Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah...not exactly the most aesthetic but I see it as more of a P.O.C. type thang... It would be cool to be able to spec your geometry and blam-blam-blam go the robots.

Not sure that was a good idea. My tyres made a weird noise rolling and debris stuck to them afterwards.
Who was killed? How/Where?

I ride with accessories and try to maintain my SA. First rule of life is don't trust anyone.

A woman was stabbed to death in an apparently random attack on a MUP near where I work. Try to keep up with these important Knoxville news stories.

We scoff at Knoxville news here. We have some prom pictures of the guys and gals posing in front of the rebel flag, sporting some high powered *****s. Now that's news.

Ride Report! [Tape-delayed from Saturday]

I rode westward into Loudon/Roane County and Melton Hill Dam.

It finally warmed up and is nice to be outside again.

Exurban sprawl. Evil.

Earlier @Heathpack posted a photo in California that reminded me of this spot. Only here it is green, the natural color of vegetation.

Along the way I saw cows, dogs, and a burrow (not pictured).

47 miles.

I just don't get the satisfaction that folks get denigrating ebay with those cutesy nicknames like fleabay and scambay. It's ebay, and it is the most powerful consumer-oriented buying and selling tool that has ever been invented since money and credit. It is safe to use and provides incredible access to goods if you are a buyer and to buyers if you are a seller. Cycling among enthusiasts would be very different these days if it weren't for ebay. I certainly wouldn't be riding the kind of bikes I have. No way I could have afforded them. If you don't like it, don't use it, but why insist on using the funny name. Sorry for the rant, but I just don't understand it.

Same for Whole Paycheck instead of Whole Foods or Needless Markup instead of Neiman Marcus. Please guys, just give it a rest.

Maybe it's the veteran thing. Then again I (and I believe most of us) witness enough blatant and dangerous stupidity, malevolence, etc.. to justify a bit more personal vigilance.

That's a damned shame, headphones?

So many women are taken unawares by male predators. I remember teaching my daughter how to walk down a sidewalk making sure she's out of the range of a car-door's swing, etc.. Stick to well lit & populated areas, look up, look both ways crossing a one-way street unless you believe in God, (Then again you're supposed to help yourself...), look across the street at oncoming traffic...you never know who may lose control and jump over to your side...

Have a sphere around you where you're always actively engaged in observing the world. If it looks funny it is.

She's been in martial arts since 4, does boxing now, has practical experience with firearms...Very much a girly-girl (Theater-Arts High School), but her jab is lightning, she's built like a brick ****house, her combos are insanely intuitive, but for all that she realizes that, for instance me, a guy can have 60 pounds on her and that could be a lot of trouble.

She's happy, has a great boyfriend, just exquisitely observant.

Nothing is foolproof but a bit more SA goes a long way in my experience...

They were advertised as "near mint" so if they pass the sniff test, nothing.

Otherwise, I will get some of that stinky shoe spray. Based on listing it probably won't be necessary.

Are you going to administer the sniff test personally or will you put the shoe in the vicinity of a sleeping household member's nose to see if it wakes them up?

Excellent club ride today. One of the riders is Dutch and he gave each of us a special cycling treat to eat at the rest stop:

I personally would prefer a stropwaffel, but this was pretty good. A little dry. Supposedly it's very popular in Holland with cyclists and runners and speed skaters.

Oh, and the banned one did show up at the ride. I told him he could ride with us but he had to stay on the back. He complied.

In my line of work and training, I have seen/touched/smelled things that you could not even imagine. I don't mind sniffing a pair of shoes.

Would it? I bought a saddle there but that's all. Of course I don't buy much other than consumables.
