop over in Winters today for info.

Bravo, bravo! See that is what I'm talkin' about. How do you do that?

No one loves steel more than me. It's just that one is enough...for me. And one carbon, and one titanium, and well, I just don't know about aluminum. We will just have to see.

It's what I would do, whenever i take out one of my daughters friends, usually a rail thin soccer stars at the local university hailing from deepest darkest Africa, they all want to smoke me. They never do. So I let them set the pace. Within 15 miles they are usually toast. Then we mosey on home at which time "my Dad" goes out again for the real ride. I love it. Really surprised though these soccer stars aren't better at cycling.

I could get started but I won't.
I do wear a helmet always but I have little faith in any real life saving function associated with one.
Funny, I have a couple of friends who are into motorcycling and cycling. They both ride Harleys. They would not be caught dead , which likely they will be some day, in one.
Get them in their lycra and out on their bicycles....yep, you got it, helmets always in place.
We are a species that is fond of uniforms. Even when we think we are rebelling against them, we find we are still wearing them.

That Insignia on the head tube is pretty close to copyright infringement.

Um, wasn't the first ride really a warm-up, or did you dial it up to 400w and drope the hammer?
