Probably not. I wear a 43.5 and it's a non issue. As before, I unclip with pedal at top (or bottom) of crank cycle.

I resisted joining the 21st century for a long time, but I eventually gave in.
I had to think about this for a minute---outwards. Just seemed more natural (and no, I never read the instructions that came with my pedals---they seemed pretty intuitive). I'll have to see if my size 48s can clear the rear wheel. I have the yellow Shimano clips, with some amount of float, right now.

You have strong feelings about how other people unclip?
A mild curiosity to determine if there were a better/safer/faster way to do might be reasonable but I don't understand why anyone would have strong feelings about the way others do it.

There was a discussion about rapidly getting the foot on the road.
So, moving the foot outward, it would seem like it would be part of a single fluid movement to get the foot to the ground.
Likewise, with the straps, down and back, again towards the road.
Moving the foot inward would seem to require two movements.... slower?
So, it may be important if it makes a difference in how fast one can unclip. However, perhaps one gets more control with the inward movement... less likely to kick ones' neighbor.
So, if there is a performance difference, then the unclipping may be important (for newbies). Otherwise, you're right, it doesn't make any difference how others do it... curiosity??

I unclip by twisting my heel outward, like most normal people do. We'll try not to hold your odd behaviors against you.
I almost always clip out on the left foot if coming to a brief stop and keep the right foot clipped in. My right is the dominate foot.

This is the only sensible way to do it. That way if you ever do have a "clipless moment" you fall away from traffic. Also, then your dominant leg is still connected to get you moving.

If I'm gonna wait by the curb, I'll unclip right and put my foot on the curb.
If I'm away from the curb I'll sometimes unclip left, sometimes right.
