I remember that. These days it's Red Dye 40. (I had my daughter later in life.)

You are either lying or have a bad memory. Possibly both.

I think Penman's Chinese bike build thread has finally starting to implode. Might be time to pull the plug. It had a good run, though.

So mrs datlas is an oil painter and I got drafted to help her put some of her paintings in frames and put up mounting hardware, the metal wire across the back of the frame is cut very nicely with my bicycle cable cutter tool. I was very pleased with the cut quality and lack of fraying.

Trsnrtr 10-16-15 06:49 PM

I have an antique cable cutter that a mechanic gave me over 30 years ago. He had got a new one because the one he gave me had finally dulled and also gotten a bit loose. I've used the thing for years as a spoke cutter and miscellaneous wire cutter. It's one of my favorite tools and I've yet to hurt myself with it.

Here it is to the right of a brand new Park cutter that I bought recently after losing a Shimano one which I found a day after I bought the Park.

Speaking of the dark ages, doing a bottom bracket overhaul on an Ashtabula crank.

We use Jagwire cutters at the shop. I have the Park cutters at home. I like the Jagwire cutters better than the Parks. They're lighter and less bulky. The also have an awl in the handle.

LesterOfPuppets 10-16-15 08:12 PM

Shimano TL-CT10 for me. I like 'em better than Park and Pedro's. Never tried the Jagwires, tho.

Something like that. The best part was when, as I pulled the drive side away from the frame, nine ball bearings fell onto the floor. The retainer had disintegrated.

And I don't think we have a set of those bearings in the shop.

You don't have tubs full of bearings there? All ya need is a couple more than 9 balls to pack 'em in loose - caged bearings are for the weak of spirit. 5/16" bearings, usually.

OMG, Home Depot is sold out. Hope there's not a shortage! ;)

Very nice product pic, though!
